To serve such a popular delicacy, special dishes are used, which differ in appearance and size. In this article, we will consider cocktail glasses and glasses of various types.

Types of glasses

Glass containers of unusual shapes amaze with their variety. Remember that each drink has a specific texture, temperature, and other characteristics. Some cocktails are layered, others are prepared by whipping and stirring. The glasses for serving are designed taking into account the above characteristics of the drink.

Martini

The glass for this drink is also called a cocktail glass. This type of container has a charming and sophisticated appearance. The bowl is made in the shape of a cone (triangle) and is placed on a thin and long stem. The volume of the glass can vary from 100 to 250 milliliters.

It should be noted that dishes of this shape are used not only for martinis, but also for other beverages based on vermouth.

Hurricane

It is believed that the shape of this glass was invented by accident, when one of the furnaces exploded at the foundry. The molten glass that shattered from the strong wind took on an irregular shape. Translated from English, the name of the drink is translated as "hurricane".

The main characteristic of the glass is its wide neck and pear-shaped shape (rounded at the bottom).

At the bottom there is a small and stable leg. The most demanded volume is 440 ml, however, on sale you will find models with other sizes. Cookware makers began making harricane glasses with long and curved legs.Glasses of this type are also used to serve exotic and tropical cocktails.

Margarita

This type of tableware cannot be confused with others due to its non-standard shape. A bowl with a long and straight leg consists of two parts: a recessed container and a wide neck. The glass has been specially designed for this drink. The edges of the container are covered with a rim of salt or sugar. The vessel is believed to have been invented in Mexico.

Poco Grande

The container for the drink, translated as "little giant", is considered universal. The dishes are actively used not only in restaurants and other similar establishments, but also at home. A bowl with a round neck and rounded downwards stands on an even leg of medium length.

These glasses are great for mixed drinks and fruit cocktails. In rare cases, they are used for mulled wine and even beer.

Irish Coffee mug

The Irish-style coffee mug looks like a bowl on a compact and stable leg, the height of which does not exceed two centimeters. There is a small handle on the side. When creating the form, experts were looking for a practical and convenient glass. Irish coffee is a hot beverage that can burn you when consumed.

Bowl sizes vary depending on the type of beverage and ingredients. Irish coffee glasses are great for serving the following drinks:

  • latte;
  • hot punch;
  • coffee with alcohol (whiskey, cognac, rum and other drinks).

There is information that the drink, popular all over the world, was invented in the first half of the 19th century. It was written by Tom Sheriran, a local bartender. After that, a special glass was invented, using which it was convenient to serve and drink a drink.

Cocktail glasses

While glasses were previously used only for a specific type of drink, now there are many types used to serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.

Toggle switch

The first type of glass, which we will focus on, is characterized by low walls and a thickened bottom. It was originally designed to taste different types of alcoholic beverages.

Due to the convex shape of the bottom, it could not be placed on the table. The tasters constantly held the glass in their hands, while heating its contents. Due to this, the aroma of the drink was revealed with renewed vigor. Currently, this type of container has significantly expanded its purpose.

The oval-shaped jug is perfect for non-alcoholic cocktails and juices.

Collins

This name was given to the following type of dishes thanks to the Tom Collins cocktail. It is a tall, cylindrical vessel. The volume varies from 280 to 410 ml. In bars, such glasses are often used to treat guests with fruit juice or soda. This practical dish is perfect for serving longs (large volume cocktails).

Old fashion

The name of this sustainable and practical glass means "old fashioned". This name is associated with the classic and widespread alcoholic drink Old Fashioned. It is a mixture of bourbon, whiskey and cane sugar. Such a vessel is characterized by a thick bottom and low wall height. The size may vary. Often the walls of the glass are covered with textured patterns.

Highball

The next type has the shape of a cone and a volume that can range from 240 to 350 ml. Most often, such a vessel is chosen for serving drinks and cocktails without adding alcohol. For alcoholic compositions, it is also used, but only for those types of cocktails in which the components are mixed.

The glass got its name from the cocktail of the same name, which was first served in a tall glass with a stable bottom.

Latte glass

The popular latte coffee drink has several layers. For a hot and aromatic delicacy, a special Latte Glass was developed.

Often the glass is paired with a small saucer used for dessert.

The shape of the glass can be different, however, there are still certain features.Volume - from 100 to 300 mm. Glasses are made of transparent material so that its contents can be seen. The narrow bottom widens towards the top. For greater practicality, many pieces are supplemented with a handle.

Plastic cups

With the onset of the hot season, the popularity of cocktails with ice cream and milk increases dramatically. This delicious delicacy can be enjoyed not only in cafes and restaurants. It is often sold in portable tents in parks and city squares. In such conditions, it is inconvenient to use glassware and other breakable materials.

Nowadays, many manufacturers of disposable tableware make milkshake glasses out of plastic.

It is a cheap and practical material. To make the drink convenient to carry and consume, milkshakes and fruit shakes are sold in transparent glasses with a lid and a straw. There is a special hole at the top of the lid for a small spoon or tube. Such glasses have a standard shape, slightly expanding upward. The wall thickness can vary.

Paper cups

Another type of disposable tableware for soft drinks and milkshakes is thick paper glasses. The material is processed in such a way that the paper does not sag on contact with liquid. As a rule, the kit comes with a thin plastic cover.
