A small bedroom can be beautiful, stylish and cozy. A small square of the area is not a reason to abandon the conceived design, rather, on the contrary. A bedroom area, for example, 13 square meters can allow not to clutter up the space, but to make it stylish and functional.

Features of the layout

Bedroom of 13 sq. m can be a place for rest and sleep, or also perform the function of a living room, if, for example, another room in the apartment is made for a nursery. It is good if such a bedroom has a balcony (3-6 meters), with which you can significantly expand the space or make additional storage space. But first things first.

So, if we have an ordinary bedroom intended only for sleeping, then the first thing before renovation is to pay attention to its shape. A rectangular room will be the best option as it can accommodate more useful furniture. It is easy to "overload" a square bedroom with objects and furniture, so you should carefully think over the arrangement even before the start of the renovation.

The first step is to decide the color scheme of the room. Small spaces need light colors and small accents. For example, the main wall, where the head of the bed will be located, can be accent and bright, the rest of the walls should be neutral. Light sources - a chandelier, a lamp, a table lamp will also serve as accessories.

And you can also hang a large interesting picture in a modern frame or just on canvas over the headboard.

The decision to make the room multifunctional is becoming popular: to turn it into a bedroom-living room, especially if the whole apartment is small, for example, a two-room apartment. In this case, the room should be properly zoned.

  • A room of 13 squares can be divided into 2 zones: in fact, a bedroom with a sleeping place and a guest corner with a TV, a small table and a sofa. This can be done using a screen, thick curtains or a partition.
  • You can use transformable furniture. For example, a bed that is put into the closet after sleep and unfolded only before rest.
  • Install not a bed, but a large corner sofa bed. Then there will be enough space in the room for a full-fledged wardrobe and a table.

There are quite a few options for living rooms, the main thing is to correctly zone the room and not clutter it up with unnecessary furniture and accessories.

A bedroom with a balcony is a great option for a variety of projects. The balcony can be insulated and glazed, the doors and the window leading to it can be removed. In this case, you will get a separate recreation area. Or, you can make a dressing room from the loggia by placing 1-2 wardrobes there and removing all unnecessary. Just do not turn the balcony in the bedroom into a warehouse of unnecessary things, so as not to lose additional usable space and usable area.

Style solutions

When it comes to design, style boundaries are blurring today, giving designers a huge amount of room to make decisions. Echoes of fashionable Scandinavian style are mixed with classics or hi-tech, African style is muted by modernity. Provence, classic, modern are also popular.

For example, you can decorate the walls in a plain light color, take a massive wooden bed, natural fabrics for textiles, a large but laconic ethnic print. In this case, the Scandinavian style is mixed with ethnicity. At the same time, lamps and chandeliers can be modern in the style of minimalism, so as not to stand out, but also not to look foreign.

Provence is a great solution for a small bedroom with a dressing room. Light colors, light floral motifs, light wooden furniture (only without carved details). In Provence, the bed can also be forged, but not bulky.

The dressing room is decorated with simple shelves, a large mirror in the frame. Several miniature flower pots, cotton textiles, paintings in white wooden frames - these accents will complement the interior.

A modern stylish bedroom is cozy shades, contrasting details, a maximum of natural materials. For wall decoration, you can use high-quality plain wallpaper, water-based paint, natural wood or laminate inserts. Most often, in a small room, one wall is accentuated, for example, the one where the head of the bed is located. It can be decorated with wallpaper with a large geometric pattern, boards or laminate, decorative mosaic of boards, contrasting paint.

Today, you may not follow a certain style, but the whole environment in the room should be organic, where all the details complement each other, and not look scattered.

Color spectrum

As for the shades, in the interior today, designers prefer calm tones and bright accents. Shades of gray, beige and blue are still relevant. A beautiful olive color in combination with dark yellow, aqua and lemon-colored accents looks interesting. White for the interior is beyond competition, it can be combined with any juicy or pastel shade. It is better to forget the combination of wenge and beige. Such colors and alliances are no longer in vogue. If you love wood, then let it be a natural noble and expensive shade without redness - oak, gray oak, cold walnut.

The combinations of blue and pink, fuchsia and yellow, green and orange have also sunk into oblivion. Such "gouge out" shades in the bedroom are not only unacceptable, but also not fashionable. If you want bright colors, you can add color accents with accessories - pillow covers, a blanket or bedspread, a painting on canvas. In a small room, avoid a lot of different colors. It is better to choose one primary color for the interior and a couple of contrasting ones for details and accessories.

Finishing

With a wide variety of materials, it becomes difficult to choose one. However, for the interior to look solid and complete, the finishes and materials must be the same in all rooms. The ceiling today can be done in several ways.

  • Align and paint.
  • Make a stretch ceiling (matte white, not glossy and certainly not colored).
  • Suspended, but without plasterboard structures.

The walls are necessarily leveled, then either painted with water-based paint, or wallpaper is glued to them. Which one to choose depends on your budget and preferences. Designers say no to decorative plaster, 3D wallpaper, cheap foam moldings and tiles.

The floors in the bedroom can be laminate, as in the entire apartment, or you can lay carpet. More options: parquet plus carpet, laminate plus carpet.

Organization of lighting

Light is an integral part of any home. If you are used to getting up with the first rays of the sun, then when decorating the window, you can choose light curtains and tulle. But there are situations when the light from the window in the bedroom is not needed, for example, when you want to sleep longer or when you put your child to bed. Then blackout curtains will come to the rescue. They reliably block the light, leaving the room in twilight.

As for artificial lighting, its choice is also important. The bedroom must have at least 2 light sources - a chandelier and a lamp (night light). The chandelier is usually installed in the middle of the ceiling. Its style depends on the overall style of the room chosen. It should be borne in mind that in small rooms up to 15 sq. m, you do not need to choose voluminous and huge chandeliers, this will "eat up" the entire space and make the room visually heavy.

You can install a spot light without a chandelier. Choose the most simple and inconspicuous spotlights, regardless of the style of the bedroom. As for the night light, it is usually installed on a bedside table. If there is no cabinet, then the lamp can be hung next to the bed so that you can reach it without getting out of bed.

The lighting for the bedroom is matched to the interior. If this is Provence, then simple lamps with forged or wooden parts will do. For a modern minimalist interior, you can choose lamps of an original form, for example, in an industrial style.

Furniture selection

In a small bedroom, there should be a minimum of furniture, only the most necessary: a bed, cabinets, a wardrobe. Depending on the layout, the availability of certain items may vary. For example, if the bedroom is divided into zones and looks like a living room bedroom, then it needs a small sofa or armchairs for guests, as well as a small coffee table. If the bedroom is with a dressing room, then the closet should be abandoned in favor of saving space. All clothes will be placed in the dressing room, and a chest of drawers can become additional storage space, which will also serve as an excellent TV shelf. You can place interior accessories, photos in stylish frames on it.

If space does not allow, then bedside tables can be omitted. The fixtures will feel great on the wall near the headboard. If the room still needs a wardrobe, then the designers propose the following solution: make built-in wardrobes on both sides of the bed, and put closed drawers and open shelves on top.

Textiles and decor elements

Bedroom textiles are just as important as anything else. It includes curtains and tulles, pillows, blankets, bedspreads and throws, upholstery of chairs and banquets. You need to choose textiles after the renovation in the room has been completely completed and the style has been determined. For example, for a Provence-style bedroom you need light curtains and tulles with a subtle floral pattern, linen bedspreads in delicate shades... The bedroom interior looks interesting in calm neutral colors, but with a bright spot on the bed in the form of decorative pillows. Moreover, the rest of the textiles should also be neutral and monochromatic.

Carpets are also part of textiles. You can choose a plain carpet, calm in tone, or a small carpet with an original fashionable pattern (geometry, ethnicity).

Alternatively, you can select two small, free-form, dense pile rugs and place them on the floor on either side of the bed.
