Genuine leather is a finicky material in everyday life. Leather goods require care and careful handling. When buying new upholstered furniture from such material, you first need to learn how to take care of it and clean it from dirty spots. Today we are going to talk about how to properly clean light leather sofas.

How to clean?

A special pride of every household person is a white leather sofa. But it can also be leatherette. Light-colored material looks much more colorful than black, but it gets dirty more easily. In addition, many stains are much more difficult to remove from such a coating. For this, the following methods are used.

Purchased funds

If you bought a light leather sofa for the first time, together with it you should purchase something that can actually be used to clean it. You will need these detergents and accessories:

  • detergents for cleaning the skin. They can remove a wide variety of stains. These products are manufactured under the brands Leather Ultra Clean, Flat, HG, Bagi, Astonish and others. The mixture is sprayed for a short time on the soiled surface, and is removed without using water;
  • a special ointment-milk for the leather of the sofa, which will saturate the upholstery and protect it from the adverse effects of the sun and high temperatures, especially during the summer season;
  • a gentle brush with which you can comfortably rub the preparations into the upholstery of the sofa;
  • napkins or soft cloths that remove traces of cleaning agents. They also carefully apply the cream;
  • a spray bottle into which you can pour the detergent.Many substances can be bought in jars with a special attachment.

It is wiser to do the initial cleaning of a light sofa instantly, as soon as the furniture is brought home. Squeeze some cleaner onto the brush and gently smear it over the upholstery surface. You do not need to rub it hard - the product will certainly work without too much rubbing, and the brush can damage the base of the sofa. You need to wait a while, approved by the manufacturer (mostly 20-50 seconds), and then remove the traces of the detergent composition with a napkin. Divide the sofa into squares visually, as it is not recommended to process the entire structure at once. You will need to continue cleaning until the entire sofa is cleaned.

After 4-7 minutes, when the furniture dries a little, it must be smeared special ointment. Squeeze some sponge onto the sponge and smear the upholstery on the sofa. The ointment is soaked in about 5-9 minutes, leaving a protective coating. After this time, it will already be possible to sit on the sofa. In the future, this composition will stop contamination of the furniture surface and it will be much easier for you to remove particles of food, juice, tea, greasy stains, paste, as well as dust and dirt from natural leather or leatherette.

In the future, the sofa should be treated as it gets dirty. Typically, cleaning is done about once every two months. In the presence of all the specified detergents, the process takes 7-9 minutes.

Folk remedies

Antique preparations for cleaning leather furniture are more economical than highly professional ones. But we must not forget that using them will turn out to be a more complicated process, and in some cases - not very successful:

  • milk. Cow's milk can wipe off the dirt that appears, but first you need to heat it up a little. Then a piece of cotton wool soaked in it wipes the contaminated place, and finally wipes it off with a dry cloth;
  • vinegar. The composition of the vinegar will be able to cope with stains on a light sofa. However, it must be used carefully, slightly wetting a piece of cotton wool in the composition. First, you should try the solution on an inconspicuous area of the product;
  • dish gel. This product can be used to clean a light-colored leatherette or eco-leather sofa. The dirt is wiped off with a sponge or a delicate fleece / microfiber cloth soaked in the detergent gel. Traces are removed with a wet cloth;
  • ammonia. To cope with the traces that appear on light furniture, ammonia can also be used. However, they need to be used with care, since with such a treatment, the skin can dry out and crack. This remedy is only used for white or milky skin. When cleaning a colored sofa, ammonia can damage the surface.

How to remove dirt from light-colored models?

A mixture of homemade soap or detergent will help in cleaning a light sofa from dirt. It is used for simple stains. For this:

  • Stir regular soap or dish detergent in warm water;
  • in order to consolidate the result, add ammonia;
  • thus, prepare a concentrate of 0.5 tbsp of warm water, 1 tbsp of ammonia and 10 g of soap;
  • moisten any sponge or fluffy rag and gently wipe with the resulting solution over the surface of the product;
  • work without pressure, because any skin is hard to withstand friction;
  • wipe the rest of the composition with a clean and dry cloth;
  • then wipe the sofa material with a soft cloth that will absorb any remaining moisture.

With this tool at home, you can also clean the eco-leather.

Fighting stains

After washing, the sofa acquires a unique gloss and shine, as if it were just bought in a store, so you need to constantly monitor the cleanliness of the furniture. If dirt appears on the surface of the product, then get rid of it sooner.

Blood stains

Different cleaning methods work for different types of stains. For example, you should not wipe the surface of furniture from drops of blood with warm or hot water, because this technology will give the upholstery a scarlet tone.It will be almost impossible to wash it after that, so you need to know some of the nuances so as not to increase the size of the stain and prevent it from spreading. You need to do the following:

  • fresh traces of blood, very easy to wash off with cool water;
  • sprinkle the trace of fat with starch, and then wipe it dry with a clean cloth;
  • if you accidentally hooked on light skin with a pen, marker, felt-tip pen or paint, then wash it off by putting a tape of adhesive tape on the damaged area and slowly remove it. Finally, you need to wipe the furniture;
  • stains from food or drinks can be easily removed with soapy water or a weak vinegar diluted in heated water. After removing any dirt from the upholstery, wipe it thoroughly with a damp cloth.

Stains from brilliant green

Also, many users are faced with the problem of green stains. This substance, if used inattentively, often drips onto the surface of any product. When treating various wounds, there is often no time to make sure that this liquid does not end up on clothes or furniture. Even a small drop of greenery on your light sofa will be noticeable. If it just happened, then you can remove it with ammonia, peroxide or baking soda. But what if the stains from brilliant green are already old?

Dealing with such pollution is more difficult, but it is still possible to remedy the situation. In this case, it will help salicylic alcohol. Treat it with the very surface of the skin, and then wipe it. If this method does not work, then it is advisable to use regular soap. It is necessary to rub the surface with it for a long time and well. Likewise, light from the sun can help you. Prolonged exposure of the contaminated area to sunlight will help remove it.

When cleaning furniture from stains, you need to carefully consider the elements of furniture made of wood and plastic. It is possible to completely remove brilliant green only from the varnish surface. In other cases, sanding should be used.

Citric acid, baking soda, and vinegar can help remove dirt from wood. Those products that contain chlorine will be able to clean plastic elements. Remember that this substance can discolor the colored surface.

If the color of the sofa was white to the stains, then White Spirit will help. This solution must be used very carefully. You can also get rid of brilliant green by the following methods:

  • a mixture of washing powder. You can try cleaning the stain with special products that can be found in every home, for example, washing powder. To do this, you need to take a not very large container and sprinkle powder into it. Then add enough water to get a dense mixture of creamy texture. The resulting product is evenly applied to the surface of the material. Wait 20-30 minutes for the upholstery to dry. After that, the powder painted with brilliant green is removed with a brush, and the remaining particles are completely erased with a wet cloth;
  • lemon juice. Lemon juice can be used to remove brilliant green from furniture. For this purpose, a lemon is bought, which is peeled and then crushed with a juicer. If suddenly it is not on the farm, in this case, the juice is squeezed out with a spoon (along with this, taking away the seeds). The resulting composition is passed through cheesecloth folded in two. In the resulting juice, moisten a cotton swab. With gentle circular movements, apply an acidic composition to the green stain, then you need to wait a little (at least 50 minutes) until the dirt becomes lighter. Dip the cheesecloth in soapy water and completely remove the lemon particles from the leather surface.

This action must be repeated a couple of times until the trail disappears completely. You need to be careful with sour juice, as it can ruin the product:

  • baking soda... Baking soda can wash off the brilliant green. It will definitely be found in everyone in the kitchen. Sprinkle it on the trail and wipe it down well. Soda will absorb all unpleasant odors and dirt itself. This will help clean the surface of the furniture.

Useful Tips

Due to the high cost of natural leather, it is required to take care of it regularly, as well as to handle it carefully and carefully. When eating, do not sit on the leather sofa, so as not to get it dirty. You also need to forbid all your pets to run on such light-colored furniture so that scratches and holes do not appear on it.

It is not recommended to moisturize the leather too much during cleaning - this leads to the appearance of fungus in areas where it is difficult to dry the upholstery.
