Having decided to have a parrot, even the smallest, you should immediately adjust yourself: we bring into the house not a toy, but a living being, with its own character, requirements and habits. And we will have to reckon with this, because we are "responsible for those who have tamed."

When the parrot starts talking, there will be a feeling that not a bird lives in the house, but another member of the family. And he speaks in suspiciously familiar voices, and laughs like someone from the household. If a dog lives in the apartment, its barking will also be reliable in the parrot.

In order for the bird to talk and feel everyone at home with its family, you need to properly build relationships.

What you need to know about pet parrots?

Even before buying birds, it is better to immediately find out as much as possible about them so that there are no surprises that have caused refusals from pets. Parrots get used to their owners and are very upset about separation, from this they can get sick, become depressed and even die.

You need to clearly know why the bird is being purchased. If to decorate the interior or relieve stress after a hard day, then you should buy two parrots. They will deal with each other, communicate in their avian language and will not demand outside attention. It will be enough for the owner to look after them and admire their presence.

But then you shouldn't expect even "hello" in human language from the parrot.

If a bird is needed for communication, the task is to teach it words, only one pet should be purchased. Parrots are social animals, they need company, and if there is no girlfriend nearby, the bird will literally look into the owner's mouth, waiting for communication. By pronouncing the same words or phrases often, we replenish the parrot's vocabulary.The males learn especially quickly, but the female's words are pronounced more clearly. For those who have not been renovated, who really love animals, we advise you not to close the cage.

In order to eat and sleep, the parrot will always find a way to her, but at the same time he will participate in the life of the family. The bird will be able to move around the apartment, sitting on the shoulder or head of the owner. She will throw off the shelves everything that is bad, and for hours she will toss a five-ruble coin or a box of matches. And this is not all the pranks that a parrot is capable of, but they only touch real bird lovers.

With a freely walking pet, you should forget about the interior doors and accustom yourself not to use them, since the bird often flies after the owner or follows him on foot. For those who have a reserved attitude towards animals, or have just made repairs, it is better to keep the parrot in a cage, but sometimes give it the opportunity to fly in order to "stretch" its wings.

Even if the bird is constantly in the cage, you will still have to communicate with it, otherwise it will become bored.

And yet, if a baby is living in the house, from whose crying the head "splits", having got a parrot, you should be prepared that there are now two crying "children" in the family. When one starts screaming, the second one immediately continues. So, what should we be ready for:

  • clean the cage;
  • pick up the trash after the pet outside the cage;
  • pay attention to the parrot;
  • tolerate noise: the larger the bird, the louder its voice;
  • be prepared for the parrot to gnaw furniture, wallpaper, books;
  • he can throw down any objects on which he has enough strength, and listen to their ringing and crackling with pleasure.

What do we get in return:

  • a real, devoted companion;
  • to some extent the interlocutor, because large birds can communicate meaningfully;
  • relieving stress by watching funny pet pranks;
  • children learn to love, be kind, tolerant and responsible;
  • if there are other animals in the house, their interaction with the parrot can be unforgettable.

What does a parrot need?

Further there will be information for those who were not frightened by the playful nature of the parrot, and who are ready to take responsibility for the wayward bird. Before you go to choose a pet, everything should already be prepared for him in the apartment.

  1. A cage for a budgerigar is chosen with a volume of at least 45x60x60 cm, for a pair of birds - one and a half times more. The larger the pet, the larger the cage.
  2. Perches located at different heights should have embossed edges, so it is easier for the bird to cling to them.
  3. A drinker and several feeders are required: for grain feed and fruit with nuts.
  4. A bathing suit is installed for the parrot, with the help of water it gets rid of feather parasites.
  5. The bird loves toys: ladders, mirrors, bells, swings. They should be used to equip the cage before the pet appears.
  6. You need to purchase several types of grain feed and vitamins in advance.

Particular attention should be paid to the selection of a place for the cage. It should not be in a draft, in a dark place, or, on the contrary, in direct sunlight. Birds should not be placed in a kitchen with a gas stove, especially under the ceiling, they will suffer from hot air and combustion residues.

Parrots are difficult to react to loud noise, so you should not place the cage in the nursery or near the TV.

What parrots are able to live in apartments?

All parrots can live in apartments, but each case should be considered. Large birds require a large area. Pets need a suitable microclimate, without drafts, increased dampness and temperature extremes. In addition, the choice of a parrot breed depends on our expectations (what we want from a pet), on the presence of children in the family and financial investments. Having considered the characteristics of different types of parrots, you can understand which family they are more suitable for.

Wavy

If you choose a pet among all breeds of parrots, wavy parrots can be considered universal.They are suitable for young and old, free and busy, as interior decoration and as real good friends. Budgerigars are kept in families with babies, they rarely bite, and if this happens, their bite resembles a completely tolerable tingling. The larger the bird, the more dangerous its beak.

Large breeds, with one blow open the nuts, the strength of their beak is enough to inflict painful injuries even on an adult. Therefore, it is better for families with children to make their choice in favor of a small breed.

These birds prefer high-pitched voices and parade children in a funny way. If you take a young individual (from 4 to 8 weeks) and actively engage with it, it will learn several dozen words, it can be taught the simplest tricks, for example, to sit on a finger. Unlike large breeds, budgerigars never take revenge, but they can become sad if offended.

Corella (nymphs)

Nymphs are most often found in gray and lemon color, with beautiful tufts and pink, like painted cheeks. They are sociable, most often have balanced, docile characters.... Their voices are much stronger than wavy ones, not everyone can tolerate such harsh sounds.

The cage with overly agitated birds is temporarily covered with a towel. Corella is not very good at learning human speech, but with patience, they can be taught a few phrases. In nature, these parrots fly actively, therefore they should be given the opportunity to fly in the apartment... In addition, they need a cage as spacious as for large parrots.

Lovebirds

These birds are suitable for people who do not have time to engage in their upbringing and training. Lovebirds love to live in pairs and share their time with each other, and people are allowed to admire and enjoy it.

They shouldn't try to teach them human speech, they prefer their chirping. These beautiful variegated birds have a strong beak, which can seriously injure a person. They are credited with unusual marital fidelity, although during the period of sexual activity they can quarrel with each other so seriously that they have to be seated in different cages, and sometimes even change partners.

Roselle

Bright cute birds with a gullible curious character. They are completely immersed in the affairs of the family and become equal participants in it. They live up to 20 years, but they are very sensitive to drafts and humidity, therefore, if they are improperly maintained, they can die much earlier.

Amazons

These are large birds ranging in size from 25 to 45 centimeters in length. They are ideal partners for single people, very attached to their owners. They live up to 60 years old, study well, know a large number of words and chat incessantly, even when no one is listening. They are not afraid of animals and strangers, they can entertain guests without hesitation. Often they answer meaningfully. The bird is very friendly, it uses its strong beak only for defense. Amazons have only one drawback - high cost.

Quakers

Amazingly intelligent birds from South Africa. They are easy to learn, learn a large number of words, but at the same time they do not bother people with their conversations if they are not addressed. When they need to talk, they switch to other pets, more often cats and dogs.

Cockatoo

Big expensive parrot, intellectual. Able to memorize up to 300 words. Loves people and communication with them very much. When he is alone, he has fun as best he can: sings, dances, praises himself. But if he knows that someone is at home and does not approach him, he will scream in a heart-rending voice, demanding attention.

Jaco

It is better to start a Jaco for people with a strong-willed character; during upbringing, pets should immediately be made clear who is in charge here. For this reason birds are not suitable for families with children, Grays try to command them and become uncontrollable. Though they are wayward and jealous, people love them for their high intelligence and meaningful understanding of words.

Summing up, we can conclude that budgerigars are suitable for small apartments and families with babies. Those who do not have time to communicate with birds can choose lovebirds, and those who agree to devote every free minute to a parrot will choose a rosella. For lonely people, Amazons will become good friends and companions.
