Often in everyday life, on a hike, or just by coincidence, a situation may happen that there are no openers or, as people say, openers at hand. In the absence of a special device, the problem arises of how to cope with a closed tin can.

From the article you will learn what to do and how you can open canned food without having a specially designed device for this.

With a knife

In the absence of specialized equipment, you can use what is somehow similar to it in functionality or form. In this case, it is an ordinary knife. For a long time, people have used it in order to successfully open cans, because the opener had not yet been invented. This method can be called old, well-tested and reliable.

Any knife, for example, a kitchen knife or a pocket knife, will work to open the can.

  1. First of all, in order for the bank to stand firmly, it must be secured in some way. You can squeeze it firmly between your knees, or to avoid damaging your leg muscles, you can squeeze the can with your shoes.
  2. The next step is to hold the knife vertically and attach the tip to the very edge.
  3. In order to pierce the metal, you should, firmly holding the knife with one hand with the edge at the edge of the can, make a strong blow from above on the handle in order to literally drive the tip of the knife into the metal.
  4. Next, make translational movements around the can, as if cutting off the top layer of metal. Thus, you can cut off the edge of the lid around the entire circumference, and it will turn out to be no worse than a bottle opener.
  5. To completely free the jar from the top layer, the lid must be pry off with the edge of a knife and lifted.

This is great for opening the jar, especially if you have physical strength. But many men, indeed, have it, and besides, they carry a knife with them all the time, therefore in any such situation this should not cause a problem. The main thing is to practice cutting around so that the cut is near the very edge.

However, you need to keep in mind: this option is quite dangerous, and you can get seriously injured without experience.

We use a spoon

If there is no knife, it's okay, because even ordinary tableware can help you in this case: a fork, a spoon, or any other solid, but narrow, object in one of the edges. Consider how to use it correctly, and how can you open a jar if you only have a spoon, and it is not at all sharp... This is not at all scary, because a tin can is made of rather soft metal, and it will be enough to literally wipe it in one place with something harder, like the edge of a spoon.

It is good if you have such a cutlery made of durable metal, for example, stainless steel. But aluminum is also quite soft, and it is not clear which breaks first - your tin can or your spoon.

So let's give it a try.

  1. For a successful opening, firmly fix the can in your hand or, again, between your knees - in this case, there is nothing to hurt yourself. We do this so that it does not fidget and does not interfere with influencing only one place we need.
  2. In order to make an attempt to open the lid with a spoon, you will first need to wipe one hole in the gland, and it should be right next to the edge. Therefore, put the nose of a spoon to the edge and rub there until you can lower it a little deep into the can.
  3. After you have already managed to pierce the spoon down, try to push it deeper with forward movements, and also make an incision with it along the entire perimeter.
  4. As a result, the spoon simply becomes a lever, and you can remove the lid, completely emptying the contents.

other methods

Each of the options listed below requires strong physical strength. Indeed, canned food can only be opened with your own hands. Let's see how to do this.

You can simply crush the container on both sides so that it divides into two equal halves. Of course, this may not be the cleanest way, since the marinade can get very dirty, but the contents will remain intact. And you can get to the contents of the jar without even having the accessories and the tip with you.

To do this correctly, the first step is to turn the can horizontally to help you grip it more firmly. Next, you need to grab the jar so firmly that it does not slip out of your hands when pressed.

Grip it firmly with your hands, and with your thumbs, apply pressure exactly in the center of the can so that the metal bends inward. If everything worked out for you correctly, then you have a bank in your hands, bent on one side, bend it on the other - and you will get metal torn on the sides.

Let's figure out what to do if you are not that strong. Indeed, it is not uncommon for you to simply break the can from hunger or the peculiarities of your body, but you still need to open it. Then you can resort to alternative methods that are a little more cunning, but no less effective.

To successfully remove the lid, you need to understand how it is put on this very jar. It happens quite primitively. Take a round flat piece of metal, but not ideally equal to the diameter of the can, but a little more so that the edges can be bent under the press along the entire perimeter of the container. Thus, it turns out that this is just a cover and can be removed.

Knowing this, you can very simply open such a jar without much effort by removing the lid. To do this, it is enough to find a pebble.

It will be more convenient for you if the stone is large, but a small one may work.

  • If the stone turned out to be large, the surest way would be to turn the canned food upside down and simply make circular movements to erase the bent edges. It will take you a couple of minutes to open. When holes appear at the edges, just squeeze the jar a little, and the lid will separate from the base by itself.
  • If you only have a small stone in stock, then everything is also quite simple - you need to drive this very stone in a circle, that is, you are not making a movement with a jar, but with a stone. This method is a little more inconvenient, and a little longer, but the result will not be long in coming either.

conclusions

Based on all of the above, we can say unequivocally: it is more than real to open canned food, and it is absolutely not necessary to have a special device for this. If you are hungry, your own strength will help you to restore energy, and if even they are not there, then it's okay: use your ingenuity and rough cobblestone. The tin can, one way or another, will turn out to be open, and now you know exactly how to do it right.
