For a modern person, a bath is not just a place for hygiene procedures, but also a spa at home. A place to relax and unwind. It is not surprising that with the popularity of shower cabins, most people still do not give up a bath in the bathroom. Installing an asymmetric bathtub will help to give the interior an original look.

Peculiarities

The main feature of the asymmetrical bathtub is, of course, the shape of the bowl. Rectangular fonts are considered standard, while angular, trapezoidal, oval and round products, as well as bathtubs of complex and unimaginable shapes, are considered asymmetric.

Undoubtedly, an asymmetric bathtub will add zest to the bathroom and make the interior more unique.

It should be understood that not every material, due to its plasticity, can be suitable for the manufacture of asymmetric bowls. Most often, the market is represented by acrylic products, which combine the balance of quality and price.

Advantages and disadvantages

Asymmetric baths are usually chosen in two cases - when you need to save space (an option for small bathrooms) and, conversely, when the bathroom area allows you to choose an unusual bowl option.

Thus, the advantages of these products are the ability to make the room more original, unusual, as well as saving room space. Such a bowl can be made to order, which will make the interior of the bathroom even more attractive.

At the same time, it should be understood that an asymmetric bath in most cases is inferior in volume to a bowl of the usual rectangular shape.

That is, they may be the same in size, but the asymmetrical bowl will hold less water.

Not every bath can be asymmetrical. For example, cast iron products are difficult to process, so cast iron baths cannot surprise with a variety of shapes. Finally, asymmetric bowls are usually more expensive than standard counterparts.

Varieties

The asymmetry can be different. The most popular option is corner asymmetric baths, which are compact when placed, but rather spacious in volume. It can be either a rather small product with a side length of 150 cm, or a more voluminous one with a side of a bowl 200 cm.

Corner models are right-handed - they are placed in the corner on the right side of the bathroom - and left-handed (respectively, they are installed on the left side of the bathroom).

Asymmetric bowls are also common. in the form of a trapezoid. Such models have the form of a 5-sided trapezoid, 3 of which are straight angles. That is, the bathtub has 4 equal straight sides, while the fifth side is usually made more rounded. Such a bath requires more space for placement than a corner bath.

Elegance and special luxury possesses oval bath. It looks good both against the wall of the bathroom and in the center of the room. However, in any case, it takes up quite a lot of space.

These tubs are formed by two sides that form a right angle.

With this corner, the bath is installed in one of the corners of the bathroom. The third side can be straight or round.

Differences may also apply to the presence of additional functions in the bath. One of the popular options is hydromassage (massage with water flow). And also baths with air massage (air bubbles provide a massage effect), chromotherapy (changing water illumination). Asymmetric bathtubs can also be equipped with seats, armrests and headrests for one or two users).

Materials (edit)

All baths (regardless of shape and size) are made of different materials.

Acrylic

One of the most popular materials, characterized by durability (service life - 20-25 years), attractive appearance, affordable price.

Acrylic baths made by casting are considered to be of higher quality. Variants made using extrusion technology are inferior to them in their reliability and hygiene (in many European countries such baths are prohibited).

Finally, there are bathtubs made of ABS plastic, which are only covered with acrylic on the front side. Such products are not intended for frequent use, and are suitable, for example, only for installation in the country.

The advantages of acrylic products are their light weight, low thermal conductivity (water in such a bowl cools slowly), self-cleaning effect (acrylic surface is smooth, has no pores into which dirt would eat). Acrylic bathtubs can be of any shape and size.

Kvaril

Often, such baths are not singled out as a separate group, but are considered a subspecies of acrylic products. This is due to the fact that kvaril is a material based on modified acrylic and quartz. This provides the finished product with increased strength and longer service life, improved aesthetic and performance characteristics. Like acrylic, kvaril bends well, therefore the bowl can be of any shape.

Cast iron

Asymmetric cast iron bathtubs are a rare phenomenon. This is due to the fact that the material is unable to take any shape, and therefore asymmetric options are rather exclusive. The price for such models will be higher than average.

It is worth noting the long service life of cast iron, such a product can serve up to 50-70 years. Cast iron has even lower thermal conductivity than acrylic, and therefore the cooling of water in such an often will be even slower.

Unlike acrylic, cast iron surfaces are more durable and resistant to mechanical damage. When collecting water, the material does not make noise (this is the competitive advantage of cast iron over steel options).

Of the "minuses" - the large weight of the product, considerable cost.

Steel

Steel asymmetric baths on sale can be found more often than cast iron. However, in terms of their popularity, they are still inferior to acrylic models. Steel is easy to process, so there are no problems with shaping the bowl, even the most unusual shapes. However, the service life of such a product will not exceed 12-15 years. The weak point of such models, as a rule, is the enamel coating, which cracks and peels off.

Steel baths are light, but they make noise and vibrate when water is collected. In addition, they have low thermal conductivity, and therefore the water in such a bowl cools down quickly. Reduce noise and vibration, and improve the thermal insulation performance of the steel bath helps treatment of the lower part of the bath with special heat-insulating materials.

Stone

Stone models are always exclusive, which means they are quite expensive products. The base is an artificial stone, which is more affordable and lighter than natural stone. The use of natural stone also has to be abandoned due to the background radiation it has, low hygiene (this is a porous material).

Dimensions (edit)

All existing sizes of asymmetric bathtubs can be reduced to one of the groups.

Small-sized

The length of the bowl is 120-130 cm, such products are intended for small premises. Among the popular models of small-sized bowls, 140x70 cm options are especially popular (there is a smaller option - 130x70 cm).

For "Khrushchevs", you can recommend bowls, the size of which is 140x90 cm or 150x70 cm. The smallest size is 90x90 cm and 100x100 cm. These are compact but comfortable products. Bowls with a side length of less than 90 cm in most cases are not as functional and comfortable.

If a trapezium bowl is chosen for a small room, then usually it has a length and width of 120x70 cm, 120x90 cm, 130x90 cm, 130x80 or 135x90 cm. As a rule, with the correct arrangement of plumbing and furniture, bowls of these sizes fit even in Khrushchevs.

Standard

The bowls are 150-160 cm long, they are more voluminous. However, they are suitable for installation in most typical apartments. The shape of such products is in most cases angular or close to oval. Baths are considered standard in sizes 150x80 cm, 150x75 cm, 140x100 cm, 160x70 cm, 160x80 cm, 160x90 cm and 160x100 cm.

When choosing a size, it is better to focus on the dimensions of the room., since when using bowls measuring 140x80 cm and 150x90 cm, they practically do not differ, however, because of these 10 cm, using the room as a whole may become inconvenient.

Oversized

The length of the bowl of such a product is 170-190 cm, and the shape can be absolutely any. Suitable for installation in large premises, usually private houses. It can be both rather small among large-sized bowls - 170x75 (some manufacturers do not have bathtubs of this size, but offer a version of 170x80 cm), 180x80, 190x90 cm, and real "pools" measuring 170x100 and even 170x170 cm.

Bowls measuring 170x110 cm and those close to this fit into most bathrooms, even standard apartments. Larger font sizes usually require installation in private houses.

If we are talking about a trapezoid or, more often, a complex shape for large rooms, many choose fonts measuring 180x80 cm or 180x100 cm.It is convenient for even a tall adult to lie in them, while the width of the bath is also optimal for comfortable placement, but the product does not take up much space.

Speaking about the differences between baths, it is worth mentioning the possible depths of the bowl. In most cases, this is a depth of 47-49 cm. European models often have a depth of 50 cm. And there are also bowls with a depth of 42-45 cm, they are usually installed in a house where elderly people live.

Often, exclusive models of unusual shapes are equipped with graceful legs, which looks especially beautiful on oval bowls.

In addition, the bathtub can be placed directly on the floor or mounted on a special stand.

Manufacturers

Consider the most popular brands that include asymmetric bathtubs.

Pucsho

German premium brand. The main direction of production is cast-iron baths, and therefore most of the products are standard "rectangles". However, we can cite as an example the asymmetric bathtub model 2017. The silhouette is close to the classic rectangular one, but one of the long sides is more rounded. The product has an exquisite shape, instead of legs - wooden supports with moisture resistant impregnation. Available in one size 170x70 cm.

Roca

One of the best manufacturers of sanitary ware, including asymmetric bathtubs. The main products are acrylic baths, although there are also rulers with cast iron bowls. The collection includes about 200 models of asymmetric bowls, characterized by stylish design and the highest quality. The manufacturer gives a 10-year warranty for its products. It is important to buy products from a reputable specialty store and require quality certificates from the seller, since it is this brand that is most often counterfeited.

Ravak

The products of this Czech brand are not much inferior to the plumbing described above, but at the same time they are an order of magnitude cheaper. In combination with durability, variety of design, this ensured the popularity of the products with buyers. The disadvantage can be called the fact that often the components of the bowl have to be paid separately.

Cersanit

The brand is sometimes mistakenly called domestic, but it is more correct to speak of a joint Polish-Romanian-Russian production. It is characterized by wear resistance, a variety of models, the quality of products meets European standards, but the price is much lower. Of the minuses - the insufficient thickness of the walls of economy class products.

Aquanet

According to expert opinion, this is one of the best domestic manufacturers of asymmetric acrylic bathtubs. The assortment is quite wide, the quality is solid. The exception is very inexpensive models, their walls are too thin.

Kolo

The products of this Polish brand will be appreciated by those who love bathtubs of unusual sizes and colors. The quality will also satisfy both existing standards and the exacting requirements of buyers. The brand appeared relatively recently, did not have time to gain wide popularity. However, the first buyers appreciated the advantages of the products, as well as the affordability of the products. While products from this manufacturer can only be found in specialized stores, if you are looking for products with hydromassage, there are not many of them in the line.

Accommodation options

The advantage of asymmetric models is that there are several options for their placement.

For small typical bathrooms, a corner bowl is usually chosen, which is located against the far wall.

A sink is installed on the other wall, if the bathroom is combined, a toilet, a washing machine.

If the corner bath has different sides, then a longer part of the bath is placed along the long part of the wall, then on the other side there is room for the sink, toilet or washing machine. Usually, trapezium bowls are arranged according to the same principle.

Selection recommendations

First of all, you should decide on the size and shape of the bowl, make sure that the bath fits into the bathroom, it will be convenient and harmonious to be located in it. Be sure to make sure the orientation (and they can be right-handed and left-handed) is right for your space.

Choose products from reputable, reputable manufacturers.

The best products are produced in Germany and Italy. But Chinese products can rarely be called quality.

Pay attention to the wall thickness of the product. It should be at least 5-6 mm. A product with thinner walls will vibrate, may deform, and will last less. It is necessary to knock on the walls of the bath, the sound should be muffled. The walls of the bathtub should not deform when pressed.

If you are purchasing an asymmetric acrylic or cast iron bathtub, make sure they have a secure frame.

Beautiful examples in the interior

A design option for a fairly spacious room. Nevertheless, the storage process is organized very rationally and ergonomically. These are niches above the bathroom, a special stand on the bowl itself. The rounded shape of the bath emphasizes the classic design of the room, adds luxury and bliss to the atmosphere.

An option for placing a bath of a similar shape in a small bathroom. The bathtub is located along the long side, next to it is a hinged sink and a small table. When the interior is supplemented with shelves (for example, a corner stand), towel holders and a mirror, the bathroom will become more comfortable, but it will not lose its functionality.

Another example that a small bathroom is not a reason to refuse to use an asymmetric bowl.

A stylish and cozy space that resembles not a bathroom, but a spa. In fact, with a large amount of free space, such a bath can be located anywhere in the room. The streamlined shape of the bathtub is supported by a rounded pouf, and wood inserts help to add more naturalness and warmth to the interior.

Unusual bowl shape - unusual arrangement in the room. The bathtub here is like an extension of a comfortable and functional cabinet, so its location is not perceived as "wrong". Against the background of gray walls and dark finishes, the bathtub stands out, which further emphasizes its exclusive shape.

A teardrop-shaped bowl, azure tiles on the floor and a transparent insert on the bathtub - all this makes the room not just a bathroom, but as if it transfers it to the seaside. So everything is calm and harmonious in this interior. The combination of crisp white acrylic, chrome plumbing fixtures and black finish make the space even more stylish and elegant.
