It is difficult to imagine a modern bathroom without a mirror. It is a necessary accessory for all family members. Many of us are familiar with the unpleasant situation when, after taking a bath or shower, we urgently need to tidy ourselves up before an important meeting or so as not to be late for work, but in a foggy mirror with water drips, the reflection is practically not visible. It is simply impossible to comfortably perform hygienic and cosmetic procedures with such a mirror.

Causes of fogging

A bit of physics. Warm air in the bathroom, saturated with water vapor, comes into contact with a colder mirror surface and is partially cooled. When the dew point temperature is reached, condensation forms, and water droplets settle on the mirror, flowing down the glass in drips.

To see a clear reflection in the mirror, you will have to wait a while or take urgent measures - wipe it dry with a napkin, dry the surface with a hairdryer, and arrange strong through ventilation. But many ways have long been known how to prevent misting of mirror surfaces using special means. There are also folk remedies for glass fogging.

How to prevent?

The solutions to this long-standing problem are different in nature and degree of effectiveness, but are quite suitable for domestic use. All options are economical and do not require significant spending. Let's take a look at some of them.

  • Glycerol. Absolutely harmless, inexpensive odorless product that is sold without restrictions in pharmacies. If you rub the mirror with a microfiber cloth moistened with glycerin, then a film forms on the glass, which does not allow moisture drops to linger on its surface.
  • Car window defogger. It is a technical liquid intended for the maintenance of car windows and mirrors, and may well be used for the treatment of mirror surfaces in bathrooms. This method of processing must be carried out every week (according to the instructions attached to the tool).
  • Any kind of shampoo... On a dry, clean mirror, you need to apply a little shampoo and rub it evenly with a soft cloth so that no streaks remain. You should not take a lot of shampoo so that the rubbing does not take too long, as the excess product will "smear" on the mirror surface. Instead of shampoo, you can take shaving cream or foam and follow the same procedure. The mirror will not sweat for 2-3 weeks.
  • Vinegar solution. Dissolve 5 tablespoons of 9% vinegar (not essence!) In 0.5 liters of hot water, apply with a napkin on the mirror, but do not wipe dry, but leave to dry. The foul vinegar smell will disappear in an hour. You can slightly change the composition of the solution: mix equal parts vinegar and hot water and add a little lemon juice to the mixture. This solution will not smell unpleasant. The effect will last 2 weeks.
  • Dissolve 2 teaspoons of dry gelatin in 100 ml of water, wait a little until it swells. Wipe the mirror with the resulting mixture. The thin film will prevent condensation from accumulating on the glass.
  • Glass cleaner and soap... First, you need to treat the mirror with a glass cleaner, and then apply the strips to the surface with an ordinary piece of laundry soap and gently rub them over the surface until a thin invisible film. The effect will last for about a week.

These simple methods are based on obtaining a protective film on the mirror surface, which prevents water droplets from settling on the glass and preserves the functionality of the mirror well.

Technical methods

It should be noted that the above methods have a temporary effect. To prevent the mirror from sweating, you can solve this problem in another way.

  • If you mount a heated mirror, then moisture will not condense on a warm surface, since the "dew point" will never come... A special heating device is mounted on the back of the mirror and connected to the household power supply. In modern models, heating is combined with lighting, which is very convenient for men when shaving, for women when applying makeup. The location of the outlet must be thought out in advance.
  • Purchase an inexpensive local fan if the funds are not enough. It can be turned on to blow on the mirror. This will also have a good effect, because the power consumption of the device is minimal.
  • Improve the ventilation system in the bathroom... To do this, a special exhaust electric fan is mounted in the ventilation opening, which, if necessary, turns on and forcibly creates enhanced air flows that carry away water vapor from the room along with unpleasant odors.
  • Install a shower cabin, then water vapor will not fill the bathroom, but will remain inside the cabin. A shower cabin will not only allow you to get a never-fogging mirror, but will also solve the problem of splashing water, and will make the entire bathroom more comfortable. However, not everyone will agree to give up taking baths and use only a shower, here everyone will do according to their preferences.

Of course, these are costly and time-consuming measures compared to simple methods, but the problem will be radically solved. In any case, the choice is yours.
