The bathroom needs regular maintenance, as high air temperature and humidity contribute to the constant formation of various types of pollution. The ability to quickly and efficiently clean up the bathroom will greatly facilitate the cleaning process. It is important to know some tricks that will help not only cope with existing dirt, but also keep the room clean for a long time. We effectively clean the bathroom to a shine without any difficulties and high costs.

What kind of pollution are there?

The bathroom needs constant cleanliness. When cleaning, the easiest way to deal with common dirt, which is most often caused by soap deposits and dead skin. To remove such dirt, it is enough to wash it off with water immediately after it appears. Ingested dirt is more difficult to remove, and can also harm not only various surfaces and plumbing, but also human health.

One of the most unpleasant and dangerous types of contamination is mold.

Most often, mold appears on the seams of tiles or on surfaces that have been treated with a sealant. The fungus significantly spoils the appearance of the room, and can also adversely affect the health of the household. Mold waste products that enter the human body by airborne droplets are toxic. Such pollution can provoke the following diseases:

  • allergic reactions;
  • asthma;
  • candidiasis.

Various factors can cause the appearance of fungus in the bathroom. Basically, the appearance of mold is affected by:

  • High humidity in the room. After washing or taking water procedures, condensation forms on various surfaces (ceiling, walls, tile joints, cast iron pipes), which significantly affects the level of humidity. Often in the bathroom there are problems with plumbing. Leaking taps also increase humidity.
  • Poor or no ventilation. If the ventilation duct is clogged or the holes are not large enough, air circulation is impaired and moist air does not escape from the room. A permanently closed bathroom door also prevents good ventilation.
  • Lack of natural light... Only a few owners of private houses can boast of a window in the bathroom. Most often, the bathroom is not accessible to the penetration of sunlight. Ultraviolet radiation prevents the emergence and spread of the fungus, as it has a detrimental effect on it. The lack of sunlight creates favorable conditions for mold growth.

One of the most common types of bath stains is yellowness. The reason for the appearance of a yellow plaque on plumbing is various chemical impurities that are contained in water. The water entering our house through worn out communication systems is filled with rust particles and various salts. These substances provoke the formation of yellow plaque on the surface of the plumbing.

Yellow streaks appear mainly near the drain hole or in places of even a small but constant accumulation of water (an example would be a soap dish). It is recommended to regularly clean the enamel from the appeared yellowness. Removing old yellow plaque from plumbing is much more difficult.

Poor quality water causes another type of pollution in the bathroom. Magnesium and calcium salts, which are found in large quantities in water, settle on surfaces, leading to the formation of limescale. Removing limestone is much more difficult than removing yellow stains. Worst of all are the surfaces of sinks, bathtubs and toilet bowls. Regular hygienic maintenance of your plumbing will help prevent limescale build-up.

If the bathroom is not promptly cleaned of yellowness and limescale, this can lead to the formation of rust. Rusty deposits can appear in the sink, bathroom, on the surface of the toilet, on metal taps and pipes. So that you do not have to puzzle over how to clean rust in the bathroom from one surface or another, it is worth adhering to a few simple rules:

  • do not leave metal objects in the bathroom or sink;
  • it is necessary to timely eliminate the leakage of the toilet bowl, mixers and pipes;
  • be sure to constantly keep the bathroom clean;
  • in case of rusty streaks, it is recommended to immediately get rid of the contamination.

Contamination on the surface of plumbing is formed not only from water. A common problem is the accumulation of urinary calculi on the toilet bowl. Urinary stones are formed due to irregular maintenance and misuse of plumbing.

Timely cleaning of the toilet surface will help prevent the formation of plaque, and you also do not need to forget about the regular pressing of the drain button.

How to wash?

Before you start cleaning the bathroom, you need to decide what means you will remove this or that pollution. The choice will depend entirely on the type of dirt and the type of surface to be cleaned.

The best way to clean the chrome faucet is to use special gels for chrome surfaces. If necessary, use dishwashing detergent, lemon juice, salt, baking soda and vinegar on the mixer.

Lime deposits on chrome-plated surfaces can be removed with vinegar. To do this, simply wipe the mixer with a soft cloth soaked in essence. Soda will help to cope with old plaque. To do this, rub the tap with a toothbrush. To avoid the formation of plaque on the product, it is enough to wipe the chrome-plated surface once a day with a dry cloth.

Lime deposits on the mixer will help remove the Coca-Cola. Cola contains acids that help to cope even with old calcareous formations. Cola can be used to clean not only the faucet, but also the bathtub, sink and toilet bowl, just wipe the dirty surface with a sponge dipped in this drink. There are additional benefits to using Coca-Cola as a cleaning agent:

  • when applying liquid to a contaminated surface, it is not necessary to wear gloves;
  • cola does not have a pungent unpleasant odor that must be removed from the room;
  • such a tool will not harm the enamel, therefore it is suitable for cleaning new plumbing.

Cast iron baths can be cleaned with citric acid. To do this, you need to take hot water into the bath and pour 200 grams of citric acid into it. Leave the bath with the resulting solution overnight. Use citric acid on other surfaces with great care.

Rust in the bathroom and toilet can be removed with hydrogen peroxide. To do this, you need to prepare a solution of 150 ml of ammonia and 50 ml of peroxide, apply to the contaminated surface and stand for twenty minutes. Also, peroxide does a great job with mold. To remove the fungus, you need to treat the affected areas with undiluted peroxide several times.

"White" is an excellent disinfectant. "Whiteness" can be used to treat tile joints against mold. First, it is recommended to remove the mold mechanically by cleaning it out from the seams. Then, using a brush, "Whiteness" is applied to the treated areas.

It is not necessary to wash off the agent from the seams - the "Whiteness" should be completely absorbed.

How do I clean different types of bathroom surfaces?

Cleaning the bathroom must be approached responsibly. An incorrectly selected cleaning agent can damage the enamel of the bathtub, the chrome finish of the faucet or various mirror surfaces. It will not be difficult to wash the bathroom whitewashed; you just need to take into account the peculiarities of cleaning various types of surfaces.

In addition to the basic plumbing items, as well as the floor and ceiling, additional items that are in the bathroom need cleaning. In addition to following the rules for cleaning different types of surfaces, it is important to consider in what order you need to clean the room:

  • ceiling and lighting fixtures;
  • walls;
  • glass surfaces and mirrors;
  • shelves, cabinets and other furniture;
  • plumbing items;
  • floor.

To remove dirt and accumulated dust from lighting fixtures, it is enough to wipe the surface of the products with a damp cloth. It will not be enough to simply wipe a very dirty inner and outer surface of the shades with a napkin. If possible, the shades should be removed and rinsed in water with the addition of liquid soap or dishwashing detergent. Then the product should be rinsed under running warm water, wiped with a dry clean cloth and left for some time on a clean, flat surface until completely dry.

Mirrors and glass surfaces must be washed with extreme care. In addition to the fact that such material is sensitive to mechanical damage, after cleaning, streaks often remain on it. To wash the mirror without streaks, you should follow the following algorithm:

  • First of all, it is necessary to remove dirt, soap stains and limescale. To do this, you can use both special cleaning agents and dishwashing gel dissolved in water.Clean the surface with a soft cloth or a soft sponge.
  • Remove the rest of the cleaning agent with a damp, clean sponge.
  • Spray window cleaner onto the mirror surface. We rub the mirror with a microfiber cloth or newspaper until it shines. If you do not have tools for windows or mirrors, you can make an analogue of it yourself at home. To do this, one tablespoon of ammonia must be mixed with one glass of water. You can add a tablespoon of vodka or rubbing alcohol to the resulting solution.

Bathroom glass shelves can be cleaned in the same way as mirrors. To get rid of stains on the cabinet, cupboards or other furniture, just wipe the surface with a damp cloth and dishwashing detergent.

A special type of surface includes tile seams and silicone sealant, which is often used when installing plumbing in the bathroom. Such places are most susceptible to mold growth. Any bathroom cleaner diluted with warm water will help get rid of mold on the sealant. A sponge moistened with a solution is applied to the affected areas. After surface treatment, residues of mortar and mold must be washed off.

To prevent the re-formation of fungus, the processing sites must be disinfected. Bleach can be used as a disinfectant. Bleach should be applied to the sealant and left to stand for 15 minutes, then thoroughly scrubbed with a brush. Rinse off any remaining bleach and then rub the silicone dry.

If mold reappears after careful treatment of the silicone sealant, you will have to resort to drastic measures to eliminate the fungus. The reason for the reappearance in this case lies in the center of the spread of mold, which is located under the sealant. In this case, using a knife, it is necessary to remove the old layer of silicone sealant.

After removing the silicone, the seam must be thoroughly cleaned and treated with a disinfectant.

Isopropyl alcohol can be used for disinfection. Alcohol must be poured into the seam and left for half an hour. After that, the seam must be wiped with a dry cloth and left to dry completely for a day. A fresh coat of sealant is applied to the treated surface.

Various surfaces in the bathroom sometimes have to be cleaned not only from dirt, lime, rust and mold, but also from various coloring compounds. You can wipe brilliant green from almost any surface with ordinary alcohol. Hydrogen peroxide will help wash away potassium permanganate stains... Peroxide must be mixed with citric acid in a one-to-one ratio. The solution is applied to the contaminated areas for 5 minutes, after which it is washed off with water.

There is also a more effective and faster way to remove traces of potassium permanganate. You will also need hydrogen peroxide here. The second cleaning component will be vinegar essence. In this case, it is not required to prepare a solution. First, the contaminated areas are wiped with peroxide, and then with vinegar until the spots disappear completely.

Wall and ceiling surfaces

Tile is one of the most popular materials used in bathroom furnishings. Without proper care, tiles eventually become covered with limescale, and mold appears in the seams. Therefore, the tile needs regular maintenance.

You can find a suitable cleaning agent at any household chemical store. It is highly discouraged to use powders for washing tiles., as after them scratches may remain on the surface of the tile. It is allowed to use chlorine-containing products. Chlorine is good for dealing with limescale and rust. A detergent for washing glasses and mirrors, which contains ammonia, is also suitable.

You don't have to buy special detergents to clean your ceramic tiles.For regular maintenance, regular soapy water is suitable, provided that the tiles are free of lime and rust.

To remove stubborn dirt, you can use 6% vinegar. Spray vinegar on the tiles and leave for a while. Then the contaminated areas must be rubbed with a brush. After surface treatment, the remaining vinegar from the wall is removed with a damp cloth. Wipe clean tiles with a microfiber cloth.

Liquid ammonia will help to restore the shine to the tile. In two liters of water, it is necessary to dilute a tablespoon of ammonia. The solution is sprayed onto the walls and left for 5 minutes. Then the tiles must be wiped with a damp cloth. After the remnants of the ammonia solution are removed, the wall must be wiped dry.

A tile floor, in addition to regular cleaning, requires constant disinfection, since it is more susceptible to contamination and the rapid spread of bacteria than walls and ceilings. The necessary products for washing and disinfection can be prepared by hand. This will require:

  • four tablespoons of salt;
  • four tablespoons of baking soda;
  • 100 ml of alcohol;
  • 4 liters of water.

PVC panels are often used to decorate the walls and ceiling in the bathroom. Plastic panels are much cheaper than other finishing materials. In addition, plastic is resistant to moisture and is not afraid of water.

Do not use metal sponges or hard brushes to clean the plastic panels (they can scratch the surface). The temperature of the water used during cleaning should not exceed 40 degrees... Cleaning agents should be liquid or gel-like (do not use powders).

In addition to special store-bought cleaning products, you can use solutions you make yourself. The easiest option is based on laundry soap or dishwashing gel. You can also wipe down the plastic panels with vinegar or vodka.

If yellowness appears on the PVC panels, chlorine bleach will help to cope with it. Dilute three tablespoons of bleach in 10 liters of water. Remove yellowness with a soft brush dipped in solution.

Use a special mop to clean the plastic panels on the ceiling. The surface can be treated with soapy water or alcohol-containing products (so there will be no streaks on the ceiling).

Bath

For bathing newborn babies, a separate bathtub is required, which cannot be used for any other purpose. Baby's skin is very delicate and sensitive to various irritants. The baby bath must be regularly cleaned of various kinds of dirt and disinfected.

It is not recommended to use common chemical detergents and powders, as they can cause an allergic reaction in the child. Modern manufacturers are ready to offer special products designed specifically for children. These cleaners are dye-free, antibacterial and non-allergenic.

A new bathroom must be disinfected before the first bath. To do this, the bath must first be washed with baby soap and then rinsed with boiling water. Soda is most often used for subsequent disinfection. Apply baking soda to a damp sponge and process the bath.

After each such treatment, it is important to carefully remove the remains of soda from the surface of the product.

A whirlpool bath, in addition to regular cleaning, needs periodic disinfection. The peculiarity of Jacuzzi cleaning is that, in addition to the reservoir, it is also necessary to clean the internal parts of the whirlpool system. The bowl of such a product can be made from the following materials:

  • foundry marble;
  • ferrous metals (steel and cast iron);
  • acrylic.

Products made of cast marble and ferrous metals are easy to maintain. There is no need to buy special detergents for surface treatment. The reservoir is cleaned with ordinary soapy water.To remove stubborn dirt, you can use acrylic bath detergents.

An acrylic spa should be cleaned with extreme care. Such material is sensitive to mechanical stress. Metal brushes and other rough materials can damage the enamel. It is not allowed to use various types of solvents for cleaning.

Suitable detergents should have a gel or foam structure. Powdered cleaners can damage acrylic. To care for the acrylic surface, special detergents are produced, so there is no need to clean such a bath using folk methods. To keep the bath clean you can periodically wash the surface with liquid soap.

The process of cleaning and disinfecting a whirlpool tub made of any material is as follows:

  • The reservoir is filled with hot water ten centimeters above the nozzles.
  • A special detergent or dishwashing gel is added to the water.
  • The maximum pressure level is set and the hydromassage system is turned on for fifteen minutes.
  • The water must be drained and the bath rinsed.
  • The cleaning procedure must be repeated, but now with cold water and without the addition of cleaning agents.

Cast iron and steel bathtubs are strong and durable, but the enamel coating of such products needs constant maintenance. In order not to damage the enamelled surface, it is worth giving up aggressive cleaning agents. You can find suitable cleaning products at any household chemical store.

Lemon juice helps to cope with the task of removing dirt from the enamel surface no worse than store-bought products. A cast iron bath is treated with lemon juice, kept for ten minutes and rinsed with water. In the fight against strong pollution (rust or old limescale), expensive store products or a solution of ammonia and peroxide will help.

To clean and bleach old cast iron baths, you must resort to more radical methods and aggressive means. After many years of service, plumbing will wear out:

  • mechanical damage appears;
  • the bath loses its original shine;
  • the surface is covered with limescale and rust.

When treating an old bathtub with cleaning agents, you no longer have to fear that the product will deteriorate. An iron brush and oxalic acid can be used to remove rust. The main layer of rust must be brushed off. Then a mixture (in the form of a paste) of oxalic acid and water is applied to the contaminated areas for half an hour. After processing, the oxalic acid paste must be washed off.

The easiest way to clean an old bathtub is to treat it with any abrasive cleaner. Places of accumulation of strong plaque and rust should be rubbed with an iron brush. Instead of household chemicals, you can use soda.

Plumbing and pipes

Chrome-plated taps are easiest to clean with special products for this type of finish. Instructions for the correct use of the cleaning agent can always be found on the product label. Before buying a cleaning agent, it is worth considering some of the nuances:

  • Products intended for washing sinks, bathtubs, toilets, as well as rust removers and various bleaches must not be used. After treatment with such products, dark spots may form on the chrome plating.
  • Powdery cleaners can damage the chrome surface by causing minor scratches. The choice should be made in favor of gels, as well as liquid and foam products. If the contamination of the chrome surface is negligible, then it can be wiped off with a dishwashing gel.
  • Do not mix different chemical cleaners.

You can add baking soda or citric acid to the original shine of the mixer and tap.To do this, it is necessary to carefully treat the surface with a sponge dipped in a solution of citric acid or sprinkled with soda.

Any material sink in the bathroom can be cleaned with all-purpose sanitary ware cleaners. Water stains can be wiped off with rubbing alcohol or vinegar. Dirt on the surface of an artificial stone sink can be removed with toothpaste or gruel from soda and water.

In order to clean the toilet of urinary calculus and limescale, you can purchase ready-made products designed for this purpose. Toilet bowl cleaners differ in composition:

  • acidic;
  • alkaline;
  • based on chlorine.

Acids of high concentration will help to cope with old heavy contamination:

  • The electrolyte used for batteries. Cannot be used if the sewer pipes are made of plastic.
  • Oxalic acid powder.
  • Iodine monochloride. Removes all types of stone and rust. Cannot be used if the sewer pipes are made of cast iron.
  • Hydrochloric acid. Removes all types of stone.

Over time, rust and limescale appear on the surface of metal pipes. Before the complete removal of rusty formations, the pipe must be mechanically processed. Rust is removed with sandpaper or a wire brush. Then the outer surface of the pipe must be processed in one of the following ways:

  • A solution of vinegar and citric acid in a 1 to 1 ratio should be applied to the areas previously treated with sandpaper and left for a couple of hours. Wash off the solution with soapy water.
  • Two tablespoons of baking soda should be mixed with 1/3 cup of water. Apply the resulting mixture for 15 minutes. Wash off with water and a few drops of vinegar.
  • Special means.

People's Councils

It's not just expensive cleaners that can help fight mold on silicone or other surfaces. Time-tested folk recipes are no less effective in dealing with this type of pollution. It will not be difficult to clean the silicone from fresh mold - just wash off the fungus and treat the surface with an antiseptic. Dealing with old mold will be much more difficult. Let's take a look at some effective methods of fighting fungus in the bathroom:

  • Tea tree oil (one teaspoon) should be diluted in a glass of room temperature water. Treat the problem area with a solution of essential oil. It is not necessary to rinse off the applied solution after surface treatment. Tea tree oil is antiseptic, which will help prevent mold reoccurrence.
  • In two and a half liters of water, one glass of borax must be diluted. Using a toothbrush soaked in a solution, areas affected by mold are wiped. After processing, there is no need to rinse the solution off the surface. This impregnation forms a protective layer against fungus.
  • Half a teaspoon of baking soda needs to be diluted with 500 ml of warm water. The solution is rubbed into the moldy area using a brush. If necessary, processing must be carried out several times. After removing the fungus, the solution must be washed off.
  • Moldy surfaces can be treated with ordinary, undiluted vinegar. After one hour, the vinegar must be removed with a damp sponge.

There is a universal cleaner for almost all types of bathroom surfaces. This tool can be used to treat faucets, ceramic tiles and sanitary ware. You can prepare such a solution and clean the contaminated surface with it as follows:

  • Vinegar (one glass) must be heated on the stove. You do not need to bring the vinegar to a boil. The temperature of the liquid should be such that you can dip your finger into it and not get burned.
  • Using a funnel, pour heated vinegar and a glass of dishwashing liquid into the spray bottle. The dishwashing detergent can be replaced with liquid soap.
  • The resulting mixture must be shaken well.
  • The solution must be sprayed onto the surface to be cleaned. Next, you need to evenly distribute the cleaning agent over the surface with a sponge and leave for half an hour.
  • The solution must be completely washed off.

The anti-slip bath coating requires special care and careful cleaning. The wrong choice of acrylic bath cleaner can ruin the enamel surface.

Limescale can be removed using handy tools such as vinegar or lemon juice. The area covered with lime must be treated with the chosen agent and wait twenty minutes. Then the vinegar or lemon juice must be washed off with warm water.

An old cast-iron bathtub with a coating and rust can be cleaned with ammonia. First, the surface of the bathtub must be treated with hot water. To do this, it is enough to take boiling water into it and leave it for 15 minutes, after which the water must be drained. Then the bath is treated with ammonia. The ammonia needs to be given some time to absorb.

After half an hour, soda is applied to the surface (you can replace it with washing powder). A hard sponge or iron brush should be intensively rubbed over the contaminated areas. After cleaning, the soda and dirt must be washed off with water.
