A bathroom is a place in which, like nowhere else, you want comfort and warmth, because if there is a feeling of coldness and inconvenience in it, then you will not have to expect any pleasure from taking water procedures. Excessive decor is not needed in it, but functionality is necessary.

One of the main components of a comfortable bathroom is tile, because it retains its properties in conditions of high air humidity.

Black tiles are a modern and stylish solution for bathroom decor. Modern manufacturers offer a large number of design and layout options for tile segments.

Material requirements

Finishing material for bathrooms is a special category of building material, because these rooms have specific microclimatic conditions. There is also a place for a contrast shower - and then the material must withstand the test not only by humidity, but also by temperature changes, and for a hot bath, the steam from which affects the tiles and the joints between it.

There are certain requirements for tiles. Ideal bathroom tiles:

  • does not slip even when wet, thereby minimizing the risk of falling and injury;
  • does not lend itself to the destructive effects of household chemicals, it can be washed without the risk of causing damage;
  • does not absorb moisture and does not swell under its influence, otherwise the segments will lose their original appearance, peel off from the wall;
  • all segments are even, have the same size and shape, they can be used to lay out not only the floor, but also the walls and the surface of the ceiling, if the need arises;
  • has high strength indicators - a strong surface that is not subject to mechanical stress and temperature changes.

Advantages and disadvantages

If we talk about the advantages of exactly black tiles in the bathroom, the following can be distinguished:

  • stylish appearance;
  • ease of care;
  • no need for additional decor, since black is self-sufficient.

    There are also disadvantages, and quite significant.

    • The cost of tiles is high, this applies to products of any manufacturers - both foreign and domestic. The most expensive tiles are made from natural materials - stone, glass, marble. This applies to both hexagonal tiles and mosaics.
    • Installation of tiles will also cost a pretty penny, because the more expensive the tiles are, the higher the likelihood that you will need to contact a specialist to lay them out.
    • If this is not done, the seams are likely to be visible. This does not apply only to the "honeycomb", as their layout presupposes the integrity of the canvas and at the same time the visibility of the joints. It makes sense that the smaller the segments of your tile, the more seams there will be, and the more noticeable they will be.

    When choosing a black tile (as, indeed, any other), you need to consider such designations as anti-slip markings and chemical resistance. Both indicators should be the highest - this means that the tiles are of high quality. For finishing the floor, it is better to stop at tiles that have a rough surface and a matte shade.

    What quality tiles?

    There are a number of signs by which the quality of the tiles can be identified.

    • In appearance. The color must be uniform, otherwise we can talk about the marriage of the product. The surface must be clean, free from chips and scratches.
    • By form. All corners should be the same in the degree of the angle, and the edges of the segments should be equal in length. The slightest deviation means that it will not be easy to lay such tiles, the seams will be uneven.
    • On a plane. If the changes are small, then there is nothing to worry about, small deviations are acceptable. However, the more such deviations, the more difficult it will be to make the surface of the display even. To check the amount of deviation, it is enough to attach two segments to each other and estimate the size of the resulting gaps. If they exceed 1 mm, you should refrain from buying.

    It should also be remembered that the more fashionable you choose, for example, black mosaic, hexagonal honeycomb or glossy black squares with gold plating, the less budget your purchase will be. You should always choose a manufacturer with a high business reputation.

    Shape and size

    Once on the market there was only square tiles, but today the buyer has a lot to choose from. Speaking about only one black design option, we can highlight:

    • square ceramic tiles;
    • rectangular ("hog" or "metro");
    • a hex with six corners;
    • mosaics of different shapes and sizes.

    It has become much easier to decorate any room with tiles due to the fact that each manufacturer produces collections where you can compose the final versions, based on your taste and the properties of the room. Standard bathrooms rarely have a large area, so it will be difficult to lay modules with a 600 mm edge in them. But it is not worth "shallowing" either, especially on the floor - small segments will give a huge number of joints, and the final version will not look aesthetically pleasing.

    It should also be borne in mind that the more textured segments your tile has (for example, imitating quilted fabric), the more it will narrow the space... If the bathroom is already cramped, it is better to choose regular flat ceramics.

    Mosaic displays are very fashionable, they look extremely impressive, like hexagonal honeycombs, from which you can create a composition on the walls and floor. The hexagon will suit even the smallest bathroom (of course, the segments should be of standard size).

    How to properly care for black tiles?

    Despite the fact that black tiles are easy to clean, caring for them takes a significant amount of time. Contrary to popular belief, any contamination, even the smallest, is much more noticeable on a dark surface. Therefore, in order for the bathroom to retain its aesthetic appearance, it is necessary to wash the tiles very often.

    For those who are not ready to constantly clean up, there is an excellent solution: a combination of two colors. Walls or that part of them that are more in contact with water, soap, shampoo and other means can be laid out in white, light gray or beige. And decorate the floor and the lower part of the walls in black in contrast.

    To neutralize the effect of a visual reduction in space when using dark tiles, you can make mirrored ceilings in the bathroom. This will visually increase the height and make the room more voluminous. True, you need to take into account that caring for them is not easy, since they fog up and become cloudy from exposure to steam.

    If you nevertheless decide to make the entire bathroom black, you will have to take care of purchasing special tools that form a film on the modules and can protect them from dust and stains. However, this does not mean that the bathroom will have to be cleaned much less - the constant presence of moisture and steam on the surface will still leave traces and a noticeable limescale.

    For walls, it is better to focus on matte textures. A glossy surface requires many times more effort to maintain cleanliness - if you do not do this regularly, the shine will disappear, and it will not be easy to clean the tiles from plaque.
