Hair dye is one of the easiest and relatively inexpensive ways to change the look, or at least visually get rid of gray hair. I always want to find the most profitable option so that it is of high quality and cheap. But this almost never occurs. Cheap paints can not only fail to give the desired effect, but also ruin the hair. The best option will always be to use professional hair dye products, such as Selective dye.

Peculiarities

Selective hair dyes have been on the market for quite some time: the Italian brand Selective Professional was founded in 1982. Now the manufacturer has several lines, including ammonia-free, coloring composition and toning conditioners.

Selective paints favorably distinguish the composition from the general background. In addition to pigments and dyes, it also includes caring components that allow you not only to protect your hair during coloring, but also to make it shinier, healthier and more vibrant. These components include: beeswax, cereal proteins, fruit fatty acids, a complex of vitamins and minerals. The manufacturer has both paints with and without ammonia.

Years of experience of the Italian brand has led to the development of a composition that provides uniform and deep coloring along with deep hair care.

This solved the problem of hair damage during coloring, which was quite acute in the past. Now Selective Professional products make it possible to experiment with the image without prejudice to the curls.

Advantages and disadvantages

Professional cosmetics will always take care of your hair better than an inexpensive mass-market product - this can also be attributed to Selective products.Their composition provides hair protection and care during the coloring process.

The dye composition is distinguished by a pleasant, non-suffocating aroma, which not all hair dye products can boast of. This makes it easier to use the paint, does not cause discomfort and does not irritate the mucous membranes and eyes.

A sufficiently dense texture does not allow the paint to spread over the skin when dyed. Moreover, it is easily applied with a brush and spreads over the entire length of the curls.

Despite the fact that Selective Professional products are professional, there are no complex manipulations that need to be carried out with them in order to dye the curls.

Selective products do not dry the hair when dyed and do not injure it. Due to its composition, the dye composition, when it gets inside the hair, additionally moisturizes and softens it.

The abundance of shades is also a virtue of the Selective Professional line. If for some reason the desired shade was not found, the paints mix well with each other to create unique shades. The manufacturer claims that the composition of the dye composition has been worked out so carefully that in the end there will be no color surprises when mixing tones and when dyeing in one tone. When using one tone, the result will be the color declared on the package, adjusted for the color of the base on which the paint was applied.

Of the shortcomings, users highlight the lack of the declared color fastness. On average, it is noted that it lasts for three weeks, after which it is noticeably washed out. However, the durability of the tone depends not only on the coloring composition, but also on the quality and condition of the hair on which it is applied. Not all curls retain the pigment well enough and can lose it almost completely in a fairly short period.

The price is also a disadvantage for some, as it is higher than the price for a pack of paint in a regular store. Also, Italian paint cannot be purchased in the mass market, but only in those that sell professional cosmetics. Also, you need to buy a separate oxidizer for Selective paint, which can cause difficulties.

At the same time, Selective paints have a volume greater than that of conventional paints. Therefore, one package of paint can be enough for more stains. So, for short hair, one tube is enough for two or three dyes.

Instructions for use

The process of using Selective dye has its own characteristics, but, in general, does not differ much from standard hair dyeing. To carry out dyeing at home, you will need a container for mixing paint, a brush, gloves, a negligee or any other cape to protect clothes from paint, a towel.

Before applying paint, you need to wash your hair. Previously, the dye was applied to oily hair in order to protect the scalp from the dye composition. Now the paints have a much more gentle composition, so they need to be applied to clean hair so that the paint can easily penetrate the hairs and fill them with pigment.

For staining, you need to choose an oxidizing agent with the desired percentage based on the purpose of staining:

  • coloring "tone on tone", in a darker tone or lightening up to 1 tone - oxidizer 3%;
  • there is gray hair, dyeing in a darker tone or lightening by 1-2 tones - oxidizer 6%;
  • there is gray hair or lightening by 2-3 tones - oxidizer 9%;
  • lightening by 4–5 tones - 12%.

To protect the skin of your hands during the dyeing process, you need to use protective gloves, and it is better to cover the clothes of the person who will be dyed with a cape or a hairdresser's peignoir.

The paint and oxidizing agent are mixed in a one-to-one ratio until smooth.

To simplify the dyeing procedure, it is better to divide the total mass of hair into zones and process it in turn. The mixture is applied to dry combed hair in strands, from roots to ends.

If there are a lot of gray hairs on the parietal zones, it is better to start dyeing with them.

The holding time of the dye composition on the curls is 30 minutes. If it is a re-staining, the roots are stained first. The composition is kept on them for 20 minutes. After that, the paint is stretched along its entire length and kept for another 10 minutes.

After the time has passed, there is no need to rush to wash off the composition from the curls. In order for the tone to penetrate the hair better, it is first useful to slightly wet the hair along the entire length, foam the dye composition for a few minutes... To remove paint from the scalp, massage it well with your fingers in the places where paint has got on it.

Rinse off the paint without using shampoo. This will provide greater tone strength. The manufacturer recommends using an abundance of running warm water. Rinse your hair until the water becomes clear. After dyeing, you can use a balm or conditioner to moisturize and soften your hair.

Reviews

User reviews are not unanimous. Basically, the paint is rated positively by them, but negative reviews are also found.

Most of the reviews praise the depth and saturation of the color after staining. This is exactly what is expected of it and most users are satisfied with the result.

However, the durability and saturation of the pigment sometimes does not play into the hands. Some people complain that Selective paints dye the leather very strongly. This is especially true for dark shades. It is often very difficult to wash off the paint from the skin after staining. And if along the edge line of hair growth this can still be somehow solved with the help of a layer of oily cream applied to the skin before dyeing, then the skin along the partings can remain dyed for some time.

Also, many users praise the dye for the healthy look of hair after dyeing. The curls after the procedure do not get confused and look well-groomed.

In some reviews, users complain about the paint durability of no more than three weeks. This is below the durability declared by the manufacturer and below the performance of some other hair dyes.

There are reviews in which users call the paint composition bad, since it is almost completely synthetic and contains few natural ingredients.

There are also cases of individual intolerance to paint components, when it causes allergic reactions: redness, itching, peeling of the skin. Therefore, experts advise to conduct a test on a small area of the skin before use. Also, some users noted that in the absence of obvious allergic reactions, the paint nevertheless tingled the scalp during staining, although the result was good in the end.

The floral scent, which is claimed to be an advantage of the paint, is not satisfying to some users, and they complain about its nuisance in their paint reviews.

Colorevo was not able to paint over gray hair for all users, although the manufacturer claims that it should. Another part of the reviews claims that Colorevo holds on to gray hair even better than healthy ones.

Next, you will find a master class on hair dyeing with a Selective brand product.
