Shower cabins appeared on the Russian market almost 20 years ago and over the past years have managed to take root both in plumbing stores and in the apartments of our compatriots. And also over the years, many varieties of cabins and even more different models have appeared. In this article, we will look at the type of shower with a swing door. We will tell you about the pros and cons, all kinds of shapes and sizes, and also advise on how to choose the right cabin for your bathroom.

Advantages and disadvantages

Before starting a conversation about the features of cabins with swing doors, it is worth talking about the main types of all shower cabins:

  • closed - classic sealed cabins that can be installed not only in the bathroom, but also in any other room;
  • open - compact models without one or two walls and a roof, designed for placement in bathrooms with a small area;
  • combined - expensive cabins that combine the qualities of the previous options.

Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages of the design, but today we will talk about the pros and cons of such an element as swing doors used in different types of shower cabins.

Pros:

  • practicality - unlike sliding doors, guides cannot break at swing doors, and the door will not jam;
  • tightness - such a door closes tightly and without a rubber gasket that can wear out, and then water will pour out;
  • shock resistance - doors are made of durable glass that is difficult to damage;
  • ease of repair - in case of damage, the swing door is easy to replace;
  • cheapness - cabins with hinged doors have a lower price than models with sliding doors.

But there were also some drawbacks:

  • a shower cabin with a swing door can only be located in a spacious bathroom, since a certain free space is required for the door to open wide without touching anything;
  • if the hinges are made of powder metal, they will constantly break from the weight of the door itself.

As you can see, there are not so many shortcomings, and they are not so significant. If your bathroom has a sufficient area, they are easily compensated for by virtues.

Materials (edit)

Shower doors can have additional pros and cons, depending on the material used to make them. Today, 4 types of raw materials are used for these purposes.

  • Glass - the easiest option. It differs from window panes with increased thickness, not less than 5 mm. The main advantage of the material is that mold does not form on the glass.
  • Plexiglass - outwardly similar to ordinary glass, the same transparent. But it weighs much less, but at the same time it is distinguished by increased strength. However, scratches easily appear on the surface of the plexiglass, which cannot be removed.
  • Polystyrene - has a lot in common with ordinary plastic. Hence the corresponding disadvantages: the need for careful maintenance, short service life, and others. The advantages include low price, low weight and moisture resistance.
  • Triplex glass - the most expensive material, but the most durable. This is due to the design features. The material consists of two layers of tempered glass, between which there is a reinforcing film.

The ideal option has not yet been found. Even the most controversial polystyrene can be used in certain situations. And the choice, as always, is yours.

Shapes and sizes

When choosing a shower cabin, the buyer first of all pays attention to its dimensions and shape. V depending on the model, the form can be:

  • square or rectangular;
  • pentagonal or hexagonal;
  • asymmetrical;
  • semicircular.

The sizes are more varied. In this regard, buyers will find, indeed, a wide choice. The main thing is that the bathroom has a sufficient area to accommodate the desired option.

For example, square and semicircular cabins have equal dimensions: 80x80 cm, 90x90 cm, 100x100 cm. Rectangular models can be narrow, but elongated in length: 140x40 cm, 150x85 cm. For asymmetric cabins, the dimensions are more non-standard: 110x80 cm, 122x76 cm, 130x85 cm.

The options and combinations available are endless. There are even very spacious showers with dimensions of 1.5x1.5 meters.

Manufacturers

The brand plays an important role in the choice of plumbing. Many of our compatriots do not take this factor into account and are chasing cheap prices. However, this often ends up with a quick failure of the acquisition and the cost of even more funds.

If you want to be confident in the quality of the shower enclosure, pay attention to well-known manufacturers from several countries.

Germany is known for its German quality, especially in the production of various household appliances, electronics and sanitary ware:

  • Westerhof;
  • Hansgrohe;
  • Edelform.

Italy - these manufacturers are also widely known in Europe and abroad, and their products are in no way inferior in quality to German ones:

  • Albatros;
  • Jacuzzi;
  • Cerutti.

China - has many virtually unknown manufacturers that produce low quality sanitary ware at very low prices. But for a reasonable price, you can find quite acceptable cabins. The following manufacturers deserve trust:

  • Fresh;
  • Apollo;
  • Baraka.

Russia - domestic manufacturers offer Russian residents very good plumbing fixtures at quite affordable prices:

  • "Aquatica";
  • Aqualife;
  • Doctor Jet.

But this is only a small part of the companies on the market that produce high quality shower enclosures.You can easily find other models of other brands. And in order not to be mistaken when choosing, check out our tips.

How to choose?

First of all, you need to consider your financial capabilities. Materials of manufacture, set of functions and dimensions will depend on the cost of the cabin. Then you need to evaluate your free space. The operation of the shower stall should not cause any difficulties, such as a swing door that does not fully open.

If you are a little fan of various water procedures, and you only need a shower for hygiene, you should choose the simplest model so as not to overpay for unnecessary features. And if you go to the shower, like in a massage parlor, a wide range of additional functions will come in handy.

In the case of a small bathroom, it is better to choose an open corner cabin.... However, it would be unreasonable to take a model with a swing door then. Sliding doors save space. And if the bathroom is more than 8 square meters, you can afford any kind.

Always check your cab specifications before making a purchase. The water pressure is especially important. On the upper floors of buildings, starting from the 9th, it may not be sufficient.

Carefully inspect every little thing, every detail of the cab. One substandard piece of construction can destroy an entire shower. For example, electronics fail, door hinges break, or a crack appears on the pallet.

Shower enclosures with one or two doors are available to choose from. The second option is more convenient, but it requires more free space.

The appearance of the cabin should also organically fit into the overall interior of the room.

Care

Due to constant contact with water, shower cabins lose their original appearance over time. The fact is that tap water contains many substances and impurities that negatively affect the material of manufacture. To prevent this from happening you need to regularly look after the cab. It is advisable to do this after every shower. This will allow not only to maintain a presentable appearance, but also to increase the service life.

To reduce the amount of salts and minerals in the water, you can install special coarse and fine filters.

When choosing cleansers it is necessary to exclude all abrasive substances that can damage any of the materials that make up the shower stall... Nothing can get rid of the scratches that have appeared. The same goes for hard brushes.

To find the right cleaning agent for your cab, you need to find out what materials it consists of and what features they have.

If the bathroom has forced ventilation, the moisture level will be noticeably reduced, and with it, the appearance of harmful fungus. If ventilation is not available, prophylactic chemicals can be used.

It should be borne in mind that imported cabins are designed for softer water than that coming from domestic water supply systems. This means that in the harsh Russian conditions, they will need more careful care.

Choosing a shower cabin is not an easy and very responsible business. But if you take into account all our recommendations and find your model, it will serve you faithfully for many years, meeting all your needs.
