For many housewives, carpet cleaning is a real problem, especially if there are a lot of stubborn and old stains on the product. Most often, for cleaning, they use specially designed industrial or improvised carpet cleaning products in order to simplify this difficult task. Some of the most inexpensive but effective cleaning products are regular baking soda and vinegar.

Almost all housewives doubt their effectiveness, preferring to use various products for professional cleaning of carpets. And in vain. Soda is used to completely remove stains from pile products, to combat odors and to quickly refresh such coatings. These funds have successfully proven their own effectiveness with a large number of positive responses from housewives.

Peculiarities

The carpet lying on the floor of the apartment makes it more beautiful and comfortable. But any beauty requires appropriate care, and care, in turn, must be effective. And when choosing a carpet for your home, you must remember that during the operation you need to preserve its attractiveness.

The performance and cleaning process of carpets are primarily influenced by the structure of the product. The most popular are synthetic and wool (or semi-woolen) models. Unlike synthetic coatings, woolen and semi-woolen coatings are softer, so it is pleasant to walk on them, there is practically no static electricity on them. But now, thanks to advances in science, synthetic carpets have ceased to be inferior to woolen carpets in their antistatic properties, and it is much easier to clean synthetics, because natural materials are more susceptible to dirt.

It should be noted that the cost of synthetic coatings is much less than natural ones.

When choosing a carpet, it is important to know what its basis is. Both the price and the ease of cleaning depend on this. If the product has a foam or polypropylene base, then they are cheaper, they can be cleaned without any problems and the effect of moisture on them does not cause negative consequences. Jute-based products are a little more expensive, but they are easily machine cleaned and are not affected by chemical treatment.

Dirt, as a rule, accumulates on the upper, visible part of the product, which consists of pile. That's why the process of its further purification depends on its density.

Naturally, carpets with more luxurious pile tend to accumulate the most dirt.

The carpet is capable of storing about a kilogram of dirt on itself. 20 to 30 percent of the dirt is removed from carpets with a conventional vacuum cleaner. But they can only clean the topmost layer. So this method of cleaning can be called cosmetic.

Also, washing the coating with a special shampoo, which, due to its composition, forms foam on the surface of the pile, also belongs to the cosmetic method of cleaning. With the help of a soft brush, it is rubbed into the surface of the carpet and clings to dirt. When cleaning these products with shampoos, the moisture of the coating will be minimal, therefore this method is often used in public places (hotels, restaurants), where there is no time for the carpet to dry.

Products that contain alkali, such as vinegar, are good at removing dirt, but if you use them very often, the carpet dyes will fade, and sometimes the color may disappear altogether. Just like when washing multi-colored laundry, you need to be careful and careful when cleaning carpets that have a variety of colors, as it is possible to stain one color in another. Therefore, checking the carpet for color fastness will never be superfluous.

To clean heavily soiled coatings, a wet cleaning method is used, for which a solution of soda and vinegar is used. Wet cleaning allows you to remove dirt from the carpet by 60 percent, and if before that it is previously vacuumed, washed by hand in hard-to-reach places, then in the end you can achieve one hundred percent result.

But at the same time there is one very big disadvantage: if you wash the product often, then its service life will significantly decrease.

The main benefits of soda

Carpets can be successfully cleaned with regular baking soda. This cleaning method has several undeniable advantages:

  • The baking soda does clean well enough. This tool not only removes various types of dirt from the coating, but also refreshes the entire appearance of the product.
  • Soda is not dangerous. It will not harm households and animals that live in the house. If you correctly follow all safety rules, for example, work with gloves, then you can be completely sure that no side effects will appear.
  • After you have treated the carpet with baking soda, be sure to vacuum it. After such a procedure, even a hint of some kind of chemical smell will not remain.
  • Affordable cost. This powder is inexpensive and available to most people in our country.
  • You can buy the product at any grocery store or supermarket. It will not be difficult.

The main disadvantages of using baking soda are:

  • This product cannot be used to clean hand-made silk carpets.
  • Achieving a good result may take some time. To clean the carpets properly, sometimes you have to apply the baking soda several times after a certain period of time.
  • If your product is heavily soiled, then the baking soda may not be able to handle it.Sometimes a qualified dry cleaner is required.

Removing dirt from carpet surfaces generally involves using the dry method. So, to do the cleaning, you need to:

  1. Remove all unnecessary debris from the surface; this can be done with a vacuum cleaner or broom. Keep in mind that the broom must be moistened with water so that the dust does not rise.
  2. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet, free of debris and dust, and leave for about 30 minutes.
  3. Brush lightly over spots and marks.
  4. As soon as the specified amount of time has passed, it is necessary to remove the soda from the surface with a vacuum cleaner. Remove all powder thoroughly, as residues can settle and stick together.

There is also a wet method for cleaning with soda. For this, a solution is being prepared that every housewife can prepare. This requires water (10 liters) and a glass of baking soda. Before starting wet cleaning, you should:

  2. Pour the resulting solution into a spray bottle and spray over the surface. If the carpet is too dirty, you can leave it on for 40 minutes.
  3. After that, you can vacuum the product.

Pay attention to this procedure, as carpets are very whimsical to care for. With significant humidity, they begin to rot, an unpleasant odor appears. In addition, such a carpet becomes the cause of the appearance of fungal diseases.
