Recently, laminate flooring in the bedroom has been used not only for flooring, but also for wall decoration. It fits perfectly into any interior and also retains its practicality and durability.

Peculiarities

Laminate in the bedroom on the wall is considered a great solution for many reasons. This finish is practical and durable, and its use in the interior always looks stylish and appropriate. Generally, laminate is a floor covering made up of four layers. As a basis, either wood shavings or a full-fledged wood mass are used.

The material must be treated with a waterproofing agent, after which a decorative layer with a certain color or texture is formed. Direct lamination is a protective layer.

Laminate on the wall has both a number of advantages and disadvantages. If we talk about the pros, then you should start with a fairly simple installation system. Compared to paying for the same natural wood wall covering, laminate is certainly cheaper. Laminate panels in the bedroom are unlikely to ever fail, and they will only need to be replaced if the design is boring.

The coating does not allow sounds to pass through, is sold in many stylistic solutions and can even imitate stone or tiles. Moreover, do not worry about mold or mildew on the surface.

This type of coating also has certain disadvantages. If there is a sharp jump in temperature or humidity in the room, then the service life of the coating is automatically reduced. Flooding a room will completely disable it. Placing laminated panels requires preliminary preparation of the walls, the essence of which is to level them. For some, the inability to use a laminate to decorate all walls may turn out to be a disadvantage - such a coating looks harmonious only as an accent.

Suitable wear classes

For wall decoration it is allowed to use as laminate of 31 class, and that option, the thickness of which ranges from 10 to 12 millimeters. The second option is more suitable for ribbed walls, and the first is more suitable for drywall and surfaces that have been pre-treated with putty. In general, for wall decoration it is appropriate to use even the smallest class laminate, that is, 21. There is no problem with high humidity in the bedroom, no problems with mechanical damage or temperature jumps are expected, which means that even a low grade material will not deteriorate.

Variants of patterns and colors

The color palette and possible pattern should be chosen in such a way as not to darken the room and make it depressing. Dark wood is best used in spacious rooms with high ceilings in the presence of a light shade in the rest of the room design. The desire to hang heavy and dark curtains will require the use of a contrasting tone. Laminate with geometric inserts of a different color, for example, a gray square, will look great. You can mount both full-fledged wooden elements and plastic parts covering the joints.

No less interesting will be the decision to lay out herringbone laminate. Even two types of dark laminate will look good on a light background: one with a smooth surface, and the other with a textured surface, if placed opposite each other. As for furniture, dark or white furniture looks good with dark laminate. Color accents in this case should be minimal. Laminate in wenge shades is great for modern interiors, for example, minimalism or high-tech.

How to choose?

Laminate for wall decoration is selected depending on the design of the room. In any case, you should not be overly zealous with its use, but limit yourself, for example, to the wall behind the head of the bed. The selected shade must match the color of the furniture to create a coherent interior. It is better to refuse additional decor. Different bedroom styles imply different laminate flooring. Modern variations will perfectly "accept" panels painted in bright colors and additionally varnished.

Classic works best with natural wood-look laminate flooring. In the bedroom decorated in the style of provence, light shades or even white colored ones look good. For country it is customary to select an imitation of lining or wood. In any case, options with embossing and patterns will look more interesting, especially if they are combined with the selected furniture.

While in the store, you will also need carefully study the information about the wear resistance class of the material and the fastening system used, and then evaluate the appearance. As a result, the wall should not only look attractive, but also be in harmony with the chosen design of the room and be combined with other finishing materials.

If laminate flooring is already used in the bedroom, then it is important to be extremely careful with glossy materials, for example, coated with glitter or varnish. The part of the wall on which the lamination will appear should be additionally highlighted, for example, with a contrasting or saturated color.

How to fix it?

The mounting option is determined depending on the condition of the walls in the room. A perfectly flat surface is in excellent contact with the glue, but in other situations it is better to use tongues or a click system. The thickness of the material and the dimensions of the surfaces to be processed are also taken into account. Installation in all cases is easy to do with your own hands. If the room has low ceilings, then it is better to place the laminate horizontally in order to visually correct the situation. Uneven walls require a checkerboard pattern to hide the joints.

Before you start fixing the coating, you need to perform a number of preparatory work. Glue installation is impossible without filling, priming and, of course, final drying of the walls. The maximum possible bending error should not exceed a gap of 3 to 5 millimeters. If it turns out that the irregularities are large, then only the wireframe method is suitable. In this case, you first have to assemble the frame, based on the maximum protruding unevenness of the surface intended for fastening.

Next, you have to choose a direct mount, for example, cleats.

Possible problems

Laminate is a heavy material, and its fastening to fragile walls can be quite problematic. During installation, it is important to ensure that nails, screws and staples used for fasteners do not fall into the locking systems. The assumption of such a situation will contribute to the fact that the lock does not fully close, and there will be gaps between the individual panels.

Insufficient preparation of the walls often leads to further problems with installation or an ugly appearance. It is worth recalling that It is most convenient to level the walls with plaster, and then use silicone glue or liquid nails.

Sheathing with plywood panels will create the necessary effect, but it protrudes forward, and therefore, if a fragment of a small area is decorated, the covering will stick out. Installation on a special crate, which does not create excessive thickness, but provides a reliable fixation, will also work well. Problems with such material can arise if you do not follow the rules for caring for the coating. You should not only follow the work procedure, but periodically dust it with an important cloth and suitable cleaning products.

If you wish, you can additionally cover everything with varnish, but it is better to leave the coating as natural as possible.

Beautiful examples

The interior looks stunning in gray tones, in which the entire wall behind the headboard is horizontally framed with a gray laminate. The rest of the walls are painted white. All furniture in the bedroom, as well as accessories, are selected in shades of white, gray and black. Six black-and-white photographs with white mat and black frames are placed on the laminated wall as decor. The wall, covered with panels of natural dark brown color, looks expensive and elegant.

In this case, the covering occupies the entire wall, and the panels are mounted horizontally. A wooden cabinet of a similar shade is located opposite the decorated wall, and laconic furniture is selected in a similar color. No decor is used in this case, but unusual bedside tables are mounted directly on the wall.

A minimalist bedroom can be decorated with laminate in several colors. The main wall behind the bed is covered with black panels, while the rest are painted white. Furniture and textiles are selected in pastel colors, approaching white, and there are only two laconic sconces on the contrasting wall.

A small bedroom will sparkle with bright colors if you use vertical gray panels to decorate the wall at the headboard. The unusual color does not even resemble the texture of a real tree, but rather resembles a pre-storm tree or rocks. The rest of the walls are painted white, all furniture is matched in similar colors. The theme is continued by the stylish rough gray wood bedside tables, as well as a variety of textiles.

There is no decor on the main wall, but unusual stylish lamps are mounted there.
