It is difficult to imagine an apartment without doors, and as for having them in the kitchen, this is absolutely a necessity. During cooking, the hood or an open vent can not always cope with odors and steam; some of them still end up in other rooms. But the sliding doors to the kitchen will just be the way out of the situation, moreover, they will save the area of the apartment, unlike ordinary ones.

Choosing the right one

In today's diversity, it is difficult to know which door would be perfect for a given apartment. Therefore, when choosing, you should pay attention to such points as the size of the apartment, in what style the renovation was made, what functions such a door should perform. For example, sliding doors have a great advantage over conventional ones: this is functionality (depending on the type, a sliding one can serve as a screen-partition in a studio apartment, and a sliding one does not require space for opening and closing and, therefore, saves square meters). The disadvantage can be the financial part of the issue, since usually sliding doors are more expensive than conventional ones. But there are nuances here, the following factors affect the cost of doors.

  • The material it is made of. It can be wood, plastic, or glass.
  • Fittings. Even the simplest door can be transformed beyond recognition with expensive hardware.
  • Size and number of flaps. Even if the apartment has a non-standard doorway, it is always possible to make custom-made doors.
  • Mounting type and roller system. Do not underestimate this moment, because it depends on how easy it will be to close the door.

Thus, having identified the key points, you can easily choose an affordable sliding door.

What types are there?

All sliding doors are divided into several types according to the structure of the structure: sliding and folding. Let's consider the classification in more detail.

  • Coupe. Both parts open parallel to the wall. They are also good in that they do not steal a place in the kitchen at all, but you need to take into account that you cannot move furniture or household appliances to the wall, where the door opens directly.
  • Cassette or retractable (pencil case). They hide in a niche in the doorway. It should be noted that although these cassettes come with doors, this type is not suitable for thin walls.
  • Radial. Due to their rounded shape, they are among the most original. With the help of special guides, the sashes move, repeating the radius of the doors. The disadvantage of this type may be the price, but the originality fully justifies it.
  • Intra-doorway. Their installation is carried out in the center of the opening, thus, the sashes move towards each other. When choosing in-door doors, it must be borne in mind that there is a limitation on the number of leaves, there must be strictly 2.
  • Book. If the room is small, then just such a structure would be an excellent choice. Differs in compactness, and installation is possible in absolutely any opening.
  • Harmonic. Very attractive from an aesthetic point of view, they can serve as an excellent screen. In addition, the number of doors can be selected depending on the preferences of the buyer and the width of the doorway.

Regardless of the type of construction, all sliding doors can be divided into single-leaf and double-leaf. Both are distinguished by the following important qualities: versatility, stylish design and a wide range of models, as well as the ability to successfully divide both spacious and small-sized kitchens into zones. As mentioned earlier, the material for the sliding products also serves as a selection criterion.

So, models made of natural wood look more expensive compared to doors made of MDF, but due to their considerable weight, they require reinforced fastening systems and guides.

Glass sliding doors in the kitchen look stylish and allow you to choose a model for every taste: from colored or frosted glass, shock-resistant or combining several materials, for example, metal-glass or wood-glass. Plastic ones are distinguished by their availability and ease of installation.

Accordion kitchen doors

These are always a non-standard solution and, of course, will not go unnoticed in the apartment. But, like all other models, they have their weak points, which it is better to know about in advance. The thickness of the material in such a structure cannot be large. Delicate materials such as plastic and glass can quickly deteriorate, but even more durable wood, being thin, is also prone to wear and tear.

The second point is the complexity of the mechanism. Over time, its parts also become prone to destruction, which can lead to the inoperability of the door as a whole. In addition, this mechanism requires cleanliness, if not observed, the guides and rollers may jam, the appearance of squeaks and breakage.

If the doors are made of plastic, then you should remember about the temperature regime, if not observed, plastic deformation will occur. But even these "pitfalls" cannot overshadow all the advantages that accordion doors have.

  • Multifunctionality. Here they are the constant leader. They are able to block a narrow opening, divide a large room. In this case, the opening can be of any shape, and the screen with an arbitrary bend.
  • Saving space. This option will fit perfectly even into a small doorway.
  • Design. Many patterns and colors are available to the buyer.
  • The size. Width is what accordion doors can rightfully boast of. The adjustable number of leaves allows you to safely use such doors as a screen or partition.
  • Mounting. Since this type is supplied already assembled, even a beginner in this business can install them.

Sliding glass kitchen doors

Sliding glass doors always look gorgeous. They make it easy to transform the kitchen into a dining room, and the mirrored version will be a great addition to the interior. In studio apartments, they will help to embody the most daring ideas. We can confidently say that they will transform any interior, no matter what style it is made in, be it classic or high-tech. Sliding glass doors can be made of the following types of glass:

  • transparent;
  • with photo printing;
  • tinted;
  • painted in a single color;
  • mirror.

All sliding glass doors are made of 8-12 mm impact resistant glass. And they consist of the following components: a sliding system (roller carriages, latches and guides) and the door leaf itself. Sometimes it also includes locks (at the request of the client). Without exception, all models of this series are highly waterproof, so steam from the kitchen does not penetrate into other parts of the apartment. They also have the ability to soundproof, which is also important for a kitchen where household appliances are constantly working (a refrigerator, toaster, mixer, juicer or blender will not make noise in the whole apartment).

Usually sliding glass doors are made to order, taking into account the size and color preferences of the buyer. Also, the client has the opportunity to choose a design, for example, whether the door will be decorated with an artistic drawing. If the buyer wishes, a false wall is also created, in which the sashes are hidden when opening. Naturally, there is also an opportunity to choose whether the door will be single-leaf or double-leaf.

Sliding glass doors have one more undeniable advantage. Safety is their second trump card after stylish design. They will not slam shut from the draft, and the child will not be able to pinch his hand.

Thus, it is this option that has a number of qualities that advantageously distinguish it from others. This is easy installation, and modern design, and the possibility of non-standard solutions in the design of studio apartments. Every year, the variety of materials and technologies allows us to improve the systems of fastening for sliding doors and make their installation not only simple, but also an easy and pleasant process.
