Features, pros and cons

The positive qualities of a folding sofa-book without armrests are a number of factors:

  • reliable and simple design;
  • relatively low cost and, as a result, availability to a wide range of consumers;
  • long service life;
  • the folding / unfolding procedure of the sofa can be easily performed even by a person with disabilities;
  • when folded (sitting place) takes up relatively little space and can be installed even in small rooms;
  • safety - the absence of armrests reduces the risk of injury to a minimum;
  • original design;
  • most models have a box under the seat for bed linen and other small items.

But this type of furniture also has negative sides.

  • Indoor installation it is necessary to leave a certain space between the back and the wall - this stock is necessary for folding the sofa. Of course, if you plan to use the book only for sitting, this rule is not necessary.
  • Sleeping place not very wide.

Varieties

In today's market, you can find a huge number of the most diverse models of a sofa-book without armrests. There are several types.

  • In width: standard, narrow and wide. The latter are distinguished by the narrowed dimensions of the seat and back.Suitable for placement in small apartments, where there is no extra space. They are also called guest rooms, since sleeping on them is not very comfortable due to the narrowness of the berth. Wide models are called sleeping models.
  • Shape: straight and angular. Simple (straight) ones are more common.
  • By the number of landing sections: two- and three-section (straight) and multi-section (angular).
  • On the fact of the presence / absence of blocks with springs: springless and spring-loaded... In the first case, the elasticity and softness of the sofa is provided by the filler - latex, polyurethane foam or foam rubber. Spring springs are also subdivided into 2 types - with dependent and independent springs. Blocks with dependent springs (bonnel) differ in that all elements of such a block are connected to each other.

For sofas with independent springs, each metal spiral is covered with a separate cover. This design is more durable, but also much more expensive.

  • Based on materials of which the frame and cover of the sofa are made. Let us dwell on this point in a little more detail.

Frame and upholstery material

The main frame of the furniture can be made of metal alloys, high-strength wood or chipboard (MDF). Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. Sofas with a metal frame are the most durable and durable but rather cumbersome and expensive. Furniture with a wooden base is considered the safest from an environmental point of view, therefore, this option is often used for the production of children's sofas.

but the most widespread type is a sofa with a chipboard base, since such material is much cheaper than pure wood and metal. True, such furniture is considered the most short-lived.

For the manufacture of upholstery, textile fabrics of increased density, natural leather and its synthetic substitutes, as well as non-woven "anti-vandal" materials - microfiber, flock, scotchguard and the like can be used. The latter option is especially relevant for families with small children and / or pets.

Dimensions (edit)

Sofas also differ in length. One-and-a-half upholstered furniture in two versions is considered standard: 190x120 cm and 200x120 cm (dimensions are given for an unfolded sofa). There are models with a length of 180 cm, 160-210 cm, but they are not so widespread.

Double models are usually available in sizes 200x160 cm.

You can also find small children's sofas up to 170 cm long on sale.

Selection Tips

      How to choose the optimal sofa model for your apartment? The main selection criterion is the ratio of the dimensions of the furniture and the free space of the room in which you want to install it. After all a sofa that is too large can take up all the space in the room and make it difficult to move around it.

      The second selection criterion is the material from which the supporting structure is made. As mentioned above, sofas with a metal frame will last the longest, however, if such a model does not suit you with its high price, turn your attention to budget options from chipboard or MDF. The service life of even such furniture is on average 5-10 years.

      The material and color of the upholstery are also very important. Furniture should be in harmony with the rest of the room. Of the materials, the most practical are "anti-vandal" - they will not be damaged even by the sharp claws of your pets (if you have them).

      Don't forget about the main purpose of your purchase. If you are looking for a sofa as an additional (or main) bed, consider the size and number of people who will sleep on it when choosing.
