The bathroom soap dish is not just a stand for storing bar soap, but also a stylish accessory that harmoniously completes the design of the entire room.

Bar soap remains quite popular - according to independent customer surveys, it is used by about 60% of Russian residents.

Peculiarities

Today, the design and method of mounting soap dishes allows you to choose a convenient and practical model for any style of bathroom.

Soap bars require proper storage between uses, otherwise they will crack or get wet. A dry bar of soap will retain its qualities, pleasant aroma and beautiful shape longer.

The bathroom is a place for putting a person's appearance in order, as well as for a short rest after a hard day, therefore, taking care of a soap dish should be minimal.

You can purchase a separate soap dish or a complete set in the same style with a dispenser for liquid soap and a cup for toothbrushes.

Species overview

Mounts and stands for solid soap are widely represented on the modern market, they have their own characteristics and store this product in different ways.

Modern soap dishes are divided into several types, described below.

  • Wall. Mounts for the soap dish are mounted in the tile. In order for the tile not to crack, you should glue the drilling site with several layers of tape and wait about 1 hour, after which you can safely drill the holes.
  • Suspended. Fastened with metal rings to the edge of the bathtub or sink, as well as to the curtain rod, can be easily removed if necessary.
  • On suction cups. This option is fixed to the side inner surface of the bathtub or sink.Over time, the suction cups can crack, and under the weight of a piece of soap it can not stick well.
  • Combined. Combined soap dish with toothbrush holder or built into the shower rack.
  • Desktop. This option is placed on a horizontal surface without any fasteners. Among such accessories, models with an inclined surface or one inclined wall are popular, along several grooves of which excess water flows and does not stain the horizontal surface of the sink.
  • With magnetic mount. A magnet is mounted in such a design of a soap dish, and a second magnetic plate is inserted into a bar of soap. This allows the soap to hang and dry faster.
  • Soap grater. It is a suspended structure with a spring mechanism (wall-mounted). When pressed, it cuts off the chips from the piece, while the soap remains completely dry. The only negative is that the shavings do not wash well in hard water.
  • Built-in soap dish. These are recesses in the body of a bath or sink. Such soap dishes are often made in the wall of the shower stall. Their main disadvantage is that the moisture does not drain, and the soap becomes limp.

All the described designs of soap dishes can be produced:

  • no bottom - soapy water flows down unhindered and can stain the plumbing;
  • with one bottom - water collects around the soap, the solid piece becomes sour;
  • double bottom - the liquid collects in the pan, leaving the soap dry, while the accumulated moisture should be poured out in a timely manner.

Any soap dish requires care, and which one is easier to care for is up to the owner of the house to decide.

Materials (edit)

  • Metal. The shiny nickel or chrome plated soap dish will adorn any bathroom interior. However, in the event that the water has a high lime content, white streaks and plaque will be provided, which will have to be constantly cleaned off.
  • Ceramics. Beautiful and hygienic, but rather fragile.
  • Strained glass... Durable material. It looks aesthetically pleasing at the beginning of use, but, despite the matte surface, all drops and smudges will be visible on it.
  • Acrylic. Similar to glass, but stronger and more durable.
  • Plastic - it is a light, but short-lived material, quickly gets dirty, however, it is also easy to clean. If the product is cheap or handicraft, then it will give off an unpleasant toxic odor that may not be noticed in the store, but it will clearly manifest itself in a closed bathroom space. Among other things, toxins can enter the interior of a damp bar of soap and cause allergic reactions.
  • Wood - it is an environmentally friendly material, however, beech or cedar products are expensive, and ordinary wood quickly dries up and loses its beauty. Harmful bacteria can develop in cracks.
  • Silicone... It is dust-repellent, waterproof, striking in a variety of shapes and a wide palette of bright colors.
  • Rubber. It is analogous to silicone, but mold can easily grow in it. Over time, such a soap dish will crack.

It is advisable to give preference to soap dishes made of hygienic materials that do not require special care.

Design options

The color and shape should be in harmony with the interior. If the tiles in the bathroom are in warm shades or in bed colors, then it will be appropriate to purchase a soap dish to match - bright colors will not work.

When choosing a design for a soap dish, you should take into account some of the nuances.

  • The style of the bathroom and existing accessories. Soap dishes in a restrained style, delicate bedding shades and classic shapes: oval or round are suitable for a classic interior. For high-tech style, you can pick up chrome stands and mounts of unusual shapes.
  • The size. For a small bathroom, you can choose compact models. In a spacious bathroom with a window, an elegant large soap dish in the form of a shell or a palm leaf will look perfect.
  • Functionality. The soap dish should prevent the solid soap bar from deoxidizing and should not be cleaned frequently.

The combination of colors should also be taken into account. For example, yellow goes well with blue, but quickly tires the eye. It is better to use such an ensemble in clothes than in a bathroom.

How to choose?

Buying a soap dish is not so easy. When choosing, one should consider quality and practicality.

Additional selection criteria are described below.

  • Security. If there are small children in the house, then it is better to use environmentally friendly and sturdy materials, such as wood.
  • Water drainage holes... They should be quite large and well shaped so that the water running off the soap can easily pass through without leaving any dents on the piece.
  • Durability. Some ceramic and glass models are quite fragile, but a metal or silicone soap dish will last for many years.
  • Resistant to moisture.

You can make a soap dish with your own hands from a heated plastic bottle or from a coconut shell, but it is better to purchase a stylish factory-made accessory made in accordance with all requirements. In this case, the bar of soap will not get wet, it will retain its properties and aesthetic appearance longer, and the bathroom will be complemented by a stylish interior element.
