Minimalism is not as simple as it seems. A uniform color, lack of decor and a minimum of furniture can give a feeling of lightness, freedom and volume, or emptiness, monotony and boredom. The bed and wardrobe in an empty bedroom is not yet a sign of style. The interior will be influenced by the design techniques that shape minimalism.

Peculiarities

The minimalism style is predominantly masculine. The emotional fullness of women makes it difficult to reduce the interior to naked simplicity, since decor and textiles give them the opportunity to express themselves and enjoy the environment. Minimalism is preferred by business and motivated people, they do not like overload in the interior, they value not only lightness, volume, simplicity, but also practicality and functionality. The spacious room, designed with straight lines and light colors, does not tolerate scattered things or "creative" clutter. The furnishings provide for a sufficient number of storage places to maintain perfect order, but at the same time the furniture itself should not overload the bedroom, it should be simple and unobtrusive.

Important! Minimalism goes well with some styles prone to simplicity - Japanese, urban, hi-tech. When creating a bedroom interior, you can give it the meaning of any of the listed areas.

A minimalist bedroom should be light, airy, with well thought out details. A small amount of decor and textiles are involved in the design. Furniture is chosen mainly built-in.The furnishings and furnishings contain only natural materials of uniform shades. The laconicism of the interior is softened by multidimensional illumination.

Minimalism is more suitable for small to medium sized rooms. Too large a bedroom with limited furnishings will lose even a hint of comfort. This direction belongs to modern interiors, it seems to many budget.

But if you consider that natural materials are involved in the decoration and furnishings - wood, glass, brick, stone, then a good repair will not be cheap.

Color palette

Color in an interior is a very powerful factor that denotes style. Classic minimalism is characterized by natural light shades. - white, gray, beige, sand, light green.

It is important that the interior is composed of two or three dominant colors, one of which is used as an accent, and if it is bright, then it is suitable only for small objects. A monochrome combination of shades can be more than three.

If we move away from the traditional options, contrasting colors, for example, terracotta and beige, are acceptable in minimalism. A variation of black and white is often used in a similar style. In quantitative terms, here you need to find a middle ground - for a restful sleep, the black color is not bad, it can narrow, dissolve the space or give depth, it all depends on the location.

To satisfy the demands of minimalism in the perception of volume and light, at least half of white should be combined with black.

Finishing options

Thanks to a large selection of finishing materials in modern renovation, you can successfully combine various textures, for example, brick and wood. As for the bedroom, even with the apparent coldness of this style, it is not recommended to use stone, plastic panels, it is better to choose warm shades of plaster, wood, brick, paper wallpaper and cork.

Ceiling

Multilevel surfaces, stucco moldings and bas-reliefs should be left to artsy historical directions. The goal of a minimalist ceiling is to create space and volume with maximum simplicity. This assumes a flat surface of light shades with spot or interior (under the canvas) lighting. You can use plaster and paint, but you need to achieve the perfect surface, since for minimalism, clear lines, flat surfaces and order are very important. The use of stretch ceilings facilitates the task.

For large and medium-sized rooms, you can choose matte ecological options for the canvas, and borders with additional lighting are also allowed. In small rooms, it is better to install glossy coatings, they will visually double the space.

Walls

When finishing the walls, one should take into account the main rules - monotony, give preference to natural material and smooth surfaces. You can also use decorative plaster, but with a weak corrugation, otherwise the walls will give a feeling of heaviness, they will hide the space. Wallpaper for the bedroom is selected "breathable", without complex patterns and bright palette. If the presence of one color seems boring, you can add a second with the right combination.

Sometimes one of the walls is made of wood, light laminate or cork. This technique is used if it is necessary to divide the room, for example, to highlight the bed area.

Floor

Preference is given to a light wooden surface or parquet board, but laminate flooring can also be used with success. The presence of carpets is not very welcome in minimalism, but designers still introduce them into interiors; in cold rooms, carpet of natural shades is used for a continuous floor covering.

Organization of lighting

Minimalism presupposes good lighting, which is usually not needed in the bedroom. As a compromise, the designers install a lot of soft-light zone luminaires. They can be used not all at once, but in fragments. In a small room, it is better to do without a central chandelier; it is enough to introduce a system of spotlights. Sometimes the lighting is brought out under the stretch fabric. This technique is often used as a night light, organizing a night sky with glowing stars on the ceiling.

In large rooms, you can use a central chandelier, but it should have a neutral color, the correct geometric shape and be as close to the ceiling as possible. The sleeping area is highlighted with lighting by installing floor lamps, sconces or guide soffits by the bed. Cabinets, wardrobes, shelves and other storage areas are decorated with lights.

The abundance of soft light, reflected in the light shades of the interior, visually expands the space of the room.

Furniture

The minimalist style determines not only the amount of furniture, but also its appearance - laconic, rustic, straightforward and understandable forms. In a small room, it is enough to install a bed, a wardrobe and several pedestals. If space permits, the furnishings can be supplemented with a Spartan-style dressing table and a full-length mirror. In large rooms, a dressing room is often built, freeing up the space of the room from the closet.

For a bedroom, the most important piece of furniture is the bed. It is located in the center of the room. They try to make the headboard and legs as invisible as possible. A podium is often used to accommodate a berth. Sometimes the technique of a floating bed is used, lighting is carried out between the floor and the bed. To simplify the interior, bedside tables of the correct shape are installed, devoid of any decor on the facades.

In small rooms, the wardrobe may have a mirrored door, with its help the space will seem more voluminous, and the piece of furniture will perform several functions at once, which is typical for minimalism. If the wardrobe is installed opposite the bed, you will have to abandon the mirrored door. This arrangement can cause the sleeper to be frightened. For the sliding surfaces of the cabinet, you can use frosted glass with the color scheme of the interior.

In this case, the mirror is installed separately, it looks good in the form of a trellis - a simple rectangle with full-length legs.

Textiles and decor elements

For minimalism, the following rule should be followed: the less decor, the better. But do not ignore it altogether, otherwise you can get a room that looks like a crypt, instead of comfort. Austere monochromatic walls are in good harmony with modern painting in simple but expensive frames. When choosing paintings, it is better to avoid floristic motives, landscapes, plot themes. Abstraction or playing with geometric shapes and color will do.

Pictures in this case can become accent spots in the interior, dilute the monotony of the situation.

For the same purpose, large and bright flowers in a vase are used, in an amount of one to three pieces. Black and white photographs in frames look good in minimalist design. A few glass or metal souvenirs on the curbstones will add a little coziness. As textiles, you can pick up natural soft monochromatic fabrics. They are used in the form of long curtains on the floor; in the same design, the bed is stylized. For window decoration, roller blinds and roman blinds or blinds are also suitable.

You should not use lambrequins, ruffles and other window decoration elements.

Successful examples

Currently, eco-minimalism is very popular, that is, the use of only natural finishes and furniture in design. To reduce the cost of projects, artificial building materials are sometimes used. The difference becomes noticeable both in cost and in appearance. Consider examples with a variety of finishes and furnishings.

  • Contrasting black and white bedroom. The technique of a deep original relief of the walls is used as a decor.
  • The design of the bedroom has the effect of a floating bed. The vases follow the shape and color of the lamps. The decor on the bedside table is simple and harmonizes well with the hue and lines of the interior.
  • The room is decorated in a gray monochrome color scheme. The bedroom has a minimum of furniture and a complete lack of decor, even a built-in wardrobe looks like a part of a wall.
  • The room is like a picture of a geometry textbook. The design uses squares, circles, ovals, rectangles and other geometric shapes of the surrounding objects.
  • The use of plastic in the decoration of the closet, window and front door made the interior a little cheaper, but the simplicity and light atmosphere, vegetation and the presence of unobtrusive decor make the room pleasant and light.
  • A dark, contrasting tone is successfully applied to the zoning of the berth. The design uses only three colors, the minimal presence of black is an accent.
  • A very spectacular ivory bedroom with a glossy floor. Simple yet stylish décor on the wall and furniture expresses the beauty of bending lines.
  • Minimalism in Japanese style.
  • The wall at the head is successfully decorated with the image of a mysterious forest. All shades of brown, from beige to chocolate, make the bedroom calm, cozy and inviting to rest.
  • Concealed lighting fixtures in the bedroom provide gentle, pleasant illumination.
  • The color of the wonderful greenery and the grass carpet make the interior of the bedroom fresh, cozy and inviting.

Minimalism is a philosophy of life, a love of order and the ability to be content with little. For people who accept such rules, a minimalist bedroom will seem as comfortable and cozy as possible.
