Hat with a pattern of braids

The distance between the braids (usually purl loops) can be different - in accordance with this, they are rare and frequent on the canvas. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the Aran pattern, due to its bulk, requires a higher consumption of yarn (20% more than a smooth fabric). An important point is the transition from the elastic of the hat (if, of course, there is one) to the main relief pattern. If you leave the number of loops unchanged, then the canvas will turn out to be tightened, and the hat will be tight. In general, the braid is formed by simply crossing a certain number of loops (for this purpose, an auxiliary knitting needle or an ordinary pin is used). Bundles can be of different sizes: 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, etc. A large volumetric braid (also called wide, triple or royal) consists of three bundles, each of which usually has up to 7 loops. Two of the three bundles intersect at a certain distance.

Standard double braids (from two bundles) can, in turn, be combined with each other - this is how a complex braid is obtained (moreover, the intersection in each group occurs at the same distance in opposite directions.

Crossed loops form rhombuses upon further expansion. Also, when knitting hats, the principle of bundling is used to obtain a "mesh" - in this case, one front loop intersects with one purl, forming smooth diagonal lines.

Let's name a few more popular Aran patterns: "herringbone" (an inverted garland of braids), "eights with crossed loops", diamond-shaped braids (a simple pattern for children's knitting), braids-bows (also suitable for children's things). An interesting pattern - interrupted braids, are neat fragments, similar to belt buckles, as if ribbons threaded through the canvas. In the "fantasy braids" pattern, two braids gradually merge into one, and then branch again into two.

Openwork braids are popular as a pattern for autumn hats - voluminous braids combined with small holes that are formed when using crochet loops. Openwork can be located inside the braid or along its edge, openwork curls or petals can depart from the braids - the creative imagination here is limited only by the skill of the needlewoman. An interesting pattern is an openwork garland of braids.

Hats with braids are knitted in various colors. Basically, these are plain products, the Aran pattern looks especially advantageous on a white canvas made of smooth threads (however, as well as on other light shades). Gradient products are interesting - when one shade smoothly passes into another (for example, pink through white - into blue, or violet through blue - into white). Some needlewomen knit colored braids on a contrasting fabric.

When choosing the color of a knitted hat, you should focus on your complexion and hair. Red or pink will visually add blush and refresh the skin. White color will set off dark skin and accentuate pale skin even more.

Girls with dark hair should not wear a black hat - it looks boring. Better stop on a burgundy or purple shade. Knitted hats in gray and blue tones suit red-haired young ladies.

The braid pattern is most effectively obtained from thick yarn - first of all, it is natural wool (especially high-quality merino or alpaca). If you want a more budgetary option, choose mixed options, acrylic or dense microfiber. Warm mohair hats with Aran patterns look especially cozy and home-like. Note that such a pattern is usually not knitted from thin threads (cotton, viscose), since it will not have an effective volume in this case.
