Who do you represent first of all when you hear the expression “pet”? Surely a dog, a cat, a hamster or a parrot comes to mind. However, the variety of animals that people sometimes give birth to at home is amazing: here you can find raccoons, monitor lizards, chinchillas, and tarantula spiders. Lovers of terrarium dwellers have long appreciated the large and very cute Achatina snail. What is the difference between a domestic pet and a wild relative? That's right - he has a name. How to choose the right nickname for the Achatina snail - read in our article.

Choosing nicknames by character or appearance

Let's first imagine the Achatina snail. This is a gastropod mollusk that lives on land and has an elongated spiral shell, which can reach 25 cm in length. The snail's body grows up to 30 cm. The color of the mollusk combines all shades of brown.

And now we invite you to "play" in the association. Which of them pops up in your imagination when you mention a snail?

Most likely, these are:

  • slow;
  • phlegmatic;
  • good-natured;
  • slippery;
  • creeps;
  • with horns;
  • "In the house";
  • shell, shell, shell;
  • shellfish;
  • slug.

Based on this associative range, we present you the following list of names for snails:

  • Sloley, Spocky, Quiet (Tisha), Lenya (from the word "laziness", not the name Leonid), Crawler, Brake, Slinky (to slink - "to crawl"), Crowley (to crawl - "to crawl") - if we we want to mention the slowness of the pet in the nickname;
  • Sonya (Sonya), Kalmi (from the English calm "calm"), Sweet, Milashka (Mila) - these names speak of the calm and kind character of Achatina;
  • Snail (snail), Slime (slime), Creeper (creeper), Clamy (clam), Shell (shell) - similar nicknames emphasize that the pet belongs to gastropods;
  • Lord, Lady, Knight, King, Quinnie - your Achatina has a personal "castle", so why not give her a title;
  • Horney (horny - "horned"), Curly (curl - "curl"), Scrolls (to scroll - "decorate with curls") - names that describe the appearance;
  • Burka, Burenka, Chocolate (Choco, Choco), Caramel, Brownie (brown), Whiskey, Toffee - all this speaks of the color of the pet.

What can you call a boy?

Generally speaking, snails can be considered boys or girls only conditionally - they are hermaphrodites. Therefore, the owner himself has the right to "endow" his Achatina with one sex or another and give it an appropriate name. Most often, they propose to focus on such data: if the snail is dark, large, with a brightly colored shell, then this is a boy, and if delicate shades of brown prevail in its colors, and she herself is small, then this is a girl. Here are some funny nicknames for boy snails, we suggest you consider as an option:

When choosing a name for any pet, not just a snail, it is recommended to be guided by personal preferences and associations that arise when looking at a particular animal. In addition, the nickname should be easy to pronounce and be sonorous so that the pet can remember it and respond with ease. If you have chosen a complex version of the name, if possible, come up with an abbreviated form for it.

This will greatly facilitate communication between you and your pet.

And nothing that snails are hermaphrodites?)

Most of the snails living on the planet are hermaphrodites. But this does not mean that they do not need a partner to reproduce. All individuals of this species have both female and male genital organs at the same time. When a pair is formed, each individual begins to play its role. Most often, large specimens depict females, smaller snails - males. But in any case, both partners have unfertilized eggs inside the body when they are ready to mate.

And I named my snail Cherry.
