Curtains are one of the important details in the design of an apartment. They are usually washed no more than 5 times a year. At the same time, many do not follow any rules, because they simply do not know about them. The curtains that are in the kitchen are usually washed more often, as they get dirty faster. How to properly wash different types of curtains?

Fundamental rules

Before washing, you need to know from which fabric the curtains are sewn in order to choose a specific mode and type of cleaning. Following the basic rules, you will not have problems with washing. The basic rules are as follows.

  • Curtains should be washed separately from other dirty items.
  • Synthetic and natural options should be washed separately. If the curtains are all natural, then they can be washed all at once. But remember that the drum of the typewriter must be half empty. This is the only way the curtains are washed and rinsed better.
  • It is advisable to wash the curtains with gel-like products, then there will be no streaks.
  • Those made of dense material can be additionally cleaned with a damp cloth or vacuum cleaner before washing.
  • If the curtains are very dirty, then they can be additionally held in warm soapy water. Then wash in a typewriter.
  • The laundry bags should wash those curtains that have decorative elements or eyelets.
  • If you do not know the name of the curtain fabric, then wash it on the delicate cycle.
  • When buying curtains, there is a care instruction. Follow her rules and the curtains will remain of good quality for a long time.
  • Any protruding threads should be cut off before being sent to the wash. Because there are times when the thread clings to something - after that the curtain deteriorates. It is also worth remembering that you need to wash them without fastening. As this can damage the machine and damage the curtains, always remove them.
  • To keep the curtains from wrinkling as little as possible, put them in a laundry bag or something else.
  • It is best to dry all curtains naturally, and not in a special machine.

Most curtains are washed in warm water so as not to spoil their appearance. If washed at high temperatures, the curtains may discolor or shrink.

Features of washing curtains from various fabrics

Most curtains are machine washed, the main thing is to remember and follow certain rules. All curtains should be washed differently.

  • For example curtains made of organza, silk, tulle or veils are washed in warm water. The machine selects a manual or delicate wash mode. Such options do not require additional soaking, as they are easily washed off. They are washed in a special bag and without spinning. At the end of the wash, you must immediately take them out and hang them wet. Curtains made of veils and organza are smoothed out on their own, but silk and tulle need to be ironed.

They are ironed at a low temperature and only through the fabric, since they are nylon and can be melted. A small amount of detergent is consumed. The tulle should be rinsed with an extra rinse. If they are not rinsed well, they may develop yellow spots. They usually appear when the sun hits the fabric.

  • Acrylic and viscose curtains are washed at 40 degrees. It is best to use fabric softener when washing acrylics. Since when exposed to sunlight, these curtains become "hard". They are washed without spinning. You can iron them, but only through the fabric and in the direction the pile is located.
  • Linen or cotton curtains are washed at 40 degrees. If the fabric is dyed, set the highest temperature on the machine. These are the only curtains that can be washed not with gel powder, but with a regular one. Iron them when they are wet.
  • Polyester curtains are washable at 40 degrees and at the same time delicately... Only under such conditions will they not be much dented and remain in good shape. If ironing is needed, then it should be done with a cloth and in the "silk" mode on the iron.
  • Satin options are washable on hand wash... In case of severe contamination, they are additionally soaked, and then sent to the machine.
  • Velvet curtains are sewn from silk threads, so they are washed carefully... Since if certain rules are not followed, they may not be the same as they were before washing. Especially if you need to wash velvet curtains. Of course, it is better to take them to dry cleaning, but if this is not possible, then you can wash them at home. Turn them inside out before putting them in the machine.

It is worth washing only in the “delicate” mode and for a short time. Prolonged washing can cause shrinkage. Such curtains are dried only horizontally.

  • The eyelet options are still popular today as they are easy to use.... These curtains are usually sold with a special washing bag. Therefore, they are washed only in a bag. The temperature regime is set at 30 degrees and washed without using a spin.
  • Kisei curtains are thread designs. In another way, they are called rope. Now they are as popular as eyelet curtains. They can easily become tangled during washing. Therefore, before they are sent to the washing machine, they are braided or tied with a thread every 20 centimeters. Then they put it in a bag and send it to the washing machine. Washing takes place on a delicate cycle. At the end of the wash, the curtains should be hung on the cornice.
  • Tapestry curtains are heavy enough to be difficult to wash, but possible. Most often they are washed with a vacuum cleaner. You can also just walk over them with a damp cloth.
  • Blackout curtains are unusual, as they are able to block out not only light, but also provide sound insulation and keep warm. They don't get as dirty as many others. During production, blackout is treated with a special agent that is capable of repelling dust and dirt. Blackout is the best option for a nursery or bedroom. They are the most unpretentious to wash. They can be washed at high temperatures and with high spinning power.

How to choose the right mode?

In order to choose the right mode, first study the instructions that come with the curtains. And then they install it on a typewriter. When there are no instructions from the curtain, then on the typewriter they select modes such as delicate or hand wash. It happens that there are no these modes. In this case, just set the minimum temperature and do not spin. If the fabric is thick, then it can be washed at higher degrees.

Each housewife should know how to properly care for this or that curtain, which is in her apartment. After all with proper care, the curtain will not only be clean, but will also remain in the same beautiful and attractive form for a long time.

Curtains can be washed not only in a washing machine, but also by hand. The main thing is to know all the nuances and follow them.
