Recently, even the adult population has increasingly begun to prefer scooters to move around the city streets, while for others this activity has become a hobby. This type of transport is not only a means of transportation, but also a good trainer for legs and keeping fit. In addition, scooter riding helps develop reaction and balance.

Many manufacturers have taken a creative approach to making scooters, which has resulted in interesting models that can be used both for commuting or walking in nature in rough terrain, and for performing complex tricks on special sites. In view of this, buyers began to make special demands on the brakes of this kind of vehicle, taking care of their own safety.

Features of the brake system

Disc brake scooters continue to gain popularity as it became apparent that this system gives almost instant response in emergency applications, guarantees a quick stop of the scooter even at high speed... Hard braking will not expose the rider to the danger of overturning due to the location of the brake on the rear wheel.

On off-road models, some manufacturers have decided to install 2 brakes.

There are 3 types of braking systems.

  1. Mechanical (brake lever connected to the pads with a cable).
  2. Hydraulic (two cylinders with a sleeve filled with oil).
  3. Hybrid (combines the principles of both of these methods).

Consider the most popular - mechanical - type, which we will adjust... To begin with, the handlebar must be in working order (that is, not folded for transport or storage), since the pads press on the disc without pressing the handle. The complexity of this design, which differs from the bicycle design, does not make it possible to comfortably make adjustments without removing the rear fender.

Installing a disc brake

In short, the installation is carried out by mounting the clutch with the connection of the brake disc, cable and adapter to the brake mechanisms, fastening the brake lever.

You need to purchase the disc itself, as well as a cable (2 m long), a brake lever and caps.

For installation, you will need to make a hole for the cable in the rear fender. Then the handle is installed on the steering wheel, and the cable is connected to the brake disc, which is laid along the steering wheel, rack, is threaded into the pipe near the deck and is output to the rear wheel. In this case, the disc itself must be rigidly fixed so that there is no displacement when the cable is pulled. Everything is screwed, the wires are pulled together on the frame with couplings. A cable is inserted into the slot and secured with caps.

The versatility of city scooters

Hand disc brakes are especially relevant in urban types of children's and adult scooters. It is these models that are most popular here because of their versatility. Ease of movement on such vehicles is ensured by a single - basic - deck, wheels of medium diameter and a steering wheel.

The versatility of city scooters is characterized by:

  • the average distance between the front and rear wheels;
  • disc or other type of brakes;
  • average wheel size;
  • the presence of compartments for bags, toys, fasteners for a bottle, rear-view mirrors and bells.

Tightening and tuning

These are completely two different procedures, since in some certain situations it is necessary to tighten the pads to the disc to improve braking, and in others - to make adjustments by adjusting the pads to parallel their surfaces with respect to the disc. The tightening is exactly the setting, since first their parallelism is set, and only then the moment and braking force are adjusted.

There are 2 types of pads in the system: dynamic (movable) and static (fixed).

The first ones carry out movement due to the cable, as a result of which they are connected with the second (fixed). This is how braking occurs.

The external tightening is performed on both sides by tensioning the weakened cable, and the internal tightening is carried out from the wheel with a special hexagon. It should be borne in mind that when adjusting, it is necessary to set the additional tightening unit on the lever to the neutral position (you need to tighten it to the end).

For settings we loosen the mechanism and clamp the handle to the endso that the pads are in the clamped position. Then you need to tighten the bolts. When the caliper is tightened, set the pads in parallel and make a small gap between them and the jacket, setting the setting moment.

City scooter

Consider one popular model of city scooters Scooter Urban. The features of these premium scooters for urban use include lightweight construction and large wheels with a load of up to 100 kg. The manufacturing company has been on the market for over 10 years and currently produces fairly reliable products with excellent design and special equipment.

The scooter is equipped with a disc brake. The mechanism system is maintenance-free.

The presence of shock absorbers on both axles smooths out movement on uneven surfaces, making the ride comfortable.

The handbrake is made in a bicycle style for maximum ease of use of the system. The transport is suitable for both children from 8 years old and for adults due to the height adjustment of the steering wheel. The rider's height range is from 130 to 195 cm. The presence of a transport lever will help to quickly and conveniently unfold or fold the scooter, and the Easy-Fold protection will prevent the formation of backlash in the future.

The weight of the structure is small - 5.2 kg. The diameter of the wheels is 200 mm, they are of high quality and durable, and the rubber has good tread. The practical size of the wheels allows you to perfectly overcome the road with unevenness, and the high-quality ABEC-7 bearings provide good roll. The frame is made in black and white. You can buy it at the moment for 4500 rubles.

Buyers positively note the presence of a disc brake, convenience, laconic design, good roll-forward, smooth movement.

      Scooters with disc brakes have proven themselves well in urban environments, and numerous positive customer reviews confirm this. However, the only drawback is the increase in weight due to the disc braking system.
