Each new season of the "nail" -industry pleases us with new fashion trends. One of them is the “veil” technique, also referred to as “tights”. What it is, how to design correctly and from what tones of the color palette, we will consider in detail below.

Description of the technique

The veil manicure technique is based on the principle of translucency. It usually uses the same base color and pattern. The coating itself or the background should be translucent, the tone of the pigment in the classic version should be ideally the same in order to create the desired illusion of nylon tights. Basically, this is a design with a pattern on a translucent background.

Advanced nail salon masters manage to use a similar technique on already painted nails.

So, they decorate the accent nails of a monochromatic manicure, and sometimes combine the "veil" with other methods of execution (classic, jacket, gradient).

The "veil", combined with the technique of negative space, looks beautiful. For example, a part of the nail can have a nylon design, and the second has a lace pattern on an unpainted nail plate.

The veil technique allows the use of varnish products with different coating textures. For example, you can use glossy and matte gel varnishes for this nail design. At the same time, matte varieties can have a different imitation of texture (velvet, velveteen, satin or velor). If you don't have a matte varnish at hand, and you definitely want to make the design matte, then for the "tights" use a glossy varnish, covering the pattern with a layer of matte top.

What colors of gel polish are suitable?

Color solutions for this technique can be very different.In the traditional version, these are black and white. Today, professional craftsmen take the technique as a basis, but they already perform contrasting patterns on it, drawing on a translucent background, for example, delicate flowers, butterfly wings, veined leaves or feathers.

The “veil” technique, made in dark shades of the color palette, looks great. For example, she will look stylish in gray, chocolate color. The purple design with a matte texture, as well as the design in Marsala or khaki, will also be chic.

When doing it, it should be borne in mind that too light colors do not look very good in this technique, the nude scale is especially not suitable for this coating.

How to make to look fashionable?

There are two ways to make a veil manicure:

  • having previously created a pattern, and then covering the nail with a smoky background;
  • applying toning and only after that drawing the necessary elements of the picture.

Both techniques involve the preliminary preparation of the nails with the removal of the pterygium and cuticle.

To make a design according to the rules, you need to prepare a base, a top, sculpting gel, pigmented varnish, a drying lamp and a drawing tool. You may need a thin brush and dots with different attachments (to create round dots).

A camouflage base is used when you don't want the nail plate to show through.

Before applying the base, the sanded nail is treated with a dehydrator to remove residual sawdust.

The technology for performing manicure using the smoky technique consists of the following sequential stages:

  • create a foil palette where the top is mixed with pigmented gel polish;
  • a thin layer of base coat is applied to the nails (thick and dense will spread, falling behind the side rollers and the base of the nail);
  • the base is dried under a special lamp (UV or LED) for the required time, which depends on the type of varnish product used (on average 1 minute);
  • draw the contour of the nail, drawing an even and equal line in thickness, starting from the base of the nail in the middle;
  • start forming a pattern, for which they use dots;
  • the design is made out at will, choosing some drawing as the basis;
  • after the drawing is ready, it is covered with a layer of toning with a translucent texture;
  • the coating is dried under a lamp, after which it is covered with a layer of a transparent top;
  • remove residual stickiness from under the cuticle using a cotton pad dipped in a "cleanser".

The technology can be slightly modified, first by covering it with tinting, and only after that by drawing and fixing the drawing with a layer of finish. You can also upgrade this method. To do this, you can use a little glitter or acrylic powder. In this case, the decor is applied dosed on the used acrylic paint or gel polish (if the drawings are created with it).

Choosing this option for the design of the "veil" technique, you need to take into account that it takes twice as long to polymerize the powder or shine than the usual layer of gel polish or base. As a rule, it will take an average of two to four minutes for the decor to set well.

After it is dry, you need to fix the cover with another layer of top and dry it.

What if you don't have drawing skills?

There is no limit to perfection, as well as nothing is impossible when you want to make a beautiful design, but there is no drawing ability. In this case, it is worth resorting to some tricks. For example, stamping can be a great way to apply a picture. This manicure assistant is a special manicure plate with an engraved pattern of various themes. Use a small soft roller to transfer the pattern.

With the help of these stamps, you can depict on a tinted basis a variety of lace, monograms, flowers, branches, plants, leaves, peas, a net, a cage, snowflakes and much more.If special stamping templates are not available, you can use transparent stickers.

Water decals will hold onto nails especially well using the nylon effect technique.

Color solutions

    The "voile" design with a matte finish looks better. In this case, the technique can be combined with colored varnishes. For example, nylon manicure with nude, pinkish-coral and beige background, fuchsia, mint, peach, coffee will be beautifully combined. Such a design looks no less gentle in contrast to the pale pink tone and color of lilac. A luxurious design is obtained by combining the veil technique and coverage in a Marsala shade.

    The technique of such a manicure is in the next video.
