Friendship bracelets (weaving)

For many decades, baubles have not gone out of style. And today this jewelry does not lose its popularity. On the contrary, new trends and varieties of bracelets are emerging. Such a cute accessory is called a friendship bracelet. It is traditionally believed to be worn by the younger generation. Although you can often see it in fashionistas and fashionistas of all ages. So, gradually, this original little thing turned into a stylish and fashionable accessory.

What are friendship bracelets? What are they like? How to do it yourself? We will answer these and other questions in this article.

What is it?

Surely many at one time were fond of weaving multi-colored baubles, gave them to friends or received from friends. It is these jewelry that are friendship bracelets. This is very symbolic, since true friendship unites people forever like a knot.

It is believed that bracelets woven from threads originated in Indian culture. Allegedly, the Indians exchanged them as a sign of special feelings. This jewelry had to be worn until it wears out.

After some time, baubles became a kind of hippie symbol. This bright, original attribute perfectly expressed the image of a hippie. In addition, the bracelets contained the same meaning as that of the Indians. They were brought as a gift to close people as a sign of special love, respect or friendship. Selling baubles was not accepted.

Gradually, friendship bracelets have become part of the daily life of many young people. They are woven independently, they create interesting patterns, and are presented to girlfriends and friends. Usually bracelets are made in pairs. The exchange of such accessories symbolizes friendship, as strong as knots in a bracelet.

This accessory can be worn with any clothing. Friendship baubles with jeans or bright dresses and sundresses look especially good.

Today's baubles are slightly different from the first models. They have come a long way of improvement, so they look diverse, extraordinary and stylish. Craftsmen usually use floss threads for work. You can replace them with waxed cords or satin ribbons. Color and pattern also have a certain meaning here. One thing remains unchanged - the principle of weaving such jewelry is the macrame technique.

Models

Baubles can be created from different materials - threads, satin ribbons, beads, ropes and leather. You can also use various decorative elements - stones, beads and flowers.

Threads are considered to be the most preferred material for making bracelets. They come in cotton or wool. Floss threads are especially often used. The fact is that they are smoother, making them convenient to work with and easy to control the density of nodules.

Weaving is in the most varied imaginable. The simplest of all, and perfect for beginners, is a simple pigtail. While working, you can get acquainted with the fittings and understand the whole laborious process.

For a change, you can braid 3 different colored braids into one bracelet. This option looks more impressive.

There are two main types of weaving - straight and oblique.

Using oblique weaving, you can create patterns such as arrows or herringbones.

With the help of direct weaving, more varied and intricate patterns are formed... These can be different shapes, pictures, inscriptions or names. Friendship bracelets with the inscription best friends or friendship are especially popular.

The main detail of weaving baubles from threads is the knot. Such a bracelet must be woven with a double knot in one direction - from right to left or from left to right. Having considered and understood all the nodes, you can master any technique. Moreover, in the future it will be possible to develop your own individual drawings and patterns.

The oblique weaving technique provides for a maximum of 4 shades of threads. The number of threads is not limited, it all depends on the desired width of the product. Their acceptable length is 1 meter. This is definitely enough for any drawing and for any wrist.

Straight weave allows for a wide variety of colors. Here it is important to distinguish between the background and the drawing itself by color. The product looks interesting with contrasting colors. For a three-dimensional pattern, its thread should be longer than others.

As already mentioned, using the principles, you can get versatile and original bracelets. Here are some of them as an example:

  • Zigzag bracelet
  • Drawing "Wave"
  • Peacock or Peacock Tail Pattern
  • Fenichka "Ladder"
  • Lattice Pattern

The colors of the jewelry are of great importance. There is a statement that each color symbolizes something special. Many people use this accessory as a talisman. It can combine several shades. Their combination can be absolutely anything.

How to do it yourself?

We bring to your attention a step-by-step master class on creating a friendship bracelet with weaving in the form of hearts.

As materials, we need 2 colors of floss threads, a thread fixing device (adhesive tape or a board with a clip), as well as scissors. Let's get started:

  • It is necessary to prepare 4 threads of each color, about 70 cm long. In total, 8 threads are obtained. Before starting work, you should arrange the threads of different colors in turn. Further, leaving the tip about 10 cm, you need to tie all the threads into one knot.
  • After attaching the threads to the board, you need to divide them in half. At the end, you should get two halves, each of which has 2 threads of one shade and 2 threads of another. Then in each of them you need to arrange the threads in the same way. So, along the edges there should be threads of the same color.
  • The next step is weaving. Let's start with the left group. You need to wind the first left thread around the second thread on the left. Tightening the first thread to the end, we get a knot. It should be remembered that you always need to do two knots. Thus, we perform the same manipulation again.
  • Next, we weave the first thread around the third and fourth in a similar way.As a result, the first thread should fall into the middle.
  • Now we start working on the right side. We do all the same, only in the opposite direction - from right to left. Subject to all movements, the last right thread should fall into the middle. The first row is ready.
  • We make the second row according to the same principle. The picture shows step-by-step movements.
  • To get a heart-shaped pattern, you need to use the following scheme. Take the second thread on the left (in the photo it is blue) and weave it around the last left thread. We perform this manipulation two times. Then we do the same on the other side.
  • Then we take the second thread from the left side (red) and wrap it around the third and fourth threads, moving it to the center. In the same way, we do the same movements on the right side. Then with the second thread on the left (red) we make 2 knots around the last left one. And we do the same on the right.
  • To fill the heart with light blue, take the second strand from the left and knot around the third and fourth strands. We perform movements on the right symmetrically.
  • After that, we perform two simple rows (like the first two). Then we embody the pattern of weaving the heart. And so on until the end.
  • Having received the bracelet of the required length, you need to fasten all the threads by tying them in a knot and cut off the excess.

In this way, we got a bright, positive and unusual friendship bracelet.

To keep everything working out and not having any problems, take advantage of some professional advice:

  • Think carefully in advance of the colors of the future accessory. You need to give preference to shades that you or your friend like. You can also choose a color that carries some meaning.
  • Choose bright colors, combine them correctly.
  • Remember to do double knots. You cannot make different knots in one product.
  • Before starting work, come up with a pattern, study various schemes and drawings.
  • You can make bracelets specifically for your friends' clothes.
  • If you are worried that you might get confused about the order of shades, write it down.
  • Better to start and finish your decoration at a time. Putting it aside for later, you can forget what you did before.
  • Proceed carefully and correctly so that the threads do not get tangled together.
  • Do not make the bracelets too tight, they should rest freely on the wrist.
  • The embroidery threads are too thin so you do not need to pull on them forcibly to break them.

That's all. We hope that our recommendations and photo report will help you create bright, interesting, unusual jewelry for your friends and girlfriends.

A very useful article, because on other sites only diagrams are shown or how it should be done, but here for the first time I saw how to fasten the threads! And, by the way, quite intelligibly.

Even the stars have friendship bracelets - I didn't know ...
