Armani silk is a man-made fabric made from synthetic fibers such as polyester and viscose.... The fabric is characterized by a triangular structure, characterized by a special type of fiber weave. It is this structure that gives the fabric a dull, but very elegant type of shimmer. The material also has a fairly high degree of density, which makes it especially elastic, while maintaining a thin and flowing texture.

What is this fabric?

No one can name the exact dates and historical names that can be directly connected with the release of the famous Armani silk. It can only be noted that the first mention of this material appeared closer to the 19th century. This was a description of a much more practical and inexpensive analogue of the beautiful but too expensive natural silk fiber.

Mass production of products from this unique fabric was established by the 1960s, when the volume of production of polyester, of which Armani silk is mostly composed, began to grow. It was in the second half of the 20th century that synthetic materials increasingly began to replace natural canvases.

Nowhere can you find the answer to the question why Armani silk was named after the world famous designer from Italy. One of the versions says that this was a special marketing ploy to attract consumer interest.

It is worth noting that the fabric has gained its immense popularity not only because of the loud name, but also due to its pleasant texture and attractive appearance.

According to the description, "Armani" silk is a very smooth, surprisingly dense, slightly elastic, easily iridescent material in shimmer. It has a flowing texture, it will simply look amazing on any figure.The fabric practically does not wrinkle, is pleasant to the touch, can be plain or stylishly printed. The cost of the linen will cost much less than natural silk.

The material has a light airy texture. This fabric, despite its lightness and weightlessness, hardly shines through in the sun. Thanks to this, most of the fabrics dyed in rich colors can be sewn without padding. However, for fabrics of white, milky, light gray and flesh colors, lining is still desirable.

For the production of such an interesting type of textiles, polyester and spandex are actively used. In this case, the amount of polyester will significantly exceed the amount of spandex. Thus, Armani silk usually contains up to 97% polyester and 3% spandex threads. Synthetic threads are weaved on a loom using the usual satin method. This weaving allows you to make the fabric durable, while its surface is matte and slightly shiny.

Advantages and disadvantages

Despite the fact that Armani silk is purely synthetic fabric, he's just perfect for sewing light products, however, designed to be worn during the warmer seasons of the year. Due to its lightness, matter is almost not felt on the body and does not interfere with air exchange.

The positive aspects of the material are as follows:

  • beautiful appearance: the fabric has a noticeable iridescent shine;
  • the ability to pass air currents without problems (thanks to this characteristic, you can wear clothes made of such a cloth even in warm seasons, the body will still breathe well);
  • the ability not to lose heat: in a cool room, a stylish blouse made of Armani silk will not cool the body;
  • weft elasticity (for this reason, the material has transverse stretch);
  • practicality: the fabric will have a long wear life;
  • the matter drapes beautifully;
  • the fabric will be inexpensive;
  • the material will practically not shrink.

Consider the main disadvantages of the fabric:

  • the risk of allergies as a reaction to the synthetic composition of the material;
  • increased electrification (unfortunately, modern antistatic agents are not always able to cope with it);
  • reduced hygroscopicity: thin fibers together with a satin weave lead to the fact that the material quickly gets wet;
  • the risk of spoiling the product when using a high temperature washing or ironing;
  • the difficulty in sewing and processing this sliding fabric;
  • 100% synthetic.

The disadvantages of Armani silk are associated with its artificial origin, so often items of clothing made from this fabric can cause some discomfort and difficulty in wearing. Only professionals can work correctly with such a capricious fabric: the material crumbles heavily when cutting.

It is worth knowing that an ordinary sewing machine is unlikely to be able to cope with a slippery cloth that is constantly shifting to the sides. Unlike the weft threads in the seams, the warp threads in this fabric can move apart.

The canvas has many uses. The following things are sewn from it:

  • festive clothes (luxurious dresses for a gala evening and very elegant suits for men);
  • casual clothes (office suits and outfits);
  • home outfits (nightgowns, beautiful dressing gowns, pajamas);
  • seasonal shawls and elegant scarves;
  • decorative elements of textiles.

Also, the material can be used to create a lining for other things.

Experts conditionally subdivide the canvas into 2 types.

  • Plain dyed (it is also called monophonic). Due to the special demand for this material these days, in specialized stores you can find a large number of different colors and chic shades.
  • Printed... Due to its smooth surface, various designs are perfectly applied to Armani silk. There is another subspecies: the print on it is applied to the seamy side. At the same time, the delicate silky surface will pleasantly adhere to the body.

Care Tips

Since the popular Armani silk is 100% synthetic, it won't be too difficult to care for, which will ensure the duration of the use of clothing made of this material.

  • You can wash the fabric by hand and in the washing machine. For a machine wash, select the most delicate cycle.
  • To keep the fabric soft and smooth, use air conditioning.
  • It is not worth twisting or squeezing this fabric, it is better dry the product on a towel.
  • This material should be ironed at the lowest temperature, using the "Silk" mode... A steam iron can be used.
  • When drying the product, it is necessary avoid direct sunlight, also do not use heating devices.
  • It is better to store products on special hangers, so that the fabric does not wrinkle much.

Another positive characteristic of the material is that the synthetic type of fiber is not at all interested in microorganisms and insect pests, which will also make the care and storage of clothes made of Armani silk very simple.

Silk "Armani" will differ in many respects from the usual natural silk, but at the same time it has many positive aspects, which guaranteed this material such high popularity. Products made from this unique and beautiful fabric are very unpretentious in operation and look amazing in the form of women's and men's clothing.
