Wood is a natural material, color, texture, the warmth of which will always be in vogue. And if you find it difficult to make a decision regarding the decoration of the space, turn to it, a compromise and democratic tree. This option will make even the bathroom stylish and cozy at the same time.

Primary requirements

The choice of materials is the main requirement for future design. The finishing of the bathroom should not take off with such indicators as a high level of moisture resistance, coefficient of deformation, resistance to fungal attack.

When all the basic parameters are taken into account, think about the design. Bathroom and wood are quite an original combination, but if you overdo it a little, it will be pretentious.

If your apartment is made in a radically different style, then warm wood may seem alien in the bathroom design.

Why wood is a great choice.

  • From the point of view of environmental friendliness, this material is simply ideal; in humid rooms this criterion is especially important. Since walls and other surfaces there are subject to fluctuations in humidity and temperature, environmental friendliness becomes an important requirement. Wood in such conditions will not emit toxic substances, which cannot be said about many other finishing materials.
  • Exterior - cosiness and warmth are the unshakable companions of wood finishing. Finally, tiles and tiles could get bored, therefore such a change of decor is also a comfortable solution for those who want serious visual changes.

Suitable breeds

Ash, oak and elm can be considered the most optimal species for bathroom finishing.But if you think that moisture resistance needs to be improved, turn to bamboo, cork, merbau, cedar, larch, beech.

Another rather popular option is installation of lining in the bathroom. This is the material that allows you to visually adjust the footage and perception of the room. If you decide to arrange the panels vertically, there will be a feeling of a higher ceiling, if horizontally, the walls will visually "expand".

Do not be afraid of the tree. Today the tree is covered with special impregnations. They reliably protect wood from rotting and excess water. And even regular steam does not deform the wood.

How to use it in the interior?

Parquet or board is usually used as a floor covering. The best option is to use three-layer parquet board... Multilevel processing of the material makes it durable. And it is not difficult to mount such a board.

Wall finishing options:

  • wooden lining;
  • veneered boards;
  • array (or solid boards);
  • glued boards.

If the main selection criterion for you is ease of installation (for example, you have to do the repair yourself), then you won't find a better lining. It is easy to mount it, although you will have to use a frame, which somewhat reduces the footage of the bathroom.

Excellent resistance to moisture and glued board: several layers of wood glued together give the material special strength. But if you're looking for the greenest possible option, then this is of course an array.

True, the price of such a repair will be very high, and installation is unlikely to be done without the involvement of specialists.

Many are accustomed to the fact that the standard interior solution is a white bathroom, a little less often - a gray one. If you don't want to give up the "classics of the genre", leave your favorite color, diluting it with wood elements. Literally 2 not very large wooden inserts transform the space. Complete it with more decorative elements in the boho style, and you will create a fundamentally new image of the bathroom.

Rules for combining with other materials

The compatibility of the two interior components depends on the specific wood species. Lighting plays a significant role, and if your bathroom has a window, this is also taken into account. If you use rocks with large woody textures, a red or dark design can make the room more expressive.

If the dimensions of the bathroom are small, or you are against such bright solutions, there are many other options.

  • Stone + wood. This combination has been tested for centuries in many combinations, in a wide variety of interiors. It is great if the texture contrasts, for example, a smooth wooden surface and a rough, slightly rough stone. If the stone is polished, use textured wood with an expressive structure.
  • Ceramic tiles + wood. Modern smooth tiles can be friends with natural wood. If the surfaces are the same, this makes the interior heavier, and if they are so different, it acquires dynamics that are beneficial for itself.
  • Glass panels + wood. The bathroom in this combination will look more interesting and spectacular. Glass panels accentuate the beauty of the wood, and the overall interior will look sleeker.

Try to avoid harsh decisions. Concrete, laminate can be considered as such. By the way, if you want to spoil the interior, combine real material and its imitation in it: for example, wood and laminate.

In extremely rare situations, natural inserts will be well combined with wood-like tiles. More often it is overkill and bad taste.

How to protect wood from moisture?

The easiest way - varnishing. Both local and exotic woods can be varnished. Try to get a varnish with pronounced moisture-repellent properties. The film of such varnish will not move away from the surface, will not crack, which will prolong the life of the wood. The optimal period for re-varnishing is considered to be 5-7 years.

Other options.

  • Coated with oil. The oil fills even the smallest gaps, but this efficiency is overshadowed by a whole list of disadvantages. Firstly, the wood will tarnish over time, and secondly, it must be soaked in oil regularly. And the wood will look darker after oil impregnation.
  • Toning. In a sense, this is also protection, only it is usually used to imitate the color of a valuable wood species. It is recommended to repeat tinting once every 2.5 years.

Perhaps your master will suggest other options for you. But the above methods are still the most popular today.

Beautiful examples

  • Option for a private house. It has a bit of Nordic style, a bit of simplicity that is relevant today, a craving for the absence of noticeable embellishment. In such a room it will really be warm, pleasant, comfortable. And the risk of injury is much lower than in a regular bathroom.
  • Ascetic, but not devoid of grace. If for someone this option becomes gloomy, then to another person it will seem ideal. For those who love clarity, poise, lack of decor, it will suit for sure.
  • There is noir in this, and sad moods, and at the same time, the style and accuracy of the transfer coming to the fore. If you are tired of bathrooms that look like operating rooms, take a closer look at these solutions.
  • This bathroom is located in a wooden house, but the idea, in principle, can be taken for arranging a bathroom in an apartment. The combination of shades is very competent. A gray stone and wood bathtub always looks good.
  • Here a decorative wall is trimmed with wood. Perhaps the owners did not make a complete renovation, but only changed part of the space. And this change certainly revived him.
  • One of the classic examples of the introduction of wood as a material in the design of the bathroom. Note that the space is small, but it was very profitable and proportionally accurately designed. By the way, instead of a real window, you can build a fake window.
  • An example of a luxurious bathroom in a private house. This is a real spa at home. Successful geometry, selection of materials, choice of decor. Greenery is very appropriate here.
  • Very nice and relatively simple bathroom, decorated with clapboard. There is nothing superfluous here, the eye rests, the soul rejoices. At least the picture evokes just such associations.
  • And one more option with clapboard, from which it breathes with pleasant freshness. The wood is dyed here, but that might not be a bad idea either.
  • Light, clean, cozy option. White wood, tiles, a competent selection of elements that together form an integral space.
  • A chic white bathtub with concrete and wood is a separate world in the house that inspires rest, relaxation and comfort.

If you couldn't even think about wood in the bathroom, maybe now is the time for it. The interior is also a means of self-expression, and it is also a world that you choose for yourself.
