Modern housewives prefer to dry the washed items on the balcony. But ordinary balconies and loggias are not large in size. There are cabinets that take up part of the free space. The solution to this issue was special devices - dryers for the balcony.

Appointment

A balcony dryer for clothes is a device that helps to hang the washed laundry in a small space as efficiently and ergonomically as possible. With its help, you can place on the balcony for drying not only small-sized items of clothing and household items (for example, kitchen towels), but also rather large items, such as blankets or duvet covers.

Different types of similar designs can be designed for different things and serve specific purposes. For example, one device is used to dry washed socks, and a completely different device is used for baby clothes. Therefore, before buying a tumble dryer for a balcony, it is important first of all to decide what tasks it will perform and what its purpose is.

Views

According to the location, all balcony tumble dryers can be divided into several groups.

Ceiling

Ceiling dryers usually have two strips that are spaced apart to the ceiling. They are mounted on dowels or nails. It is important that they are securely fixed to the ceiling surface, since the weight of wet laundry is large and it is one of the main tasks of the dryer to withstand it. There are several variations of ceiling dryers, each with its own advantages.

In the first case, we are talking about a stationary model in which strong ropes or fishing line are stretched between two rungs. This dryer is stationary. The convenience of this design lies in the fact that it is located in the space near the ceiling, that is, it does not interfere with movement on the balcony at all, even if very large things are drying on it.

The only thing that can be embarrassing in such a dryer is that in order to place linen on it, you will have to stand on a chair or a ladder, which is not always convenient and safe.

Another option for ceiling dryers that deserves attention is folding models. The lifting system of such a dryer allows the ropes to be lowered down to hang laundry on them. To do this, you do not need to stand on a chair or table; you can do this comfortably while standing on the floor.

These dryers are of two types.

    • With ropes locked together... A simpler option and, as a result, cheaper. The whole structure is lowered only together, clothes are placed on the ropes on the same level. This is a single hinged mechanism. In this variation, a maximum of 6 bars can be present, which are lowered synchronously. It is important to note that the single hanger design features an easy installation method.

However, in terms of convenience, it is not suitable for everyone, since its planks are located at the same height, which is why the drying process of laundry located closer to the wall or in the middle of the structure is difficult due to the lack of free air circulation. An important factor is the lifting of the structure itself with wet linen hung on it. Not every housewife will be able to show such physical capabilities.

    • With the ability to fix ropes at different levels... This option is more functional, as it allows you to place the linen at a comfortable height for the hostess. Also, the convenience lies in the fact that larger items can be hung at a considerable distance from the floor, and small ones, for example, baby sliders or small napkins, can be placed a little lower. The attachment process for an independent suspension dryer is much more complicated.

The beams present in the structure are fixed to two slats located on the ceiling. Each is approached by a special rope, which is responsible for the descent and ascent of the rods. So during the installation process, you will need to install another crossbar on the wall located nearby, where the rope will be fixed. These rope clips are available in durable plastic, steel or aluminum.

Both versions of folding models require special care and maintenance, since the folding mechanism may fail. To prevent this from happening as long as possible, do not jerk the structure down. It is necessary to smoothly move the "accordion" apart and just as smoothly move it towards the ceiling. It is also worthwhile to carefully study the manufacturer's instructions, which indicate the maximum load on the dryer. You cannot exceed it.

    Wall mounted

The classic version of dryers, used for a very long time. Some families still use homemade stretch dryers on their balconies. They are ropes stretched between opposite walls of the balcony. They are tied, as a rule, to nails driven into the wall, or, as a more reliable option, to a special bar.

This way of drying clothes clearly does not add aesthetics to the balcony, since hardly anyone will untie the ropes and remove nails from the wall after each wash. This structure remains intact for several years, until either the rope breaks or the nails fly out of the wall. In this case, housewives usually start thinking about more modern and ergonomic folding options for wall dryers, the abundance of which is presented in hardware stores.

Manufacturers, for their part, managed to approach the solution of the aesthetic issue and refined the presented models of dryers.Modern structures are equipped with twisting ropes that are attached to crossbeams. One of the bars is stationary and attached to the wall, while the second has a pull-out function and is attached to the opposite wall before there is a need to hang the laundry. After the clean clothes have dried, the structure is removed.

The folding model is also noteworthy. Its advantage lies in the fact that it takes up a minimum of space on the wall, and its reliability is beyond doubt. To use it, it is enough to raise the base and substitute the support.

Another option is a retractable model. It can fit into many modern styles, so even if the balcony has a designer renovation, such a dryer will not spoil it. An accordion model can be considered a type of sliding dryer. It functions in the same way, but looks a little simpler and costs a little less.

As ergonomics and convenience come to the fore these days, tumble dryers are becoming more compact. The simplest version of a wall dryer is similar to the one used by people since time immemorial, but slightly improved. One of the two strips, which are attached opposite each other, is removable, and the ropes are automatically wound inside it, like a tape of a tape measure.

Among sliding models of wall dryersintended for use on balconies and loggias, there is a common feature. They are fixed to corner or T-shaped brackets... But in size and structure, they may differ. If the hostess is used to doing the laundry several times a week, it is enough to purchase a small folding structure. When folded, the product does not take up free space, and the system of its assembly and unfolding is quite simple. It is enough just to pull on the extreme bar of the product, fix it and you can start hanging the linen.

The only drawback is the impossibility of using the assembled structure. In addition, it is always necessary to unfold the product as a whole, and not, as in other models: move one bar at a time.

When installing any variations of wall dryers it is best to attach the products to all the holes provided in the bracket, so you do not have to worry that the structure, loaded with wet linen, will fall.

It is important to note that wall-mounted models of dryers have the lowest cost.

    Floor

The presented models of clothes dryers do not require any installation work. To save space, manufacturers in most cases produce floor dryers in the form of folding structures. Floor models are made of thin metal pipes, the surface of which is coated with powder paint.

Such structures are affordable, therefore, they are available in most houses.

More expensive models are made made of stainless steel. There are also wooden structures.

Besides the usual models, there are electrically heated dryers, where heating elements are built into the pipes of the structure. During the operation of the product, the likelihood of getting a burn is excluded, since the structure heats up to a temperature that is comfortable to touch. Accordingly, a special approach is applied when drying delicate fabrics. Electric models with built-in heating may differ: in some, heating is located only on half of the product, while in others, thermal elements pass through the entire structure.

    Outdoor

In addition to hanging street dryers, stationary structures are still used in some houses. On balconies and loggias in modern buildings, it is impossible to find an outdoor clothes dryer. And in old-style houses, people still use this attribute. From the handrails of the balcony, there are special crossbeams, on which a rope is pulled, where the washed linen is subsequently hung up.

In terms of outdoor aesthetics at home the remote version of the dryer seems unacceptable, although very convenient. Manufacturers, for their part, managed to find the right approach to the street method of drying clothes and developed mobile portable dryers. Due to the variety of designs, the products are small, large, designed for 6 or even 8 ropes.

A special tensioning system correctly distributes the weight of wet laundry, so you don't have to worry about the structure breaking off.

The color of their beams is tinted to match the façade, so they are not as striking as they used to be. In order not to spoil this effect, it is recommended to stretch transparent or white ropes outdoors. Bright colors will obviously be inappropriate here, besides, a poor-quality dye (if, of course, it turns out to be such) can leave marks on wet linen.

Rope holders installed on the rungs must be firmly secured to prevent wet laundry from falling. It is very convenient when the ropes are removable and can be removed without any problems until the moment you need to hang the laundry to dry. This will save the hostess from unnecessary work - there will be no need to wipe them from dust and traces of birds.

Since the drying of clothes is carried out in the open air, where the influence of weather factors is great, it is important to pay attention to the material for making the ropes on which the washed clothes will be hung. If a natural material is chosen, for example, a cord made of cotton or other plant materials, then it is worth considering that it does not differ in special strength. Although, when used inside a balcony, this option may well be preferred.

The fact is that rain drops on a natural canvas, the effect of low or, conversely, very high temperatures negatively affect the quality of the fibers. In such conditions, the ropes quickly deteriorate and become fragile, as a result, there is a high risk that after a short period of time the linen may simply fall off the torn cord.

Synthetics are another matter... She is afraid only of severe frosts - with them, such ropes can simply burst, especially with increased load from heavy wet linen. But in the summer this option can be used quite calmly. One has only to take into account that, as mentioned above, such a cord can be dyed, therefore, first of all, it is imperative to make sure of the quality of the dye.

The most reliable rope option for portable balcony dryers is steel wire. She is not afraid of rain, snow, or temperature extremes and will last for more than one year. But this is only if it is stainless steel or has a chrome finish. If ordinary iron is used, then you should not be surprised that after a while rust spots will begin to appear on wet linen, which are very difficult to remove.

Another important point is clothespins. If things can be placed on suspended and sliding dryers inside the balcony without fear of losing them, then outside of it all the fabric must be securely fixed on dryers. For this, it is better to give preference to plastic clothespins. Despite the fact that wooden counterparts are much more reliable and more familiar, the quality of processing of the wood from which they are made leaves much to be desired, so they absorb everything that surrounds them. If you fixed a wet red item with a wooden clothespin, then you should not be surprised why red marks appeared on the white fabric that you attached with the same clothespin afterwards.

Clothespins made of plastic must be made of high quality PVC and without the use of dye, only in this case can they be considered the best option for use in open space.Drying clothes with their help can be done without fear of staining the latter.

    Manufacturers overview

It would seem that a tumble dryer is a household appliance that is present in almost every home and is a one-time purchase. But in fact, there is a serious struggle for leadership in the market of manufacturers of dryers. Wherein each company offers a potential buyer high quality and reliable drying units in different price categories.

The first in the list of famous brands is an Italian company Gimi. This company occupies a leading position in the production of floor dryers for clothes. The assortment of this manufacturer is quite wide, respectively, the price also varies widely. Gimi products are available in the Russian Federation and the CIS countries.

The Turkish company deserves special attention Dogrular... For the manufacture of products, the company uses exclusively high-quality materials. All models are easy to use. The cost of the products is very affordable, thanks to which the consumer acquires a very useful and durable drying device for a small amount.

And here is an Italian firm Meliconi is engaged in the manufacture of luxury clothes dryers. Each individual model has a special thoughtful design, unusual shapes and dimensions. The design itself uses many decorative elements, thanks to which it turns out to choose a product in accordance with the style of a balcony or loggia.

Based on this, it becomes clear that prices for Melicone products cannot boast of being democratic. Despite this, the dryers of the presented brand are actively purchased by consumers for whom beauty, strength and durability are important.

The German manufacturer is in special demand Leifheit. The products of the described brand are of high quality and reliability. The attention of consumers is attracted not only by the characteristics of drying products, but also by a surprise from the manufacturer: each set contains additional elements, for example, hangers, clothespins and holders.

Along with foreign companies, the Russian manufacturer is in great demand. LLC "Company Vog-Trade". This name has been on the market since 2008, but in such a short period of time the company has managed to win the recognition of many consumers from the CIS countries. The domestic manufacturer offers a wide range of different types of clothes dryers at the most affordable prices. Only high-quality materials are used in the production of structures, due to which all products are distinguished by a high level of strength and durability.

    How to choose?

The choice of a dryer for clothes placed on a balcony or loggia is carried out according to several criteria, including the number of rods and their length, as well as the material of construction. In principle, everything is clear with the question of the material used. The most high-quality and acceptable option for the family budget is stainless steel.

But in no case should it be confused with a chrome surface. The chrome coating flies around very quickly, and the metal underneath subsequently begins to rust.

A good option would be regular steel, the surface of which is covered with powder paint, but only if the decoration technology was not violated during the painting process. Otherwise, after several uses, rusty spots will appear on the surface of the structure.

Look pretty interesting combined designs of dryers, in which the load-bearing part of the product is made of powder-coated steel, and the lintels, on which wet linen are hung, are made of durable plastic. This type of dryer can be called universal in terms of price and quality. Moreover, modern plastic is a very durable material and can withstand the weight of wet clothes. The only drawback of plastic is short service life.

As an analogue of plastic or steel lintels, you can use a regular clothesline. It is much more convenient to hang washed linen and even hangers with wet clothes on it.

A very important characteristic of drying structures is ease of use. At this point, you can build on the size of the bed linen. The optimal length of the rod is considered to be 2 m, so that any double set can be hung on the dryer unfolded.

In the same way, you can determine the total amount of laundry that can be hung up. On the other hand, the larger the dryer, the more space it takes up on the balcony. And with compact models, you won't be able to hang a large amount of washed clothes.

    How to install?

The installation process for each type of clothes dryer has certain nuances. Before buying it, you can ask the seller whether it is possible to carry out the installation yourself, or you will have to use the services of a specialist. Although, in most cases, drying structures are installed by the hands of the owner of the house. Wherein it is important to carry out the installation in the sequence strictly specified by the manufacturer, thanks to which it will be possible to save time, effort, and most importantly, nerves.

There are usually no problems with the installation of floor and wall structures. Many questions arise when installing a ceiling dryer. In order to exclude all incomprehensible moments, we propose to consider the step-by-step process of installing the ceiling structure.

    • First you need to tuck the ropes into the rods, designed for drying laundry. Thus, two ropes will be attached to the planks, one of which is short and the other is long.
    • The next step will be to fix the roller suspension on the ceiling. If the ceiling is made of concrete, you can fix the suspension with anchors or dowels. If the ceiling has a wooden base, it is better to use elongated self-tapping screws. It is important to remember that there should be a lot of fixing elements and everyone is obliged to firmly "sit" in the place allotted to him. After all, they will need to hold the drying structure itself and wet laundry.
    • Now you can start installing the clips. You will need to install fasteners at the bottom of one of the walls. Moreover, their location is selected according to the individual requirements of the owner.
    • The next step is to install the rods. To do this, you need to pass the long rope of the plank from the outside of the far bracket, then connect both ropes to each other and pass it inside the roller mount. The end of the rope is fixed with a stopper, after which the rope is pulled up to the ceiling. A knot is tied below the stopper to prevent the rope from changing position.
    • Further, the fastening itself takes place. It is necessary to pull the prepared structure up and secure with the clamps.
    • The final stage is adjustment. A lower stopper is installed on the stretched cord. Its location depends on the height at which it is convenient to hang the laundry.
    • Examination... Hang wet laundry on the fixed structure. If the dryer holds up well, does not slide out, and the clips do not change their position, then the work has been done correctly.

    Interesting ideas

Knowing the technical characteristics of the design of balcony dryers is a huge plus for any person. Faced with a difficult choice of a particular model, you no longer have to ask the help of a sales assistant to explain the design possibilities. It remains only to decide on the appearance of the dryer.

In this case, we propose to get acquainted with the simplest variation of the ceiling drying structure. Each crossbar is located at a distance of 10 cm from each other. In this case, all the bars are set at different heights. This speaks of a convenient movable mechanism. In the far corner, there is a latch that holds the rope ends. With a slight movement of her hand, the hostess lowers the planks separately, hangs up the washed clothes, and then raises them to the required level.

It is almost impossible to find wooden models of dryers on sale; all that remains is to order them in the workshop. After spending a little time and making a little more investments, it will turn out to purchase just such a unique dryer. In the presented model, a retractable rod system is installed, while it is not necessary to push the entire structure as a whole, it is enough to push a pair of crossbars for a small amount of clothes. In general, the dimensions and dimensions of the product can be much larger, it all depends on the customer's requirements.

Next, we propose to consider a floor-standing version of the dryer, designed to be placed on the balcony. In this case, an elongated design model is presented that allows you to place the maximum amount of washed laundry. If you take a closer look, the extension elements of the rods will become visible, which indicates the possibility of reducing the length of the structure.

The advantage of the product lies in the ease of assembly. The side fenders are folded onto the surface of the drying base. Further, the structure is combined in the places of the lengthenings, after which the legs are folded.

The outdoor seating of the dryer is considered a classic, especially for the older generation. They are accustomed to drying wet clothes on the balcony when the direct rays of the sun hit the fabric. Clothes dry literally within a couple of hours. You can only use a street dryer only in the warm season. In winter, this design is ineffective.
