Even the most expensive interior can be ruined by improperly selected curtains. Therefore, you should devote a little more time to decorating the window in the bedroom than is usually required, but the ideal result will delight you every day.

General rules

The bedroom is the place where you relax, gain strength and spend quiet, cozy evenings with your soul mate. The whole atmosphere in the room should be accompanied by coziness and relaxation, therefore the interior and decoration of the room are especially important here. Decoration, textiles, furniture - everything should be combined with each other, not "cut" the eyes. This also applies to window decoration in an apartment or house. If the room is rectangular, standard, measuring 13-20 sq. m, then, as a rule, the window in it is standard rectangular, with a window sill and slopes.

If the window sill is not used as a table or bench (at a low height), then it can be decorated with light tulle and blackout curtains in the classical way. There are only a few nuances to consider:

  • choose tulle without glitter, matte, solid color with or without a barely noticeable print;
  • curtains can be light or dense (blackout), the latter are designed to completely block out daylight to darken the room during daytime sleep or in the morning;
  • fabric for curtains should be of high quality, non-synthetic, without cheap shine, solid-colored curtains of good length with a margin are in fashion.

If the room has a balcony, then as a window decoration, you can use not curtains, but a light gauze. This will allow enough daylight into the room, which, if desired, can be blocked by curtains or blinds on the balcony (if it is glazed). If the balcony is not glazed, then it makes sense to hang traditional blackout curtains in combination with tulle.

Color solutions

To choose the right color for curtains, you need to follow several principles.

  • The shade of the textiles is selected depending on the rest of the decoration of the room. If the room is small, then the color of the curtains can be in tune with the walls, or a tone lighter or darker. This will help visually expand the space.
  • The curtains can be accentuated. If the entire room is decorated in calm neutral colors, then the window can be a bright spot, especially if the room is large enough.
  • If there are several windows in the bedroom (2-3 or more), then it makes sense to arrange them in a contrasting way in order to "break" the wall into segments. But the tone of the textiles should be from the same color scheme as the room. For example, light gray cold walls and light blue cold curtains.
  • To unite the interior of the room into one whole, especially the area of more than 25 squares, you should arrange the window so as to "tie" the walls. In this case, the color of the curtains is matched to the existing shade, for example, the textiles on the bed and the curtains can be of the same material and the same color.

Avoid shades of curtains that are too bright, so that textiles do not "cut" the eyes. Beautiful deep shades are in fashion (olive, dusty lilac or purple, gray, blue, aqua, berry, etc.).

Choice of curtains

There are quite a few types of curtains, some of them quickly become irrelevant, and some remain in fashion forever. For example, classic long curtains, consisting of two wide canvases on rings or invisible hooks. Due to their large width, they can be beautifully draped on both sides of the window.

These curtains are usually hung complete with light tulle. French curtains are rarely used today, as they look the most harmonious. on tall windows in baroque or classicism style. They represent a large cloth of fabric, divided into symmetrical sectors by vertical braid.

A cord is passed through it, and then the curtain is assembled into scallops. Such curtains are most often seen in the luxurious royal chambers. They are unlikely to be suitable for an ordinary apartment or a modern house.

Crossed curtains are two canvases attached to opposite ends of the cornice. Can be completed with hooks and tulle. They look beautiful and rich, they are suitable for a classic bedroom interior.

Japanese curtains Is another fashion trend. They are rigid strips of fabric attached to a frame. Usually there are several of them, they move along the width of the window, but are not adjustable in height (when buying, you should choose the desired length). Such curtains perfectly block light and look fresh in a modern interior.

In a room with an exit to the balcony, instead of the usual curtains, you can hang thread curtains. The window will look complete and harmonious, while the exit to the balcony will not be difficult.

Roman curtains - a good option for a bedroom above the first floor. A canvas of dense or medium density fabric along the width of the window is folded upward thanks to inserts in narrow horizontal pockets on the canvas and a special cornice with a lifting mechanism. You can raise the curtain using a drawstring that needs to be pulled down. Looks good in a minimalist interior.

Design options

There are a lot of options for decorating window curtains, but the first thing you need to pay attention to is the window itself. It can be standard, with an exit to the balcony, corner, to the floor, etc. The future design of curtains also depends on the design of the window. A window with an exit to the balcony can be decorated using the following options.

  • The usual classic long curtains on both sides and tulle. In this case, the tulle must be hung so that the entrance to the balcony is not difficult.
  • Hang one long curtain on the side of the balcony door, decorate the top of the cornice with a lambrequin along its entire length, and decorate the window with short curtains with a cornice in the middle of the window.
  • Roman roller blinds are also a great option for a window with a door. The long canvas should be hung on the door, and the short one should be hung on the window.

Corner window constructions with a beautiful panoramic view do not drape too much. You can hang ordinary long curtains on both sides of the window on different walls in order to completely close the window with curtains if desired. In this case, the edges of the curtains converge just in the corner. In this case, you can not hang the tulle, or, on the contrary, you can do only with it if the apartment is on a high floor and not on the sunny side.

If the bedroom is located in your house and has several windows of different sizes, for example, one large and two small, then you can decorate them with roller blinds made of beautiful matting fabric. Wicker accessories, natural wood furniture will support a harmonious interior.

Panoramic windows in an apartment or house look very stylish, especially if there is a picturesque view outside the window. It is best to decorate large windows with simple but high-quality translucent matte floor-length textiles. Such curtains or tulle should lie softly on the floor and form beautiful folds along the entire width. If desired, such windows can be additionally closed with built-in horizontal blinds. Tulle or light curtains in this case should be without a print or with a barely noticeable pattern to match the fabric.

Additional decor elements

Ordinary curtains can be interestingly decorated so that the window does not look boring. For example, use beautiful garters for curtains (with flowers, stones, tassels, from a thick cord, etc.). Another decor option is to hang long threads with stones, beads or beads on the cornice. An alternative to such threads is a mesh with small thin metal plates. They can be hung on their own or in combination with plain curtains.

What designers are not advised to use today is ruffles, lace lambrequins, lace, frills, hard carved lambrequins. Such decor has long been out of fashion and looks cheap. The windows themselves can be decorated with decorative stickers. Stained-glass windows with colored inserts look beautiful.

At the same time, the window decoration with curtains should be simple, it is better to choose one-color and discreet textiles.

How to functionally organize the space?

The space around the window should not be wasted - the space can be functionally used. Most often, the window area in the bedroom is limited by the window sill. Unnecessary things, books or flowers are stored on it. But you can not stop there and arrange the space around with bookshelves, closed cabinets or open shelves, put a desk or make a couch.

Built-in wardrobes are a great solution for any bedroom size... In a small room, cabinets will help solve the problem with the storage system, in a large room - to harmoniously arrange furniture and things. Having decided to equip the area around the window, you should first decide what to do with the heating battery.

There are several ways.

  • Make a drywall box and cover the battery with a decorative grill. Then, on the sides of the window, put shelves or cabinets from floor to ceiling.
  • Install a large table with two pedestals instead of a window sill. The battery will remain under the table and will not be visible.

Cabinets on both sides of the window can be closed, for example, with glass doors, or they can be closed with curtains. The option looks stylish when the cabinets are open, and the window is decorated with a Roman blind. This option for arranging the area around the window is suitable for both a nursery and an adult bedroom, as well as for an office. Moreover, the area of the premises can be from 15 to 18 square meters. If the window is large and the window sill is low from the floor, then you can make an excellent couch instead.

The window sill needs to be removed, a box for a plasterboard battery and a large wide surface should be made, on which a soft thick featherbed with upholstery to match the rest of the textiles in the bedroom is then laid.

Successful examples in the interior

There are many good ideas for decorating any windows in the bedroom - from standard to corner and panoramic. For example, an ordinary window in a small bedroom can be decorated simply but stylishly: light tulle without a milky pattern, long textile curtains with a small geometric print. A bedspread can be made of the same fabric. This is how complete harmony in the interior will be achieved.

Panoramic windows in a large spacious bedroom require special attention. The interior looks interesting in a classic style in light colors. Here, large floor-to-ceiling windows are decorated with dense, heavy curtains of light color, which are beautifully draped, picked up in an unusual way and decorated with a discreet lambrequin.

Corner windows in the house are always beautiful. If the bedroom has a sufficient area, then you can arrange such windows as in the photo: the window closest to the decorative wall is decorated with Japanese curtains and beautiful curtains of a single color. The corner window remains open and lets in a lot of daylight, but if desired, it can be covered with tulle, which is located on the third window. A great example of a modern, laconic and stylish interior.
