Night curtains serve as a decoration of the hall and at the same time perform a protective function, protecting a person from curious onlookers and annoying light. Curtains are the finishing touch to the interior design of the room.

Features and requirements

The cultural heritage of different countries defines their own colors and patterns of materials for decorating window openings:

  • England is a country where it often rains, turning days into gray days, so the population prefers materials with bright large colors that create a rainbow mood;
  • the arrangement of the Scottish-style home is completed by curtains with a checkered pattern, symbolizing the masculine principle, which means stability and balance;
  • the interior in oriental style involves decorating the living room with heavy fabrics intertwined with gold threads and fabulous patterns.

    There are requirements that are considered common when decorating the interior of all types of living rooms.

    1. Night curtains for the hall require the selection of appropriate mounts. For example, for living rooms with low ceilings, ceiling cornices are better suited, visually increasing the height of the room.
    2. For the decoration of windows facing south and east, we use fabrics that transmit less light and are resistant to ultraviolet rays.
    3. For a large living room, complex structures made of expensive material, complemented by lambrequins, are more suitable. In a small room, it is better to hang light curtains made of simple material - they will create an atmosphere of coziness in the room and visually increase the space.
    4. Curtains should be in harmony with furniture, curtain rods, wallpaper.

    Varieties

    For living rooms with ceiling cornices, the following curtains are used:

    • single-layer;
    • double;
    • multilayer;
    • curtains with a lambrequin.

    The use of ceiling cornices provides for practicality and restraint.

    Materials and color

    Before purchasing curtains for the hall, you should pay attention to the natural illumination of the room. For a dark room, light fabrics of light colors are suitable, and, conversely, in a living room with windows to the south, it is better to hang curtains made of opaque material.

    When choosing the style of curtains, the size of the room should be taken into account. A large Scottish cage looks great in a large living room with plain walls, curtains with a small cage pattern will boldly fit into the interior of a small hall with light wallpaper. Living rooms in a modern style allow you to experiment with different types of curtains.

    The creation of coziness in the room largely depends on the correct choice of material from which the curtains are sewn.

    • Lungs. These are fabrics of soft colors with an unobtrusive pattern (cotton, linen, silk, plain with a printed pattern, muslin, lace fabric).

    They harmonize with any living room environment and visually expand the space.

    • Heavy... Materials of rich texture and traditional colors. These include tapestry fabric, as well as brocade, thick wool with a gold pattern, thick silk (curtains let in little light and create a majestic twilight in the room).
    • Smooth. These are fabrics of noble colors with textured patterns that are not striking. They bring elegance and sophistication to the interior.
    • Patterned. These are curtains with floral arrangements, checked or striped. Give the living room a rustic feel and simplicity.
      • Bright. These are fabrics with flashy contrast patterns. They are ideal for the side option, look good on large windows in large living rooms.

      Mounting options

      Ceiling cornices are used to visually increase the height of the room, as well as in cases where the height of the window frames is almost flush with the ceiling. There are two types of ceiling cornices: string and rail.

      String

      It looks like a string on which solid metal hooks are located. The tension of the wire is regulated by two mechanisms fixed to the ceiling on the sides of the window for the entire width of the wall. The curtains run well and are not dangerous for children.

      Rail (metal)

      It resembles a railroad rail in shape and has two tracks. Projections pass between the tracks, which are gripped on both sides by plastic hooks that slide along the projection. The metal structure is supported by two fasteners on the ceiling on the sides of the window, the rail can be prefabricated (depending on the width of the window). The cornice is not safe for children, as the prefabricated structure can decompose from sudden movements during operation.

      Rail (plastic)

      Plastic multi-row eaves-rails are attached with screws directly to the ceiling and are considered the safest and most popular. The modern design of the cornice provides additional paths for lambrequins. To hold the curtains, plastic hooks with latches are used to limit the hinges from jumping off.

      Currently, plastic and metal curtain rails with runners are on sale. If it becomes necessary to hang curtains in front of the window opening, the plank can be fixed to the ceiling with screws. All types of rail curtain rods have a similar principle of operation of mechanisms.

      Selection recommendations

      Currently, the population is in great demand for such design novelties as multilayer curtains with a tie (lambrequin)suitable for a classic-style living room. A multi-row ceiling cornice-rail can serve as a holder for such curtains - its use increases the height of the curtains, giving the room a solemn look.

      A fixed curtain made of transparent material looks good on a wire ceiling cornice. Also, string cornice is an ideal solution when decorating a giant window up to the middle. The wire is located on top of the crossbar dividing the window in half, and is not visible to the eye.

      This type of cornice provides for the use of lightweight fabrics that do not create sagging.

      Curtain rails are suitable for a small living room. They merge with the interior without creating unnecessary problems for the arrangement. For such a curtain rod, it is better to use smooth plain fabrics in contrasting colors using various combinations.

      A flat cornice-rail is required for a window with frames to the ceiling. In this case, floral curtains can be a good option. The combination of modern and classic rustic styles brings warmth and solemnity to the room.
