Most bedrooms have a place for shelves, which not only fulfill a functional role, but also decorate the room and highlight the style. It is very important that these attributes are chosen correctly and placed in a suitable place. But not everyone knows how and what models should be chosen for their bedroom, what role is played by the decor and the material from which such furniture is made. All these and other nuances will be presented in detail in this article.

Varieties

The shelves in the bedroom can have a different look, and therefore there are several classifications of these products by type. They differ in the type of construction.

  • Hanging shelves are a flat structure that is placed parallel to the floor and fixed to the wall.
  • Shelves are a more simplified variation of large shelving that does not overload the bedroom interior. Several shelves in such structures are connected by means of racks.
  • Corner structures most often they look like small shelves connected to each other. They are quite compact, but there are also larger variations for larger rooms.
  • Although the shelves may be not only open, but also closed, in the bedroom, options of the first type usually appear.

The second criterion for distinguishing varieties is the material from which the structures are made.

  • Natural wood shelves. They are not cheap and do not tolerate moisture very well. Therefore, installing them in a bedroom combined with a bathroom is not always a good idea. However, such shelves look very solid and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Cheaper analogues will be options from fiberboard and chipboard - durable fabrics made on the basis of shredded wood.
  • Many people prefer lightweight plastic structuresthat do not require special care and are resistant to moisture.
  • Stone shelves look especially original. As a rule, such material is combined with an unusual shape. The stone covering can also be taken not as a material for the shelf itself, but as a decoration for the wall space near it.
  • Metal - a fairly common material for the manufacture of shelves in the bedroom. This raw material can be used in combination with wood to frame wood shelves. It also applies on its own. Metal structures are usually not very bulky; they can have simple horizontal elements, such as rectangles, or they can include complex, winding lines.
  • Shelves made of glass are a special kind of aesthetics. They absolutely do not overload the interior, give the sleeping room grace and lightness. Glass structures are rarely sporadic. They are whole sets of shelves that are hung on the wall in a certain way, creating an original composition in the interior. They can be combined with a tree, which is used as a back element. The lighting, which is sometimes equipped with glass products, gives them even more originality, and also creates a special pleasant atmosphere in the bedroom.

Drywall shelves are in high demand because they are fairly easy to install. Ready-made shelves from such raw materials have a low price.

But many people prefer to independently make drywall structures in the bedroom, easily adjusting all the parameters of the product (height, length and width), based on individual needs.

Also, the shelves are divided according to the location. They can be located in different areas of the bedroom.

  • Directly above the bed. Such structures can perform both a purely decorative function and a place for storing daily used things.
  • Constructions located at a high level play rather a decorative role.... However, they often contain things that the owners of the apartments rarely use.
  • If we are talking about places for storing books, then the level of location of such structures should be at chest level. However, this parameter varies depending on the size of the product.
  • Sometimes open shelves frame the window, which is especially important, if the bedroom is divided into a recreation area and a work area.
  • Structures built into the wall are the most ergonomic option. A rectangular recess can be made in the bedroom wall, inside which shelves are placed in several rows.

Design

Rooms for rest and sleep are most often made in the same style, and the design of the shelves must correspond to the existing concept so that there is no imbalance in the room's furnishings. Shelf structures can be designed in different ways.

  • In addition to the flat face on which the objects lie, the shelf units include three more faces, forming a quadrangular shape. It can be a square or rectangular silhouette. This look is relevant for modern interior concepts. It is noteworthy that such shelves can be located together, while smaller products intersect large ones with their edges.
  • For a more interesting design, the shelves in the bedroom are made in the form of a zigzag, since the transition from one shelf level to another is also decorated with a vertical edge.
  • The design of the shelves above the bed can sometimes include a patina, especially if they are made of wood. This semi-antique design option is relevant for a Provence or retro bedroom.
  • The accessory shelves in the form of a rectangle with all edges in the bedroom can be designed so that the front edge protrudes slightly to prevent accessories from falling off.
  • With regards to color solutions, it is worth noting that there are monochromatic options, as well as two-color combinations. The first option is typical for single items, and the second for sets of shelves.

Most of the set is usually painted in one tone, while the other is present on several small shelves as an accent or, conversely, dilutes a bright shade.

How to choose

It is worth considering carefully the process of selecting a shelf structure for a sleeping room. To do this, you need to pay attention to certain nuances.

  • Consider the size of your bedroom. Too voluminous structures can steal some of the space, which is undesirable in a small bedroom. This characteristic also determines the number of shelves.
  • Think about how much and what exactly you will store on the shelf, and, based on this, choose its design. For example, it is better to use a bookcase as a book storage, and a suspended structure is suitable for accessories and small items.
  • Cost is not the last argument when choosing. Some shelves made from natural stone or wood are quite expensive. Therefore, check the prices of the products in stores in advance and plan your budget in advance.
  • The features of the layout of the premises should be taken into account, since in some cases it is better to make shelves to order than to buy in stores. For example, to design a niche, products are made according to the parameters you need.
  • When choosing a design, pay attention to signs such as compatibility with the style of the interior.

Also decide whether the shelf will play an accent role or simply complementary.
