The sofa is the most demanded furniture in the hall. During the day, you can relax on it, accommodate guests, and at night transform into a bed and sleep well. Draw-out mechanisms are diverse, if the product is chosen correctly, even a child can expand it.

Advantages and disadvantages

It is difficult to doubt the benefits of a sofa bed, it has many advantages:

  • comfortable resting place;
  • a compact sofa when unfolded can become a full bed;
  • roll-out mechanisms are convenient for unfolding;
  • a significant plus will be the presence of a linen box;
  • modern sofas are often equipped with orthopedic mattresses;
  • a wide range of models makes it possible to integrate the product into any interior.

If a roll-out sofa is made of high quality, it has only one minus: during regular use, the rollers can damage the floor, provided that the covering is not strong enough.

Varieties

The furniture industry produces a wide variety of transformers: with a flat bed, wooden armrests, a high back, linen drawers and other features. They can be classified by shape, size, purpose, method of transformation. In terms of shape, assembly type and design, sofa beds are of the following types.

  • Straight. The classic look of the sofa, located in one line. It can be of different sizes and ways of unfolding. In most cases, they are installed against the wall and only island options can take any place in the room.
  • Angular. Such models are left-handed or right-handed, depending on which angle they can accept.The corner block remains stationary, the elongated part of the product undergoes transformation. When unfolded, the area of the corner sofa is much larger than the bed of the rectilinear model.
  • U-shaped. This is a large-scale construction with two corners, made in the form of the letter "P". Unfolding, it occupies a vast area that can accommodate a whole family. The model is designed for large rooms. It is installed in the corner, under a separate wall or in the center of the room, denoting a recreation area.

A U-shaped sofa can accommodate a large company: sitting in a circle, the guests see each other during communication.

  • Ostrovnoy. Such models have the same upholstery on all sides, so they can not only be moved to the wall, but also displayed anywhere in the room, they look equally good from all sides. The insular arrangement of the sofa in the room is reflected in their name.
  • Modular. A very comfortable type of furniture that can form a voluminous soft structure or crumble into small sections: small sofas, poufs and even coffee tables. Such a set makes it possible to change the decor in the room at least every day.
  • Round, semicircular. The radial sofa is beautiful and comfortable, all guests sit in a circle and are in equal conditions. To turn into a bed, the product unfolds into a circle of regular geometric shape and occupies a large area, but the convenience of such products can be argued. Some interiors, such as those with bay windows, need a similar addition.
  • Narrow, mini-sofa. When folded, the sofa is designed for two seats. The withdrawable system slides out to the side. It turns out a compact single bed.

Mechanisms

Furniture designers have come up with many ways to turn a cozy sofa into a comfortable free bed. Not all models are equipped with casters, for example, the sliding "book" mechanism will work if the backrest is folded back. Such sofas cannot be close to the wall, as they will need a place for transformation. The same applies to the French click-and-gag mechanism. Roll-out sofas can have the following mechanisms.

  • "Accordion". The mechanism works easily, you just need to slightly raise the seat and pull it towards you. To fold the sofa down again, you must do everything in the reverse order. No effort is required, even a child can handle the task. To transform, you will need enough space in front of the model. The frame of the product is made of metal or wood. Thanks to the lamellas, the mattress has an orthopedic meaning.
  • "Dolphin". The mechanism is in most cases used for corner sofas, but sometimes straight ones are also equipped. During the transformation, the product takes the form of a diving dolphin, hence its name. The model unfolds easily and accessible, the movable part can be pulled out on casters. Often the sofa is equipped with a deep linen box.
  • "Eurobook". Sofas with this mechanism can be either on casters or without them. To unfold the model, pull the seat towards you, then the back will be installed in the resulting space.
  • Traditional roll-out. This type of sofas is reliable, easily transformable, and is recommended for daily use. The structure rolls out and unfolds directly in front of itself on the brackets. If you need to unfold the corner sofa, you should pull on its large section, which is movable, and then everything will happen in the same way as with the straight model.

Materials and design

The upholstery material plays an important role in the look and feel of the sofa. In addition, the reliability and durability of the product depends on the fabric, as it happens with impregnations that repel water, dirt, fungus and mold. The most common materials include the following.

  • Leather. A natural product is expensive, requires special care, but also looks respectable.All kinds of substitutes and eco-leather are much cheaper and easier to care for.
  • Jacquard. A surprisingly beautiful texture with a variety of patterns, with a gloss or matte finish. It has a complex composition of different threads - wool, silk, linen, synthetics, cotton. The fabric is thin, lightweight, but durable. The sofas are well decorated with solid color pillows combined with jacquard pillows.
  • Velours. Soft fabric, pleasant to the touch, similar to velvet, only with a shorter nap and is cheaper. It contains synthetics, supplemented with woolen and cotton threads. The material stretches well, does not wrinkle, it is easy to clean and is considered harmless.
  • Matting. It has a beautiful weaving structure, suitable for country styles, Provence, shabby chic, but it is not recommended to buy it in apartments where there are animals - the fabric gives clues.

As for the design, it is influenced not only by the material of the sofa cover, but also by the design possibilities, as well as the style purpose:

  • cozy Provence style products with a floral print;
  • in the Baroque direction, roll-out models are rarely found;
  • modular laconicism of minimalism;
  • the u-shaped sofa in the loft interior is made of leather of different colors and textures;
  • a small product complete with an armchair in a classic setting;
  • a rough and simple look for a country-style sofa;
  • the corner model of a club destination creates a cozy and welcoming atmosphere;
  • an English classic sofa participates in the creation of an interior for a bachelor;
  • modular products for the terrace on casters easily form a berth, pallets are used in the design.

Dimensions (edit)

Before going shopping, you should choose a place for the sofa, measure and evaluate its capabilities, understand in which direction the transformation should take place. If a corner is highlighted, you need to decide on the model - left-handed or right-handed. After all the observations, the dimensions of the product will already be clear.

A two-seater sofa for a good sleep can be unfolded in dimensions 160x200 cm. For a single bed, the optimal width will be 100 cm, a one and a half bed will be slightly wider - 120 cm.

It is better to buy a double sofa in a small room, but with full sleeping possibilities. The bed of such a crumbs can move forward by 180-190 cm, and its width will match the parameters of the folded sofa.

Selection Tips

Having chosen a place for the sofa and having figured out its dimensions, you should examine the situation in the room and understand what style and color the purchased model should have.

Even before making a purchase, you need to know the purpose of the product: it will be intended for two, for daily use, he will have to brighten up the corner or zone the center of the room, do you need drawers or shelves below... A clear idea of the purpose will allow you to evaluate the size and shape of the transformer.

When choosing a model, you should pay attention to the transformation method: the simpler it is, the cheaper and more durable the product, since there will be nothing to break in it. For those who do not want to have a gap between the wall and the sofa, you should forget about the "book" and consider pull-out models.

    It is better not to test expensive flooring with rollers, but to immediately purchase a product with a "pantograph".

    Anyone who relies on the nighttime possibilities of a sofa should take care of the comfort of the sleeping place. In this case, it is better to purchase latex or an orthopedic base as a filler.

    For small rooms and children, it is better to choose models without armrests: growing up, babies will still fit on it.

    A folding transforming sofa should be chosen seriously: it will either become a cozy and comfortable resting place, or it will annoy you for many years with its ill-conceived design.
