A wardrobe is often placed in the bedroom, which involves storing clothes, linen and other things. Sometimes the best solution is to use bedside models. They are compact, functional, and save space without compromising the interior. Consider the options for placing such furniture, its features and varieties.

Peculiarities

Usually bedrooms are not large. In such conditions, it becomes necessary to use all the available space as efficiently as possible. The area next to the bed is usually occupied by small bedside tables or is completely empty, but you can use it much more efficiently. If you include the wall above the bed in the project, the storage system will turn out to be even more spacious.

Bedside cabinets have a lot of advantages. They:

  • allow you to organize additional storage space;
  • save space;
  • may have different internal content;
  • provide quick access to content;
  • are inexpensive (in most cases);
  • they can look very stylish, and sometimes even add zest to the interior;
  • can be made on their own.

However, there are arguments against such a decision.

  • It is not difficult to mount a cabinet or shelving unit above the bed. However, it is important to consider the anticipated load. If overloaded, the structure may fall and cause injury to the sleeper.
  • If it is not securely fastened, the risk of the shelf or wall cabinet falling down also increases.
  • If you incorrectly calculate the distance from the bed to the storage system, you will hardly be able to avoid head bumps.
  • Sometimes the feeling that something is hanging over the head gives the sleeper great discomfort.Therefore, before deciding on such a transformation of space, a small experiment should be carried out. Attach a sheet of paper in place of the intended placement of the structure, placing it parallel to the sleeping place. So you will roughly understand what sensations you will have after installing furniture.

Obviously, bedside cabinets can be a practical and very convenient solution. The main thing is to pay great attention to the quality and reliability of installation, correct placement, and load control. It is also worth considering the design carefully. Only then will you get a harmoniously decorated bedroom and avoid the feeling of being cluttered.

Niches

Depressions in the walls are made at the planning stage. Usually, to implement such an idea, they construct plasterboard wall. It can be two neat niches located on the sides of the head of the bed, or a composition designed for the upper compartments. In the first case, pencil cases or small cabinets are placed in niches. In the second case, open shelves are usually built above the bed for small items. They cannot be overloaded with a large weight. Such storage systems perform mainly a decorative function., allowing you to place souvenirs on them.

Wall and floor cabinets

Sometimes pieces of furniture are simply placed next to the bed. There are different options. You can place two sets on the sides of the bed, consisting of mini-chests of drawers or pedestals and wall cabinets above them. In this case, you can put small decorative lamps on the tabletops of the lower elements, put a phone, a book or something else on them before going to bed.

You can simply put two tall wardrobes on either side of the bed. They can be supplemented with hinged compartments above the bed. The main thing is to maintain style unity. It is better if all items are from one headset.

The installation of the top pieces is fairly straightforward. Fastening is carried out by hanging on brackets, screws, hooks. The downside of such lockers is the risk of falling.

Single design

The “P” -shaped design, which includes cabinets and a mezzanine, is more reliable. It is installed around the head of the bed. In this case the use of table lamps is not always possible (it depends on the design of the structure). However, they can be replaced with wall sconces or lighting built into the mezzanine.

Corner

L-shaped models are suitable for small rooms. For example, this could be a tall wardrobe with a barbell and several compartments with shelves for light clothes.

Racks

An open storage system for books, CDs, various awards, souvenirs and other small things can also be located around the bed. These can be hinged shelves of various shapes or designs located in a niche. Also, open elements are often combined with closed cabinets to create a functional system.

Wardrobe bed

This is a whole structure that includes not only storage elements, but also a pull-out bed. This option appropriate in small apartments, studios. In this case, during the day, the sleeping place does not interfere with free movement around the room, as it is disguised in the wall.

Materials (edit)

Solid wood

The wood is environmentally friendly. In the manufacture of items from it, formaldehydes and resins are not used. It is expensive, looks solid, creates comfort. However, such furniture will be a good solution only if the cabinets are placed on the floor on the sides of the bed. Wooden suspended structures can be too heavy and pose a risk.

Chipboard

Such furniture belongs to the budget category of goods. The material is compressed sawdust. When creating furniture from it, adhesives are used that are capable of releasing phenols when heated. In general, the harm from such products is small, however if it is possible to purchase furniture from another material, it is better to do so.

MDF

This material is stronger and more durable than chipboard. Such furniture is made using a different technology. This allows you to create original and stylish products that are sold at affordable prices.

Plastic, glass, metal

Usually these materials are used as decoration. However, sometimes manufacturers offer hinged structures made entirely of durable plastic. They are lightweight, but withstand a small load.

How to choose?

When choosing furniture, you can be guided by your own taste or entrust the matter to an interior designer. In any case, for a start, measurements are made of the room, the location of the elements of the storage system is thought out. remember, that niches are made at the stage of repair. Then the style and type of elements are selected. Be sure to do a piece of paper test to see if you're ready for hanging cabinets or shelves above your bed. Consider whether you need bedside tables to set your alarm clock, a glass of water, or something else.

Please be aware that split designs that include open elements look lighter. In this case, dark shades of furniture are acceptable. To smooth out the bulkiness of a solid structure, it is better to give preference to light colors. The internal content of items (shelves, drawers, rods) depends on what you are going to store in them. Don't forget about the style of the furnishings. It should harmoniously fit into the interior.

Today, you can easily find on sale both elegant classic, and laconic minimalistic, and original options in the Art Nouveau style.

You shouldn't skimp on the quality of the products. If possible, ask for reviews of the selected manufacturer, check the reliability of all mechanisms and fasteners.

Placement options

You can arrange bedside cabinets in different ways. The most common option is symmetrical placement... In this case, closets of the same size are placed near the bed on each side. In this case, additional elements may be located above the berth. If the room is narrow and the bed is set against a short wall, then an asymmetrical composition, for example, a modular set in the shape of the letter G.

Asymmetry is also acceptable in spacious bedrooms. In this case, it can become an interesting design solution.

Mirrored furniture is another option. Identical wardrobes can be placed parallel to the bed, opposite each other. So you can organize the women's and men's sections in an original way. The only caveat - in this case, the furniture should be laconic, monochromatic, without flashy decor and mirrors on the facades.

Interesting examples

  • The laconic design and white color keep the interior light feeling.
  • The combination of a woody structure with a light gloss makes the furniture very modern. Open sections and a mirror visually facilitate the construction.
  • The asymmetrical composition with curved facades allows space to be freed up in the rest of the room, making the furnishings stylish and original.
  • Love for the classics is not a reason to abandon a practical solution. Furniture, designed in the appropriate style, looks good in the U-shaped version.
