Often, instead of a large spacious kitchen, housewives have to be content with cooking in a small and far from cozy space. Nevertheless, you should not give up, because even a small kitchenette can be turned into a cozy multifunctional room, if you do a little work on the layout and design. In today's article, we will tell you about the most effective transformations that do not require special skill, but it is these techniques that will make your kitchen practical and comfortable.

Let's talk about color

We all understand that if the space is small, we need to work, if not on its physical, then at least visual expansion. And here light colors come to our aid, in particular, white. It is this color that magically "pushes" the space, creating a feeling of spaciousness and neatness.

Now it is especially fashionable to decorate the kitchen in monochrome and white (floor, set and walls) in this way, erasing all the boundaries of a small space, having achieved the illusion of spaciousness. If this option is very "sterile" for you, then use different textures of white or combine it with other pastel shades.

Do not overdo it with colors - in order to avoid the effect of "heavy space", you should not use more than three colors in the interior of the kitchen. Try not to overdo it with dark shades, because our task is to add air, space, freedom, and dark colors act directly opposite to this idea.

It's all about the headset

To add style to a tiny kitchen, it is worth purchasing the most compact set, preferably an L-shaped layout, so that you can connect the sink, refrigerator and stove together.

If your kitchen is much less than 9 meters, then you should take a closer look at the linear layout as the most acceptable. Just try to arrange the furniture in a rational, convenient order for the hostess. For a narrow kitchen, you can consider the layout in two rows, taking into account the aisles between the furniture, otherwise it will be impossible to move around the room without problems.

Give up the doors. No matter how beautiful and carved your kitchen door is, it hides precious centimeters and makes the space cluttered.

If you really want to decorate a doorway, convert it into an arch or hang a curtain, plants or other decorative elements.

We change dramatically

Many now shake their heads negatively, because redevelopment is not only difficult, but also expensive. Not everyone wants to fiddle with papers for the housing inspection, explaining why they suddenly needed a new kitchen project. Nevertheless, radical changes can only be for the better. Take a look at some ideal replacements for your previous routine:

  • kitchen + living room;
  • kitchen + loggia;
  • kitchen + corridor.

Additional tiers, boxes and sections

Buy headsets with many built-in compartments to hide a bunch of essential items or utensils. Hide the appliances - stationary household appliances are absolutely inappropriate in a small kitchen, they literally "kill" all the comfort, turning the kitchen into some kind of work shop. Appliances must certainly be built in so as not to take up space.

Hidden storage rooms

In order to accommodate everything you need in such a small kitchen and not turn it into a dump of things, you can come up with various niches from hanging cabinets. You can nail cabinets right above the doorway. If you have a decor with a sofa and ottomans, then make sure they have built-in storage boxes. Try to make your kitchen as hospitable as possible, do not obstruct too much. For small rooms, minimalism is the most rational solution. Use every piece of furniture. Even the top of the refrigerator should be used to store some kind of utensils.

Optical illusions

Various techniques can be used to visually expand the space.

  • Try to decorate the walls with prints and ornaments that visually increase the space. You can use wallpaper with perspective.
  • Vertical stripe on wallpaper Will "raise" the ceiling.
  • Mirrors... A kitchen with mirrors will seem several times more spacious than it really is. Try to hang a mirror in front of windows to reflect light.

The right light is the key to warmth and comfort

Lighting in the kitchen should be uniform, without sudden changes and shadows. Shadows narrow the space, and different light sources literally "break" the kitchen into different blocks. However, do not use standard chandelier-in-the-center lighting. The best option would be multiple spotlights built into the walls or ceiling, or stationary along the walls. These lamps create a cozy diffusing light that is pleasing to the eye.

Minimum decorations, maximum ergonomics

Many people mistakenly believe that if you drag a lot of decorative ornaments, fridge magnets, floor vases, bouquets and other kitchen souvenirs into a small kitchen, it will make it incredibly beautiful. This is not true.

A minimum of furniture and decorations and complete practicality of all design elements can create real coziness. You shouldn't completely say “no” to jewelry either, but a couple of paintings and a few figurines are enough to create an excellent impression.

Small curtains. Do not cover windows with floor-length curtains - neat curtains no longer than a window will be a wonderful decoration.

And the last one - get rid of unnecessary junk. The less it is in the kitchen, the more free space you have for cooking and receiving guests. Keep your kitchen clean, no matter how big or small you have - a well-kept, uncluttered space is always cozy.
