It is not for nothing that leather clothing is highly appreciated by practical people and those who are interested in fashion. It looks beautiful, repels water, it is convenient and comfortable in it. If you follow such things correctly, they actually do not wear out, retain their positive characteristics for a long time and delight their owners with a stylish appearance. True, these products are not immune to the appearance of folds. Let's see what you can do with a leather skirt if it has creases.

Peculiarities

Before looking for a way to iron a leather skirt, it is worth finding out what type of material it is made of. Today, such wardrobe items are made from three types of fabric:

  1. natural leather;
  2. leatherette or leatherette;
  3. high quality hypoallergenic synthetic leather, safe to wear (eco leather).

It's easy to do - you just need to pay attention to its inside out. If it is an ordinary fabric, then it is an artificial material, because natural has a fleecy, velvety base. Despite this difference, you can put the thing in order in any case, only a natural skirt will have to be ironed from the front side through cotton or paper sheet, and an artificial product - from the back side without using any material at hand. If there is a lining that does not make it possible to iron the thing from the inside, they do it on the outer surface, after placing a thin piece of woven fabric.

Eco-leather can be restored when crumpled, since it is made of polyurethane and has good elasticity. Moreover, it is durable and durable.

Perhaps the least repairable is leatherette - leatherette, but its condition and appearance can be improved at home.

When does the ironing need arise?

When to use these or those methods of smoothing is an important question, because if the thing is started and the slightest flaws are ignored, then in the future the damaged tissue structure will be subject to destruction, and the skirt can simply be thrown away.

The main defects that can arise as a result of improper clothing maintenance:

  • vertical and horizontal creases;
  • areas with elongated skin, if it is natural.

When a deformation has occurred, for example, if the product warped after it got wet, it will most likely not be possible to return it to its previous shape. Now about the thickness of the material: the thinner it is, the easier it is to smooth. Which, of course, cannot be said about the leatherette, thick and hard. It also matters how timely a flaw is detected on a skirt made of natural or artificial leather.

How to smooth a natural product?

At home, a genuine leather skirt can be ironed in several ways.

  • With an iron. This method can be fraught with some risk, since too high a temperature set on the device can lead to damage to the item. Therefore, we adjust it to the lowest values. A large enough piece of cotton should be laid on the front surface so that the sole of the iron does not touch the outside of the product under any circumstances. Steam can be applied separately if the iron is equipped with this function. This procedure cannot be carried out simultaneously with ironing.

Creases, as well as elongated areas, are smoothed by placing an iron on them for a few seconds. After the fold has disappeared, you need to wait until the product has cooled down and only then hang it from the hanger using special loops. If steam is used, the leather is slightly stretched during processing.

  • Treatment with natural steam. A product made of real leather can be straightened if it is hung in a bathtub heated by a stream of hot water. This creates an optimally humid environment, and the high temperature does not affect the fabric. The created conditions help to return things to their original state. The main thing is that water splashes do not fall on the skirt, and the folds on it are not too deep.
  • Plain water will help restore the item from creases. This requires a spray bottle and warm water. The skirt is placed on a hanger and sprayed on both damaged and intact areas. After that, hang the product away from the battery and other heating devices and leave it to dry completely. As a rule, if the defects are not critical, then after a while the folds will straighten, and the skin will again be flexible and soft.
  • A simple and effective way is cargo. Not every housewife dares to apply an iron to expensive natural leather. Then a less aggressive method will do - straighten the skirt with a load. A few books or a press are a good option.

Would need:

  • lay out clothes neatly on cotton material;
  • on top, smoothing the formed fold, place a homemade load;
  • leave for 12 hours.

It is important that the surface is absolutely flat and the thing is correctly laid out.

  • Smoothing oils. To return an attractive look to leather clothes, as well as to enhance its water-repellent properties, it makes sense to use petroleum jelly, glycerin, castor oil, and other vegetable oils of natural origin. It is allowed to apply them with a swab, brush or hand, the main thing is to smear all damage. The essence of the procedure is that the skin softens, moisturizes and restores it, since the oily substance penetrates into the smallest pores of the material. At the end, you should carefully remove the excess oil composition and wipe the thing with a soft dry cloth.
  • An excellent solution for smoothing is professional products that not only serve to restore deformations and damage to the material, but also protect such things from dirt, salt, nourish them from the inside and form a thin film that repels water. Thus, a leather jacket, raincoat or skirt will always have a presentable appearance. Such preparations include "Salamander", impregnation DryCare, Grangers Clothing Repel.

Synthetics care

For skirts and other leatherette garments, the ironing method is also suitable if they are labeled for this type of care. As a fabric that protects against additional damage, use gauze in several layers or a piece of an old clean sheet.

Dermatin softens well when soaked and exposed to steam, so you can use a "steam room" or spray with water.

The main thing is not to allow excess water, the fabric should only be thoroughly moistened from the side of the lining.

Consider other methods of exposure in order to level the surface.

  • Glycerin is a common pharmaceutical preparation, they soak a soft cloth or rags, pass places with creases, and finally wipe the entire surface of the skirt with the composition. The hanging item should dry completely. Sometimes, due to the active action of this substance, the color of the artificial skin can change, therefore it is better to check this in advance on a piece of material located in an inconspicuous place.
  • A good way to get rid of wrinkles is a solution made with equal proportions of water, conditioner, and vinegar. It should be poured into a spray bottle and applied to the problem area. After that, the skirt must be evenly stretched in all directions from the crease for 3-4 minutes.
    • The product made of synthetic leather can also be washed in the machine, setting the temperature to no more than +30 degrees and manual mode. The skirt is then hung up and dried naturally.
    • In case of minor damage, use a hair dryer, holding it 30 cm from the material and turning on warm air. In addition, a shoe cream matched to the leatherette, which tends to be absorbed completely, will help to straighten the folds.

    To restore a product made of eco-leather, it is important to use an iron from the inside of the material. A safe temperature for such a procedure is 35-40 degrees, but ironing is carried out using a double chintz lining. Immediately after this, you need to turn the skirt to the front side, smooth out the damaged areas with your hands and only then leave the thing to cool down. The simplest method is humidification with warm water or steam. If the fabric is not aligned enough, the procedure is repeated.

    In order for leather items to retain their original appearance, they must be properly stored. First of all, they must be hung, this applies to both natural and artificial material. In addition, it is important to eliminate small defects in time, clean products from dirt, moisturize and soften them with the help of special products. For natural leather, the presence of air is also important, so seasonal packaging should not be airtight.
