Footer combines the best qualities of natural fabrics. This material with a smooth surface and a soft seamy side almost does not wrinkle, retains its appearance even after repeated washings. This fabric is used for sewing children's, adult and even informal clothes, which are comfortable. To ensure that footer clothes retain their original appearance and shape, polymer fibers, such as lycra, are added to the fabric.

Material description

Footer is a variant of knitwear, which is made on special equipment. The main difference is that two threads are used for its production, one of which creates a smooth base, and the other - a soft fleece. But there is also a one-strand lining, which is based exclusively on cotton fibers, and a three-strand one, which contains up to 20% of artificial additives.

The composition of the first lining cloths consisted exclusively of cotton fibers, but then to increase wear resistance and improve the appearance of the material, other fibers were added to the composition.

  • Synthetic (polyester, lycra) - improve the elasticity and appearance of the material. Such fabric is used to sew women's dressing gowns, skirts, sweaters, tracksuits and so on.
  • Wool - makes the material warmer, but after washing it can significantly "shrink". The fabric is rather coarse and is suitable for outerwear (coats, jackets, etc.).

From a footer without additives, they usually sew clothes for newborns (romper, hats, undershirts and others). These clothes are also suitable for people prone to skin allergies.

The double strand liner is made from cotton fibers.These fibers are obtained from cotton, the fruits of which are filled with soft, fluffy threads. The fruits are picked by hand or using combines, then they go through a process of cleaning from seeds and impurities, sorted according to the length of the fibers, pressed, and as a result, yarn is obtained, which is used for making fabrics.

The special structure of the footer is obtained by weaving two different types of threads:

  • smooth and strong for the base;
  • soft and fluffy, slightly curled.

In order for things to retain their original appearance longer and not deform, synthetic threads are present in the composition. The special weave allows you to get a strong and elastic fabric at the same time.

    The back fleece comes in long and short fibers, which affects the density and softness of the fabric. The density of the footer is from 170 to 350 g / m2.

    The composition may include:

    • lycra;
    • wool;
    • viscose;
    • polyester.

    The thickness of the threads and the percentage of additives affect the density of the material, but among the general properties are:

    • softness;
    • strength;
    • excellent air permeability and heat retention;
    • does not hinder movement;
    • does not require special care;
    • affordable price.

    Lycra stands out among all synthetic additives for footer, the percentage of which can be from 2 to 20%. Even a small amount of this fiber makes the lining fabric elastic, prevents the product from stretching during wear, and also gives a good fit to the silhouette. Footer with additives of no more than 5% retains all the advantages of natural fabrics and does not provoke skin irritation.

    A large amount of synthetic fibers is used mainly for the production of clothing that does not come into contact with the skin (sweatshirts, cardigans, etc.).

    Artificial additives in tissues almost always cause negative attitudes among consumers. But elastic threads in natural fabrics improve the quality of the material and extend the life of the product. Products made of pure cotton during wear can puff up, poorly fit the figure, the seams on the products are thick, and things wear out quickly. But the addition of lycra eliminates the shortcomings of the material, it stretches well, while retaining its original shape and appearance.

    Elastic and durable jersey. Products made from this fabric fit well to the figure, highlight advantages and hide flaws, the material absorbs moisture well and retains heat.

    The fabric is made on knitting machines using a special technology, according to which threads are knitted from the inside out into the main fabric. This knitting method allows you to get a soft and durable brushed fabric. Lycra is added to one of the yarns during knitting, resulting in a durable stretch fabric. Even a small percentage of Lycra will significantly alter the appearance of the fabric.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    What is the advantage of the lining cloth:

    • environmental friendliness and hypoallergenicity - pure cotton with a minimum amount of lycra, which does not belong to allergens, practically does not cause allergic reactions even in those prone to allergies;
    • warm - natural fibers and good fleece on the seamy side allow you to keep warm as much as possible, while not creating a "greenhouse" effect;
    • stretches well - jersey easily takes the shape of the body and does not hinder movement, it is this quality that made the footer the most common material for sewing clothes for young children;
    • good moisture absorption - the fabric wicks moisture away from the body, preventing cooling;
    • easy care - the material tolerates washing well in a washing machine.

      The disadvantages of the footer include:

      • at high temperatures, the fabric can be deformed - it is undesirable to wash products from the footer in hot water or dry on batteries;
      • does not withstand direct sunlight.

      The advantageous difference between the footer and other types of natural cotton fabrics is that this material practically does not wrinkle.

      Types of fabric

      There are several types of footer, which differ in consumer characteristics (number of threads, strength, etc.).

      • Single strand - Thin material made of natural fibers, with a soft back, it is mainly suitable for sewing clothes for children.
      • Two-strand - fabric with the addition of synthetic threads, most often lycra, with a fleece on the seamy side. It is a denser material with coarse pile on the wrong side. Such a fabric is suitable for sewing clothes for home and sports, pajamas, golf, as well as a two-thread can be used as a lining.
      • Three-thread - very durable fabric, which consists of three intertwined threads and contains up to 20% synthetic impurities. The thickest material of all, with a thick pile on the wrong side, it may contain wool. It can be used to sew outerwear, insulated suits, and even sleeping bags.

      Use cases

      Many useful and beautiful things can be sewn from the footer:

      • clothes for children - bodysuits, blouses, suits for the little ones, whose skin needs special care, are made from soft and warm material, as well as frequent washing does not spoil the appearance of the product, which is important for children's clothing;
      • clothes for everyday life;
      • linens;
      • home clothes, pajamas, dressing gowns;
      • tracksuits;
      • insulated underwear.

      How to take care of your clothes?

      Footer 2-thread with lycra is a durable and easy-care material, but if you take proper care of the product, it will allow you to keep its appearance longer.

      The rules for caring for the footer are simple:

      • fasten the product before washing, turn it inside out; it is recommended to wash things with fittings in a special bag;
      • wash at a temperature of 30-400 ° C, preferably on a delicate cycle;
      • use special detergents to preserve color;
      • do not use bleaches;
      • it is not recommended to use an automatic dryer;
      • do not dry in the open sun;
      • iron on the wrong side using the "Synthetics" mode.

      Reviews

      Parents note that children's clothes made of this material are distinguished not only by their beautiful appearance, but also by their quality. In such clothes, the child does not freeze and does not sweat. And also things do not wear out for a long time, despite frequent washing.

      A significant plus is the relatively low price of footer items. Children grow up very quickly, and new clothes have to be bought quite often.

                Adults, especially lovers of an active lifestyle, did not remain indifferent to footer products. Athletes note such a property of the footer as elasticity, the ability to absorb moisture, keep warm and withstand heavy loads.

                And those who use their footer clothes in everyday life are attracted by the beautiful appearance and quality of products that do not stretch and remain "like new" even after long-term use.
