Currently, there are several main types of foil.

  • Transfer can be rolled and sheet. It is considered the easiest in terms of independent use. In addition, you can experiment with it indefinitely, creating new manicure options. This is facilitated by the widest range of colors. Moreover, even matte shades look gorgeous. By its structure, this type of foil is the most dense.From the name alone, it becomes clear how this material is used - it is copied onto the nail plate. This is necessary for the drawing to hold better.

  • Untranslated:
  1. sheet;

  3. inseparable (stickers).

In terms of the density of its structure, it is similar to the transfer. However, in order to use it, you need to know the basics of a special technique and get your hand in order. This type of foil does not have the indicated lines along which it must be torn off. It is necessary to trim the material along patterned lines or immediately according to the shape of the nail plate.

The tear-off type simplifies use, as it has dotted lines, which greatly simplify the tearing off of the foil. The leafy look is most often in the form of sheets on which various decorative patterns and elements such as butterflies and flowers are applied. Sometimes they need to be cut using a stencil. This type is perfect if you want to make the effect of cast metal nails.

  • Harvested is produced exclusively in a jar and is similar to gold leaf. The structure of this type is very original, and its thickness is the smallest of all types of foil presented today. Using this material, you can create intricate patterns on the plate and even mosaic paintings with many highlights. It is necessary to apply foil on a layer of special gel or glue.
  • Embossed can be sold in rolls or sheets. The structure of such a foil is pronounced and differs in a variety of colors, patterns, decorative variations. All the beauty from this material is easily imprinted on the nails, giving them a unique design. Most often used in conjunction with other types of foil.

  • ribbon most often it has a width of 2 to 3 mm and is sold in rolls. This type immediately has an adhesive base, which simplifies its use. This foil is used both as decoration and as a stencil. Design options

There are many options for nail design with foil. Everything is limited solely to fantasy. For parties, mirror nails in gold or silver will be appropriate. Ideally, this design can be realized using sheet types of foil. Delicate girls will surely love lace with a mesmerizing metallic sheen.

Multi-colored pieces of foil on the nail plates look very lively and original. This version of manicure can be realized using a wrinkled type of foil. Moreover, the smaller the pieces are, the more beautiful the drawing on the nails will be. It is best to apply the pieces using tweezers, glue, or a thin coat of fresh varnish.

Moon manicure is still at the peak of popularity. When creating it, colored foil is more than appropriate. After all, the metallic sheen involuntarily attracts attention, making the nails the center of attention.This option will be appropriate for both short and long nails.

A hole can be accentuated in a variety of ways. You can emphasize its bulge or curvature, or you can give the hole an unusual triangular shape. A straight piece of foil on it will also be very original and interesting. Of course, it is better to think over the shape of the hole in advance, choose the colors of varnish and foil. After all, the composition should be very harmonious.

The moon manicure with foil in contrasting colors becomes very interesting. For example, on a dark background in blue or black, gold or delicate light would be appropriate. When creating decorative elements from foil, it is best to use stencils. This will allow you to arrange all the holes neatly and in the same style.

Transfer foil is often used to highlight the well. It is advisable to apply it on a still wet base for better fixation. In this case, do not forget about the finish coat.

French manicure is no less popular. French clearly does not intend to lose his attractiveness. Designers recommend using this type of manicure both for everyday life and for festive events. With foil, it becomes even more refined and luxurious.

A unique manicure using pieces of foil can be created by emphasizing the smile line with a metallic sheen. For the free edge of the nail, you can use rounded elements that resemble a crescent moon or triangle with straight clear lines in their shape. You can also use ready-made stencils that offer a variety of options, ranging from simple lines. The foil allows, in addition to the usual jacket, to make an expressive oblique. Unlike moon manicure, in the French version, the foil is applied to the regrown part of the nail.

Mirror, or, as it is also called, reflective or metallic manicure is the king of parties and celebrations. Such marigolds will always be gorgeous. A shiny layer evenly covers the entire plate, making it look eye-catching. For such a design, it is better to give preference to thermal film.

Foil in gold or silver color will look especially impressive on nails. But designers advise avoiding additional drawings or accents, otherwise a bright and daring manicure will easily turn into vulgar and lurid.

The casting effect excites the desire of many fashionistas. Of course, it is most often performed on artificial nails. Although it is worth noting that it will look no less luxurious on natural ones. You can make such a manicure not only in the salon, but also on your own at home.

For a cast effect, it is best to use a transfer foil. It is the easiest to work with and even beginners can handle it. You can glue the foil on the nail plates using special glue or gel polish. To diversify this design option, you can additionally glue liquid stones or use acrylic powder. Also an interesting option would be to use stained-glass windows, which are made by applying various varnishes.

Crystal nails or “broken glass” manicure appeared not so long ago, but stubbornly does not want to leave the leading positions. The shards on the plates allow unlimited design experimentation. This type of manicure can decorate nails of any length and shape. Broken bright splashes look luxurious in any variation. Moreover, the nail plates do not seem overloaded, which allows you to apply pieces of foil to all ten fingers.

Due to the small pieces, the manicure looks light and resembles precious stones in its appearance. Recently, the most popular are holographic shards, which are applied to a black base. No less often used are various oriental themes, as well as placers of foil, reminiscent of expensive diamonds.Do not be afraid to place "broken glass" chaotically and without any system. Light hitting nails from different angles will turn them into an intricate and mesmerizing kaleidoscope.

Not so long ago, a new type of foil appeared - liquid, and almost immediately it became a new trend in nail art. Such a foil itself is a gel polish interspersed with small metallic sparkles. When they dry up, they very much resemble a bright film with a unique shine. The main advantage of such a manicure is the ease of execution. In addition, such marigolds can be easily supplemented with painting or stickers.

Geometric manicure using foil will look very impressive and interesting. It is advisable to choose durable types of foil for this option. As for the size and width of the figures, they can be very diverse. You can opt for parallel lines, intricate lattices, expressive triangles, extraordinary waves.

In the color scheme, it is best to prefer a contrast with the base coat. Moreover, it is not necessary to choose a monochromatic foil, because there are original options with interesting prints. If there are thin metal elements, it is recommended to use tweezers to apply them.

How to use?

It is easier to master new manicure techniques if you have all the necessary tools at hand. Applying foil is not an easy task, and this requires not only a special manicure arsenal, but also a lot of patience. To correctly make gorgeous nails using metallic sheen at home, you should stock up on the following materials and devices in advance:

  • a solution to soften the cuticle;
  • a set of accessories for manicure;
  • varnish for the base layer;
  • a special file for polishing nails;
  • a liquid that helps defatting, such as a primer;
  • favorite foil;
  • adhesive, if the foil does not have a sticky base;
  • UV lamp;
  • stick or other leveling and pressing tool.

Before you start doing a manicure, you need to carefully choose a high-quality adhesive for foil. You can buy it at any specialty store. However, you should first decide what kind of glue you should use.

The most popular is the Jina lineup. Its main advantage is that it is packed in tubes and has a brush. Thus, it is easy to apply to the nails. In addition, it lays down in an even layer on the plate and holds metal material well. There is no need to use additional agents for drying.

Adhesive solution for foil-clad material is applied to the base coat of varnish after it is completely dry. Then you should wait until the color of the glue changes, and then apply the foil. If you hurry, then the manicure may not turn out very beautiful, since the film may not stick. It will also be better if the adhesive is applied in a thin layer.

In the event that it is planned to use rhinestones in the design, then it is better to opt for Hongyi glue. It features a comfortable thin brush and dries in just 5 minutes. Additional UV drying is not necessary. In addition, it is easy to remove in case of contact with the skin.

Rio Profi glue dries even faster - in 3 minutes. However, it is completely colorless and creates a glossy layer. Sold exclusively in 10 ml black bottles. Global Fashion is also known among the quick-drying adhesives. Initially, the substance is white, but becomes colorless as it dries.

Using the foil that is applied to the glue is not difficult at all. To do this, it is enough to follow some rules:

  • remove the previous manicure so that the nail plates are absolutely clean;
  • give nails the desired length and shape using manicure supplies;
  • polish nails with a buff with an abrasiveness of 300 grit;
  • treat nails with a degreasing agent;
  • apply a base coat to the plates;
  • carry out drying under a special lamp;
  • remove excess layer with a special napkin;
  • apply the base color varnish to the nails and dry again with UV rays;
  • when the varnish dries, apply the glue on top according to the design and wait until its color changes;
  • take the foil and apply the inner side (most often it is white) to the places where the glue is applied;
  • with a stick or other suitable device, evenly press the pieces of foil to the nails for a couple of seconds;
  • to get a good transfer of the foil coating, you need to remove the top layer in one quick motion and wait 2 hours;
  • cover the nails with a hardening coating, for example, gel.

Do not cover the foil too early, as it may warp. For such types of foil as tear-off and sheet, an adhesive must be used, since they are often more rigid and do not adhere well to the plates.

If you use a foil material with a sticky base, then you can greatly simplify the procedure by dispensing with glue. Also, it can always be replaced with varnish. Metallic coatings that can be simply printed on your nails are especially good. The work algorithm in this case will be as follows:

  • erase traces of the previous manicure;
  • treat nails with a manicure set, giving them the desired look;
  • polish the plates with a buff;
  • apply a degreasing agent and wait until it is completely dry, while you should not use additional drying;
  • prepare the foil: cut or tear into the necessary pieces or cut out the desired decorative elements;
  • cover the nail with a base and dry under a special lamp;
  • paint the plates with the selected varnish and dry again under the lamp;
  • apply foil according to the design, if there is a transfer film on it, then it should be removed;
  • gently press down and level the foil layer using a suitable object;
  • cover the nails with a fixing solution and dry under a lamp;
  • remove excessively adhering layer.
