Solid carved furniture is able to decorate any interior, but only if you carefully and carefully approach its choice. Otherwise, the space of even the most stylish room will look old-fashioned, congested or even vulgar.

Peculiarities

Carved furniture is furniture made mostly of wood and decorated by carving decorative elements: flowers, plants, curls. Despite the fact that wood of various species is still the main material, carved furnishings can also be created from stone, bone or terracotta.

For novice craftsmen, it is better to practice carving on such soft woods as linden or alder. TO the advantages of carved furniture it is customary to attribute it value, after all, headsets and furnishings made from expensive and environmentally friendly raw materials are most often decorated. Such furniture looks very aesthetically pleasing, emphasizes the status owners and adds "high cost" to any interior.

Compliance with the rules of operation allows you to use carved furniture for many years.

Nevertheless, wood is the material that absorbs both odors and moisture. It can be difficult to care for carved products, plus they cannot be placed in the same room with simple furniture made of chipboard or MDF, because this way the entire interior will be destroyed. Wanting to get an exclusive product, you will have to find a reliable professional, pay a fairly large amount and wait a long time.

Therefore, in order to create a more budgetary interior, experts advise not to order solid structures, but to limit ourselves to carved inserts.

What is carved furniture?

Today, carvings can be used to decorate furniture for almost any room in the house: kitchen, study, bedroom, nursery and dining room. Despite the fact that wooden structures look best with carvings, it is also possible when the base is created from a cheaper material, for example, polyurethane or plastic, after which it is decorated with a carved overlay.

Manufacturing option is also possible a separate panel of MDF or plywood with cut ornaments from geometric shapes or floral elements. This type of decor is usually used to decorate cabinet doors, dressers or pedestals.

Certainly much more appreciated individual handmade furniture: for example, a wall made of an array of dark rocks will not only transform the appearance of a room, but can also be inherited in the future, becoming an antique value.

Simpler options - ready-made samples with thread elements - are sold in many stores.

The classic solution is to create carved facades and curly legs, but if you wish, you can transform a piece of furniture using this technique in other variations, for example, decorate with carving only the armrests of the chair or the hooks of the hanger in the hallway.

For living room decoration a carved coffee table, armchairs and sofas, armrests and legs of which are decorated with the use of curly processing, are well suited.

To the bedroom fits perfectly a bed with a carved headboard, as well as a chest of drawers, sideboards and a dressing table, complemented by appropriate decor.

All cabinet area can be filled with carved furniture. This includes a desk, wardrobes, and chairs.

On the kitchen Carved facades, curly sideboards and openwork shelves look harmonious. Of course, this is where chairs with unusual backs and legs should be placed.

In the children's room carving is useful for decorating a crib, chest of drawers, cabinets and shelves, and in the hall - to create original hangers, shoe racks and dressing tables.

Overview of thread types

Carved decor is applied how to decorate flat surfaces of furniture, and for creating volumetric elements. Therefore, to perform a specific task requires its own kind of technology.

Embossed carving implies the formation of a deep background, over which images with low or high relief are created. This technique is most often used to decorate wardrobes, cupboards and kitchen furniture.

While creating flat thread it is necessary to place the background and the ornament on the same plane. This variety is characterized by such features as an abstract ornament, an openwork overlay, or an oval-shaped outline. Despite the variety of flat-relief carving, its relief should always be low and not exceed the background level.

Slotted, it is also sawn, thread requires the formation of through holes. Thus, the furniture structure acquires lightness and an openwork look. While creating applied thread first, the details are cut out, and then they are already superimposed on the main background.

Volumetric or sculptural carving designed for creating wooden figurines. Contour thread its technique is very similar to engraving. Its essence lies in cutting deep lines on a flat surface of an object.

Geometric thread requires a "deepening" of the pattern into a smooth surface. Bracketed variety implies the creation of semicircular elements, and notched trihedral suitable for the formation of geometric images. Carving can be done manually or using programmable machines.

Basic styles

Antique carved furniture is perfect for decorating a classic interior or a country country house, and not "overloaded" with details, the thread looks good in style modern or ethno... Style Gothic characterized by the use of dark woods, as well as the creation of eye-catching volumetric elements. This style of carving can be seen on chairs with high carved backs, richly decorated sideboards with legs and paneled wardrobes.

The central element of the Gothic interior is often a massive "antique" chest, richly decorated with decor. The main plots of artistic carving are architectural motives, floral elements and geometric patterns.

For furniture in the empire style Legs, which are carved into the shape of animal paws, are characteristic, as well as carved images of mythical characters. The furnishings are mostly made of expensive dark wood, for example, chestnut. The carving is formed quite intricate, but clear and massive.

Thread baroque looks very expensive. Ideally, only exclusive wood species should be used for furniture - beech, Karelian birch, pear, walnut or ash. Sculptural carvings and architectural motifs are common in interiors decorated in the Baroque style.

Style rococo requires more elegant furniture and neat carvings. It is characterized by the use of exquisite floral patterns, as well as the creation of curved legs in a cabriole style.

Furniture in the style of classicism it is distinguished by strict lines and the use of light wood species. The carvings present are becoming more symmetrical, and botanical designs are increasingly used as the subject.

Finally, modern carved furniture in Art Nouveau, Scandi or Ethno styles is made less cumbersome than the classical one. The carved elements are diverse - abstract ornaments, geometric patterns, and floral and plant motifs are possible. The same goes for furniture colors: it can remain close to natural shades, appear white or colored.

Beautiful examples in the interior

If it is planned to arrange carved furniture in the office, but you do not want to overload the space with overall elements, then instead of heavy cabinets you can purchase light shelving. The beautiful natural color of the wood, identical to the shade of the desk and chair, unites all the furniture in the room into a single composition.

The carved elements look very elegant and neat, but at the same time add the necessary zest to the room.

A carved set is also suitable for decorating the kitchen space of a country house. With the help of this technique, in this case, only the facades of the cabinets are decorated, but due to the variety of types of carving, the finished solution looks very unusual. There are slots of various shapes on it, and volumetric figures, and flat details resembling platbands.

Very often carved furniture is used for living room decoration - the main room in a house or apartment. A set, made of solid dark wood and decorated with discreet elements, "Sets the mood" for the whole room. It immediately becomes clear that the owners are rather conservative people with good taste, level-headedness and value comfort.

The thread in this case is used to decorate the sofa, coffee table and other elements of the headset. Dark wood blends perfectly with leather and is the perfect backdrop for colored décor.

If you choose wooden carved furniture thoughtfully, then it will turn out harmoniously combine with seemingly incongruous elements. For example, in the living room there may be a rather laconic and even rough dark wood coffee table with curly legs. It looks very good next to a white minimalist shelving unit, a retro-style armchair with an unusual shape and an ordinary modern sofa adorned with an abundance of multi-colored pillows.

He also does not "argue" with a fireplace with a mosaic finish, a carpet with geometric patterns, and a bright purple floor lamp.In addition, despite the variety of colors and textures in the room, it is a simple wooden table immediately attracts the eye, becoming the center of the composition.
