Plastic doors to the bathroom are a convenient and budget option. In this article we will analyze what types of plastic doors exist, their pros and cons, and how to make the right choice.

All PVC (polyvinyl chloride) doors are classified by opening method and structure.

In accordance with the first criterion, products are divided into swing, folding and sliding. In terms of structure, they are: consisting only of plastic, made of plastic and glass, single-leaf, double-leaf, standard or non-standard sizes, rectangular and arched.

By opening method

Swing doors are the most reliable and common option. The product consists of a door frame and a movable door leaf. Both parts are connected by canopies (hinges). In terms of structure (design), such doors can contain either one or two sashes.

Double (double-leaf) swing doors are appropriate only for installation in a wide doorway. Both canvases and only one of them can be opened. This is a convenient option, popular with owners of large bathrooms or combined toilets.

The disadvantage of this design is the need for additional space to open the door. However, this is the most sealed option with good sound and thermal insulation.

Folding doors have an unusual structure: when opened, they fold like an accordion, thereby saving space... They are also used when mounting a product in a radial (semicircular) doorway. Folding samples look aesthetically pleasing and modern, but have low sound insulation and tightness.

Sliding (sliding) type doors resemble the doors of the Eastern countries: the canvas slides along the wall within the overlay system. The advantages of the product include low cost and ease of installation. The disadvantages are low thermal insulation and sound insulation. Mounting a sliding cassette door involves removing part of the wall. A block is installed in it, where the door leaf will "go".

A similar opening method has compartment doors. Their only difference is the presence of two leaves and two guiding parts.

By structure

The structure of a plastic door depends on the materials used, the number of leaves, the shape and size of the product.

Doors consisting of plastic and glass parts are more often purchased for large bathrooms. Fragments of glass have a matte finish and can contain beautiful patterns or designs.

Models consisting only of plastic are more sealed and less expensive. Installation takes less time.

In most cases, the doorway to the bathroom is small. It can accommodate a single-leaf swing or sliding door. If the area does not allow them to be installed, you can consider folding folding models.

The shape and dimensions of the product completely depend on the shape of the doorway. Standard sizes are the most popular option. They reach 0.6-0.7 m in width and 1.9-2 m in length. It is difficult to find non-standard items in the store - they are made to order.

Most of the PVC door models are rectangular. However, you can also find options for an arched shape. Doors with a rounded top accentuate the interior of the room and make it soft and aesthetic.

Advantages and disadvantages

Plastic bathroom doors have their pros and cons. Let's start with the benefits.

  1. Unlike wooden models, plastic products are not affected by high humidity. They do not dry out and, with good elasticity, do not deform.
  2. PVC doors are quite lightweight. They are easy to transport, install, and open without much effort.
  3. High-quality models can withstand heavy loads and are highly durable.
  4. Models that come with clamps or seals are more airtight.
  5. Plastic doors do not require careful maintenance. It is permissible to use detergents containing harsh chemicals.
  6. Plastic products are fire resistant. They do not immediately ignite, and some of them are self-extinguishing.
  7. A wide range of design solutions for PVC doors allows you to choose the most suitable model.

    The disadvantages include:

    • the possibility of emission of harmful gases during combustion;
    • products do not have good thermal insulation.

    Colors

    Until recently, manufacturers limited themselves to white models. Now designers are offering more and more color variations.

    Pure white plastic doors are a classic option. There are models of similar, but calmer shades:

    • antique white;
    • floral white;
    • snow;
    • smoky white;
    • beige;
    • ivory and others.

    Plastic white doors may have colored inserts.

    Colored doors are both monotonous and copying any material. For example, models that externally imitate wooden products look beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.

    Samples of gentle and pastel colors look gentle and stylish.

    Design

    There are many design solutions in the field of plastic bathroom doors nowadays. The design of a particular model depends on the structure of the door and the way it is opened.

    Models, the design of which includes glass, look interesting and unusual. It can occupy both the entire door leaf and only a part of it. There can be several glasses, most often they are opaque and have either a mirror or matte finish. Glass with relief is especially popular.

    For constructive, minimalist, hi-tech and techno styles models fit with geometric patterns and inserts.

    Doors with patterns and images of birds, flowers or landscapes are particularly cozy: a beautiful image on a plastic or glass sheet will delight every time you take a bath or shower.

    Ideal for rooms in styles modern or neoclassical fit plastic models with stained-glass windows.

    Looks effective and stylish plastic products with metal door handles. Quality handles provide an expensive look for the entire door.

    For interior decorated in classic style, products are suitable with embossed inserts.

    How to choose?

    It is not difficult to choose the right plastic door to the bathroom. You can evaluate which model you need based on a number of criteria.

    Factors on which the choice of a PVC door depends:

    • its type by the way of opening;
    • size and shape;
    • the amount of space that you are willing to devote to the door;
    • product design;
    • strength of fasteners and fittings;
    • the degree of water resistance;
    • design and style of the room;
    • reliability and reputation of the manufacturer.

    The last criterion is the most important. Before you buy a plastic door, make sure of its quality. It must be equipped with ventilation holes and have a gap between the floor and the door leaf.

    Products made of polyvinyl chloride do not deform and are not afraid of moisture. They are able to withstand frequent use.

    Examples in the interior

    The number of plastic door models is now so great that for any design solution in the field of bathroom interior, you can easily find a suitable option. Let's look at a few good examples.

    • Products with the image of herons on glass will perfectly fit into the oriental design.
    • Delicate pastel colors evoke an association with calmness and poise.
    • Plain white plastic doors work well for minimalism.
    • Models in white with light-transmitting glass inserts emphasize the cleanliness and order in the bathroom.

    The rest of the good examples will be presented below.
